It's fucked, but after it came out the jury members were tainted in the Chauvin trial, extensive background checks for them make sense and needs to happen. Chauvin actually has a big appeal question over that one activist jury member who lied to get on the jury pool and whom the other jury members said was threatening/intimidating to them. (Some have even outright implied he was going to give rioters thier home addresses if they didn't find guility.)

The jury selection is going to make or break this trial. People will lie to get on it because of publicity/book deals or for woke social justice revenge. Nevermind that's polluting the justice system to an insane degree.

I fully understand why most defenses don't go for a bench trial where the judge alone decides, but I'm really starting to think this was the one time it might have been a good idea. Especially since they have the video to back up their defense.

Major props to the defense for winning the pre-game so far though. IMO it's becoming clear the procescution is politically motivated and he wouldn't have even been charged if this hadn't become a massive political issue. So much of the arguement is feelings based with no actual basis in the law.

Wisconsinfag here. It's heavily white but it's not quite the quaint working class hamlet a lot of people seem to be portraying it as. Over the last ten years or so lots of ghetto scum and urban leftists from Milwaukee have moved there so there will be attempts at jury infiltration.

My cousin actually recently moved out of Kenosha because of drive bys and carjackings.

Now, there is a progressive argument for not calling victims of homicide “victims” at trial. I can absolutely see the argument that using the term in a case where the defendant claims self-defense lacks neutrality. It’s a choice other judges have made, though I doubt that this kind of neutrality would be given to a Black teen who gunned down people at a MAGA rally.

Moreover, Schroeder’s bias has been evident in several other pro-Rittenhouse rulings over the past year. He let Rittenhouse out on $2 million bail (which is not cheap but something Rittenhouse was able to crowd fund because enough white supremacists rallied to his cause)

This seems like a good time to mention that Rusten Sheskey, the police officer who shot Jacob Blake in the back six times, sparking the protests in Kenosha, was not charged with a crime. He was not even disciplined by the Kenosha police. In October, Merrick Garland’s Justice Department declined to press federal charges as well.
