I don't think there's anything wrong with using social media for business purposes either. For one, no business can survive without a social media presence. For two, if everyone would use social media for business instead of fornication and distraction, then the world would be a better place.

Third world countries give socialistic welfare benefits as well through religious organizations, governments, charities and social castes (the family clan takes care of members). Especially in Islamic and Hindu countries. Women are looked after financially by their family clans which have on average 50 to 100 people living on the same street. Those who are estranged from their families get benefits from Mosques, Synagogues and Temples. Charity is pretty universal.
The WHO, United Nations, Red Cross, Peace Corps and nearly every missionary agency specifically targets poorer countries to pass out food, resources,etc. Not as bleak as you think.
