french Gargouille: (“garg-” from the Greek “gargareôn”: throat and “-gouille” from the Latin “gula”: mouth)Gawr was inspired by gar, I believe. I do not recall anything in Latin that means big mouth close to gawr, and I can definitely cross Greek out.
Edit: Gawr could also be onomatopoeia for something like a growl. Dunno.
