The Last of Us Franchise - Because it's apparently a franchise now. This thread has been double-DMCA’d by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

I do find it very amusing how TLOU2 stans still talk about how amazing of a character Abby is despite her voice actress, mocap actress and facial actress all finding her terrible.

One would expect people who defended TLOU2 would've moved on long ago, but nope, they're still talking about it, despite hardly anyone caring nowadays. What happened? isn't there any newer cinematic walking sim with woke overtones for these people to suck off?

They're currently waiting for the Factions game (which may or may not be vaporware at this point given how ND keeps stringing them along with no real meaningful updates) so they can run around killing people as Abby in a multiplayer setting.

Wonder what kind of skins they'd have for her, because you know cosmetic microtransactions would be inevitable. :cryblood:

Look how they hold on to GamerGate. These are people who define themselves by their opposition. They think of themselves as veterans in the Culture Wars, and TLOU2 as a battle - and like all of these Very Important Internet Fights, while they can die down, they're never, ever truly over. So long as they see one person deriding the game, the fight isn't done.

Plus, y'know. Dumb consoomers thought it was deep and shit because revenge bad. I feel like there's demographic of people who had their mind blown by playing a game that was making them feel bad for playing it, kind of like 'Funny Games' but for gaming. To a few people, that will have been a profound experience, strange as that seems.

the easiest would've been for taking of her his shirt off for some booba (how adult and mature!) and fade to black similar to the japanese version, it's the same retarded shit as showing excessive gore because brainlets apparently can't understand clear implications.
True, I'd forgotten the censored version existed. But I suspect the full story of the game's development would make for one hell of a documentary since as I recall, it was outright admitted at one point the player could have killed Abby at the end of the game (and while not said, obviously this was removed because why the fuck would you not kill Abby?), and they were clearly trying to make this game more of an interactive movie as opposed to an actual game.

After all, every single thing discussed about this game is its story and cutscenes. I can't recall the last time anybody actually discussed the gameplay. There's never anything like, say, the Ashtray Maze from Control, the time travel level from Titanfall 2, or anything that actually takes advantage of the medium of video games to do something fucking amazing. Instead TLOU2 is just TLOU1 with more forced instances of making you feel bad because of people reacting to you killing others...and there isn't even a stealth option. Neil wasn't kidding when he said he didn't want people to have fun while playing a VIDEO GAME.

And yet...he failed. He's being outclassed by Toby fucking Fox, the Undertale guy, because all of THOSE games are developed entirely by him and from what I've read have interesting commentary on the video game experience with regards to how players actually play. I don't know myself as I've never played those games (the music is fucking amazing though) but there are more people talking about the 'Snowgrave Route' in Deltarune Chapter 2 than anybody ever discussed the themes of TLOU2 and not being obvious shills for a relatively anti-gamer platform, or simply pretending the game is deep to look more intelligent than they really are.

At the same time the main villain of Chapter 2 pops in and out randomly just to do random things, unironically says "LMAO" as a sentence, and is essentially a 4chan memelord.

They get paid for words and it's easy to just write the same bullshit over and over when the game isn't truly that deep to begin with but was hailed as some kind of important title.

I'm still waiting for the Abby model to be extracted. I recall that the guy at Irrational Games pleaded people to stop making porn of Elizabeth because he thought of her as a daughter (and you can guess how THAT went). If Abby becomes available as a 3D model for SFM or Blender?

Oh lordy porn would be a blessing as opposed to what I can see people doing with her.

The weird thing about most game journalists these days is they actually don't like in-depth games. Gone are the days of people like those at Nintendo Power who actually LOVED video games and could analyze them on an appropriate level (I.E. the reason why everybody at NP loved Resident Evil 4 that it got a full page review of 10/10 when most games got a fraction of the page of a blurb). Now they just shit out crap online and TLOU2 is easy because of its faux-deep narrative and of course all the wokeness the game not-so-subtly promotes with Abby being not shaped like a normal woman and that little shit they parade around as Trans when really it's just a Mulan situation.

it would be so much worse. liz was already attractive (especially after that goddam dlc), but now imagine people put abby's head on an actually female body with fat tits before she gets fucked by horses and dogs.
they'd fucking lose it.

eh i think i mildly talked about gameplay a while back. not much but i might as well go into a bit more detail about it since i probably didnt elaborate on it well

gameplay does basically follow the same stuff from the first game, but expanded somewhat slightly. still the same explore, story cutscene, explore, maybe some action or puzzle solving stuff, then more cutscenes gameplay loop going on, but that kind of stuff has never really bothered me. plus, i like the calm moments or exploration stuff before some sort of action starts. gunplay feels somewhat improved from the last game. stealth has an overhaul so it isnt just hide behind conveniently placed roadblock or bookshelf, but also hide under cars or under the water, and stealthily avoid most interactions if not stealth kill everyone or go guns blazing for the times you do have combat.

