The Eternals - marvel is trying it again this time less humor and hit music and more unnecessary love triangles

Perlmutter was 100% on the money that a BW film would flop, and derail the franchise. the next two films after BW got lower boxoffices than any movie in the franchise besides hulk and the first captain america.
He was also absolutely sure that Inhumans was going to be the next big thing, and that the guy who drove Dexter into the ground and fucked up the Netflix Iron Fist series was the person to bring his vision to the masses. Perlmutter might be more based than Feige, but he was just as capable of making colossal screw-ups.

Perlmutter was also a major reason why Thor: The Dark World turned into such a complete clusterfuck behind the scenes (even if in retrospect he made the right call by shitcanning Patty Jenkins), and from what I remember he wanted to get rid of RDJ after Age of Ultron. The guy might have had good instincts when it came to promoting the franchise and even greenlighting risky projects such as Guardians of the Galaxy, but he was a fuckup in many other ways.
He's also the reason why it took years for Natasha to get a film.

Also lol it didn't flop. It had a drastic box office drop but it didn't flop.

A Black Widow movie hot on the heels of the Winter Soldier that worked in a similar frame (thriller shy shenanigans with slick action, delving into the grays of intelligence networks and various crime agencies) would have been the shit. And even if it wasn't, interest in her character was at its absolute peak then. Then the Hulk thing happened, Scarlett Johansson got tainted in the eyes of the media, her award for first female superhero movie went to Wonder Woman (and Marvel female went to Captain Marvel), and eventually her character died.

Getting a Black Widow movie now is laughable. The timing is awful, Marvel itself has moved on to focusing on inferior replacements, and going off-planet really gutted the impact of simpler characters like Hawkeye and Black Widow, especially when you've got 'replacements' like Gamora running around.

It also didn't look... great from the marketing it got.

A BW movie would have made money back then, no doubt. And giving her a plotline that eventually led her to a stone or something or other likely would have allowed the film to stay largely standalone, a plus, while connecting to the rest of the franchise without derailing the train. They just took too long and fulfilled the prophecy with terrible choices.

One thing that is strange about Rotten Tomatoes is how some critics give a film a 5/10, call it mediocre then they give it a fresh rating. This is basically what happened with Captain Marvel and now with the Eternals. This creates some "positive" reviews that you read and you are like "How is this a positive review?"

I noticed this with Ghostbusters (2016) where it got fresh ratings and such, but the reviews read like people with guns to their heads (I think it was the IGN review that really stood out to me).

This film must be really bad if the usual critics are having a hard time coming up with good things to say about it, and some of them openly saying its among the worst of the MCU, but even if this movie became the flop of the year I don't think it would destroy the MCU, as people have mentioned in the previous pages the Spiderman film will recapture the audience's interest, they would need to colossaly fuck up the Spiderman film to cause any actual damage to the brand, and even then Dr. Strange 2 would probably salvage it.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is a movie I'm looking forward to ... But it's a really safe film for Marvel to be releasing right now.

This movie is going to be ridden with fanservice and nostalgia. It should be a fun time, and it should make a lot of money. Marvel would have to mess this movie up really bad for it to lose money/make small profit, in my opinion.

I think that the Multiverse of Madness is going to be the true indicator of the MCU's future, in my opinion. The MCU is going full force with this multiverse thing, and it looks like the Doctor Strange movie is going to push that story forward ... Much moreso than the next Spidey movie will.

Also ... I'm not going to see The Eternals. I can't find it in me to remotely give a shit. lol.

A couple coworkers tried to get me to go see this with them last night. They took me to Shang Chi and I walked out and refunded my ticket because I hated it. They tried to say the eternals is gonna be better and I should tag along. I refused.

There was a great joy when the two come in and I ask them how it was and they say
"It was kinda bad. "

How did they get to see it? It's not supposed to be out yet? Early screening?

It's just going to be the same thing since forever - you get all the bad reviews now before The Mouse rolls in and starts unzipping his pants. Queue storm of positive reviews and articles on how deep, meaningful and progressive it is that [insert minority here] is in [latest Marvel movie], and then a couple of months harping on about how it broke box office records, even though the returns are now pathetic. Fold up tent, go to next MCU film, set up and repeat.

I'd like to be pleasantly surprised and see it get shitcanned, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Cant wait for the endless "Eternals might not be the next cinematic masterpiece, but it absolutely nails its LGBTQIA+ BIPOC representation, and that is truly wonderful" articles.

See the problem with LGBTQIA+ and Solve For X representation, female representation, nd POC representation is very simple and no one wants to talk about it.

Its been done. Everyone has done it, and it is everywhere now. Its not special and they aren't tokens any more. Every other movie, TV show, and piece of media is constantly talking about representation and using that as a way to sell the product. Well if everyone is doing it, then how does that make you special? How does that help you stand out? It really doesn't anymore.

Even the people that fawn over this stuff can't possibly be as excited about it as they were 5 years ago.

Even if I cared about that stuff, it'd be hard for me to shell over money to see another one when I've seen 200 other things just like it.

I think part of the reason they're pushing the diversity card so hard with this one is because they've got pretty much nothing else to sell the movie with.

Say what you will about the other MCU movies this year, at least their basic concepts are easy to sum up - Black Widow was a spy flick, Shang Chi was a martial arts flick, and No Way Home is, well, a Spider-Man flick. Even after watching all the trailers, I still don't have a damn clue what Eternals is supposed to be about other than "a bunch of good people stop a bunch of bad... things."

I've seen plenty of people that have alledgedely watched the movie echo this same feeling.

Its a bit too late to add "alien gods from space that have always been on earth this whole time" to the MCU. It feels like a complete afterthought. The fact that the movie is almost 3 hours long and has a bazillion characters also seems like a bad decision.

The thing that bugs me the most about eternals is that for some reason Gilgamesh is a character in it and instead of making him look like a hero or anything the myths would lead you to believe he's some fat blob who looks like he belongs more in a McDonald's drive through then fighting someone.
