Kinda unexpected, I usually see a lot of TradCaths on Twitter being Tolkien fans because apparently Tolkien was a super based n redpilled TradCath or something (idk), but I guess this is just Nick giving out his obligatory contrarian takes every other week.
Maybe he got jealous at some unaffiliated guy in TradCath Twitter who was gaining more attention than he was and just so happened to be a fan of Tolkien as well, so Nick says this in a bid to somehow 'cancel' him or something because his lil army does whatever he says.

Tolkien was a deeply religious Catholic (he actually was very influential in C.S. Lewis' conversion to Christianity,) and actually attended church unlike Nick. Tolkien didn't even like speaking English at mass and instead opted to speak Latin when replying to the liturgy.

Yeah, I'd figure that Tolkein would hold a ton of appeal for someone like Fuentes, not only due to Tolkein's religious background, but also because his works had a lot of traditionalist type themes, and were written largely out of a desire to provide new mythical content based on and appealing to anglo-saxon people and sensibilities. Lord of the Rings is probably one of the most recent great works of white European culture, unapologetically so. It's probably why some "anti-racist" types try to claim that it's racist, with the orcs representing negative non-white stereotypes, etc. There's even been an inverse kinda marxist version of it written by a Soviet, with Gandalf and Aragon portrayed as evil puppet-masters.
There's also the aspect of Tolkien being one of the building blocks of the foundation of autistic nerd culture ( for better or worse). Shit, there were exhaustive encyclopedias devoted to Tolkein's Middle Earth long before the internet was around, and young autists were limited in choice for hobbyist obsessions. I gotta imagine there'd be no pool of edgy online autists in the last decade for Fuentes to draw his following from, if such a nerd culture didn't flourish and exist over all that time
