Jack is so desperate to gobble down carbs and throw away all pretenses of dieting. He's so goddamn angy that he has to pretend he doesn't scarf down butter bread and cookies.
He would probably get this bread and then slather it in mayonnaise and bacon and dressing full of sugar, like the fatty he is ordering a diet Coke with his 12 cheeseburgers.

Great minds think alike, and so does exceptional ones.
I very much doubt Jack ever had any normal fans, but i am quite new to Jack so i dont know how the Jack "scene" was in the beginning.

Anyone who been here from the start know? Was Jack initially taken serious?
Jack was on youtube almost at the very beginning of the platform. If you wanted to stream cooking videos in 2007, your options were Cooking with Jack or nothing. He racked up tons of views and subscribers in the early days since he was the only game in town. Almost none of those early “fans” are still around since there are a million more competent options now.

a decade or so ago, jack was one of the most well known cooking channel on YT. of course it helped that there weren't a bunch of other cooking channels on the platform for him to compete with, but he was actually putting effort into his channel, interacted with his audience, networking with other youtubers at events.....you know, stuff that helps make a channel successful. so yes, for the most part he was taken seriously

that's why he has half a million subs. he got tons of subs early on when he was one of the few cooking channels on YT and then those subs either unsubbed or just stopped watching once they realized jack sucks and other (better) cooking channels came along. CWJ is the definition of a dead channel. he has a lot of subs and gets barely any views

at his absolute peak, the OC Register wrote an article on him and his channel

Of all soy faces Jack made, this by far always make me chortle because it’s literally like a last photo the fat man takes before the plane crashes.

Seriously, go through his Facebook photos and it’s horrifyingly hilarious at how much soy face he makes.

As other people have mentioned, he was BIG because he was basically the first guy to film cooking on Youtube on a semi-competent level, (by the standards of 2007 Youtube, now it looks really unprofessional and shitty.). Since he lived in California, he had more connections as well, I believe Youtube invited him to their office once or twice. Even Jack on the Go did better because he was in LA where significantly more people worldwide are interested in going to for food than Henderson Strip Mall #102.

But now that there's better players in town with better film quality from people who can actually cook, he's now in terminal decline. Big names like Babish, Sam, Chef John, etc are actual cooks/chefs of varying degrees of talent above Jack and their videos are just as accessible as his. More importantly, they don't have a repellent personality and a history of controversial statements like Jack does. At worst, I can say that I get the vibe Babish has gotten a bit full of himself with his success, but he's not ranting about genociding brown people or anything that would scare his advertisers and fans away.

it looks unprofessional and shitty because his production quality has gone literally unchanged since 2007

Only on the tech side of things since I believe he's still using the same hardware and software now. He's gotten even worse over time actually, either by removing features he used to do or by forgetting even what few things he used to do better.

Old Jack wasn't as prone to silently filming himself dumping a fuckload of seasoning. He also would use different shots more often.

He's mentioned himself getting new cameras once or twice, so shockingly enough, he has gotten newer hardware.

The old videos just look better likely due to the environment. I theorize he had a level surface across from his kitchen in the old house that made it so he didn't need to level his camera and the radioactive green paint likely made lighting properly a cinch.

It’s remarkable how bad it’s gotten and how it keeps getting worse. The classic reuploads of the pumpkin and chicken video were both made about four years ago, but the quality is immeasurably better.

His stroke completely fucking fried his brain and destroyed what little competence and attention to detail he had. The compounding health problems clearly also destroyed his happiness and will to live as well, so he’s also not even trying any more. He’s just doing it out of habit now but not enjoying it or giving a shit, and it’s visibly reflected in the quality.

He’s producing content for an audience so small that it’s hard to comprehend. Probably half of the people that watch his videos do it ironically. Maybe 10% are viewers that have stuck with him forever. The other 40% stumble across it, dislike it, and never return