level design is pretty good. i can name at least a few notable levels from the game good enough that warrant a mention: the descent section where you need to escape the infested hotel building, the downtown seattle section near the beginning of the game for being relatively open with exploration in mind, the first seraphite encounter on day 2 of ellie's chapter which was one of the first things we saw during the trailers of the game and introduces the player to the seraphites, that entire section where youre headed to the tv station and even the tv station part itself are well designed, and the marina and island section of day 3 of abby's chapter are some other honorable mentions. there's other parts i liked but those were the ones i think were better to talk about.

really, my main problems with the game is with just the story, the characters, and the crunch during development. like, technically speaking, if we're discussing gameplay, graphics, sound design, music, all the technical nitty gritty that went into the game, its very well done. but i dont support crunch culture, as i have to remind myself that some poor programmer spent many days or weeks to make sure the physics behind the giblet explosion animations were as perfect as they could be, and the artists probably had to manually make each giblet to be exploded.
for real, forcing your employees to work 12 to 16 hour shifts to get a game out by release date is shitty behavior on execs and needs to be stopped

the story of the game is weak, but you already knew that, so i wont really dwell on it. main issue i'll discuss instead is with the characters. really no character in the game is worth caring about. and thats a statement no writer wants to hear when it comes to their characters. that doesnt mean that some arent interesting. really the only mildly interesting characters of note in this entire game are ellie, abby, and lev. every other character feels underdeveloped. for example, jessie, who is in like 6 or 7 scenes the entire game, has no real character other than he fucked dina and then dies halfway through the game. dina just wants to lesbian with ellie but is pregnant and afterwards is basically removed from the story after chapter 1 thus serving no real purpose for being in the game with ellie. lest we forget most of abby's friends who all die with no characterization other than they helped murder joel. at least with yara and lev it was more like "you saved my life so i owe you a debt of helping you" so they had that going for them being in the game.

With the taping for the HBO The Last of Us adaptation in progress, it appears that Joel will have a mustache in this version:

Also, in response to the leaks of the HBO taping, they use the "If you don't like it, then don't watch it" statement, which clearly has done wonders for many shows in the past. And they must be delusional, if they have faith that Neil Druckmann will make this show a success...

Does anyone remember Metastasis, the spanish shot for shot remake of Breaking Bad? These pictures give me similar, for lack of a better term, uncanny valley vibes like that. Not saying its better to pull a Witcher where Triss looks nothing like the game, but it is less distracting then going 95% of the way and quitting.

Anyone interested in some TLOU2 action figures?

I suspect these will sell about as well as all those Star Wars Sequel Trilogy toys.

Most of us would expect Sony yo let TLoU2 finally to fade away from public consciousness , but nope, between this and the TV series, they seem almost desperate to make people like TLoU2 by force.

The action figures are made by NECA who have been doing similar things for eons at this point. They'll do like single wave of 1-3 figures for some IPs and that's it.

The TV series is based on the first game, there's been nothing further greenlit for TV except different IPs.

I'm still curious as to why they got Pedro Pascal for Joel instead of Josh Brolin when Joel was obviously based off of Brolins appearance in No Country For Old Men. I'm sure Pascal is a good actor but he doesn't look remotely rugged enough. Javier Bardem, Viggo Mortensen, or hell Matthew McConaughey would look more the part.

sunken cost is a bitch. it also makes sense when you consider that sony is a californian company now, which means they can't drop a shitheap like TLOU and ND for woke reasons alone.

probably price. the ones you mentioned are mostly heavy hitters and big screen actors.

Pascals gotta demand a high price after The Mandalorian. Sure he doesn't show his face in the show but everyone knows of him because he was in some Starshit. McConaughey I don't really see being that demanding since he hasn't really been in too many big hits recently and the budget for True Detective was about 4 million an episode where reportedly TLOU show is 10 million an episode. Granted much more of that budget might be allocated to SFX compared to TD. Viggo doesn't really seem to care much about budgets for films as long as he finds them interesting so he might have just said "Wait this is just a rip off of The Road but with zombies?".

Huh. I thought Viggo Mortesen fucked off after doing LOTR. Never heard of him doing anything big-name since.

He did a few somewhat bigger films like A History of Violence, The Road, and Eastern Promises, Hidalgo, and Green Book, but yeah none of them were particularly large productions outside of Hidalgo.

Edit just because: I definitely recommend watching A History Of Violence and Eastern Promises if you haven't; they're very good. The Road is also good but insanely depressing.

nu-wars isn't really a seal of quality, daisy ridley and the black dude whose name I already forgot aren't exactly showered with roles.
the difference in pay is where you are on the stack, screen actors sit at the top, then tv actors, then somewhere stage etc, plus the current "demand" and how willing an actor is to do a role and where, that's where the stack comes in again (tv being seen as less prestigous than screen for example, but that's slowly changing). as you said they probably could've gotten viggo mortensen but would've to pay out the ass to convince him.

Translation: A tribute to those great characters who are gone but never forgotten.

It's funny that they included the picture of Jesse, and Dina's bracelet, even though Jesse was quickly forgotten for the most part after Abby Quickscoped him, and Dina is still alive and fucked off to somewhere.
