Re: the style they're trying (badly) to emulate:

I think it's this one:

Nippon Animation had a very popular series called "World Masterpiece Theater", featuring classic stories for kids and youngsters: Little Women, Sound of Music, Heidi (the most popular), Peter Pan, etc. I don't know enough of Nippon An., but a quick search shows they don't use this style for their current projects that much, which are more diverse in form and content. There are more studios using it, I suppose, the most popular being Ghibli (the faces, at least), but more modern-looking, of course. And, for some reason, whoever teach in Calarts seem to think all anime look like this or something, because there is no way you convince me that the bean mouth isn't taken from this, albeit badly:

Thing is, this specific type of design fits stories that are kid-oriented. The characters look amiable and even innocent and childish, which is the purpose of it. And it's not just a product of the time, because around those years, we also had Cobra having sex scenes and it looked like this:

20 years later, anime has evolved and not all studies doing work for children have that chubby-cute style, but whenever it is, you can tell the audience is PG.

Now, check this aberration and tell me which style they are trying to emulate here:

...because these type of stories, that are more targeted for young teenage girl rather than little girls, are meant to look like this:

1635614961769.png
1635614995542.png

Unless, of course, the real purpose of this is to attract little kids with the purpose of grooming them. Oh, boy.

I’m fairly certain the majority of characters in this are self inserts.
Yes, and it's funny that they basically used CR as their own personal Indiegogo to get the funding for it.

Since straight=evil in these kind of shows, I'm pretty sure the main girl will eventually be lesbos with the cat girl or the bully girl, I'm fucking calling it. If it ever gets a second season, that is, and it won't lol

Also, I'm honestly surprised that there's no uwu yaoi MLM couples, considering that Raye herself is a huge fujo. There aren't even references to YOI or SK8 or whatever the fuck fujos are into these days.

Hey, what the hell, Raye?! Why is there no gay representation in your show?! You fucking homophobic nazi bigot
I'm pretty sure that they're MASSIVELY hinting at Rosemary (the main girl) and Sage (Blue haired witchy girl) eventually getting together. They keep having yuri bait scenes with them and at one point the ginger kid even explicitly asks her if she think she's in love with Rosemary and we get a very stereotypical blushy "of course I don't, that's crazy, we're just friends!!!" denial.
This is what they actually believe, because unlike the fujos of yesteryear, the fujos of today can't openly like yaoi (unless they're transmen) because that means they're fetishizing gay men which is wrong. But if the uke is secretly a troon, then that means it's okay to fetishize gay relationships.
Also, Raye is a total fujo. I remember when she made a comic talking about how she's "SUCH an uke!!!" complete with sparkles and anime eyes and blushing. It was fucking gross and fetishy.

If any brainwashed cunt tries this in my BL groups, they will get a serious talking-to.

The mention of that comic is triggering a very dormant memory in my brain and I’ll thank you not to cause me to pull it out, thank you.

By the way, @Kari Kamiya, I read all your insightful posts regarding Higurashi Gou and Sotsu, and I'd like to ask: Is this worse than those two shows?
It's honestly still way too early to tell, but I will say this: Gou's first episode was still deviously plotted out to trick viewers into thinking they're watching a reboot of the series, which I didn't like the looks of, either. The stuff that was more anime-original was boring and uninspired, and everything else didn't have the same engaging cinematography and pacing that DEEN's adaptation had (regardless of how you may feel about it in comparison to the original sound novel or even the manga adaptations). HGS's filler-esqué first episode isn't a sign of good things to come simply because it looks like amateur trash from the word "go", but there was nothing about the episode that gave me a good idea of what the show was even about.

At least with Gou's first episode, simply because it's more-or-less directly taken from the actual Higurashi script, you could tell who the characters' personalities were, and what the plot was leading up to. The only character "personality" I got from this first episode is Rosemary being a fucking dumbass bitch. I forgot to mention in the analysis that she got snooty and snippy with Thyme their first encounter. Like Thyme being irritated at nearly getting sliced up by some idiot swinging her sword around willy-nilly makes sense, but then Rosemary had the gall to bitch back at her for her attitude.

This is meant to be a callback to how the main lead may not have the best encounter/relationship with a cold, lone wolf who would go on to be a close, loyal friend, but they failed miserably at this because Rosemary never once apologized for nearly cutting her face off or even ask if she was even okay. She just immediately went "NO, YOU" and got all sassy and stayed sassy with the second encounter later on. And we're supposed to root for her as the main lead. She's supposed to be a good girl.

But I guess the only way to be "relatable" is to be a lesbian and to be a rude condescending ass to another who so much as raises their voice at you.

Gou and Sotsu were insulting to me as a Higurashi fan, but High Guardian Spice is offensively bad as an animation fan and aspiring writer/content creator, and that was just from the first episode alone. Even taking into account the stuff people have showcased from across the series, if that first episode was worse than once though, I can't even imagine what lies ahead in the deep underbelly.

Hey, what the hell, Raye?! Why is there no gay representation in your show?! You fucking homophobic nazi bigot
When she said it's a super gay show, she meant super lesbo. :story:

Only the very hardcore anime fans track down the World Masterpiece Theater anime, so unless Raye actually grew up watching Japanese adaptations of Western literature, I think she was taking more inspiration from Ghibli. This means that Heidi of the Alps is what you're looking for, which is also convenient because Isao Takahata directed it.

But again, it's an adaptation of a Western novel. I honestly have a hard time believing Raye actually grew up with these as a first-generation Cuban-American and still came out a flaming SJW.

Unless, of course, the real purpose of this is to attract little kids with the purpose of grooming them. Oh, boy.
If this is true, the Crunchyroll "mature content" warning is even more hilarious, and super damning at the same time. What a complete disaster.

I got the impression that they'll try to pair the witch girl with the ginger troon, so besides being trans, he can also be a lesbian (because remember: feminine straight men don't exist, they're all actually transbians!1!!), so their show can be even more ~brave and stunning~. And yeah, I think all these Rosemary/Sage moments are just yuri bait for the shippers. This is a show made by shippers, for shippers, after all.

So with the help a 6-pack of hard seltzer I watched the whole 12 episodes and IMO it's like a 4 or 5 out of ten. it's better than I expected but it's got nothing impressive or even interesting. here are some of my thoughts:

-First off, yeah all the queer shit is noticeable right at the start. There's so many ho-yay moments in this show about little girls going to school that you might think Dobson was on the writing team.

-High Guardian Spice is very much a generic kid's show sprinkled with 6 hard swears, 2 alcohol jokes, and like, 3 minor sexual references, 5 if you count the tranny scenes. The most "adult" thing in this show is the moderate amount of blood and gore that happens surprisingly often.

-First half is boring slice-of-life and the second half is only marginally better where the plot finally gets going. I'm confident you can skip the first 6 episodes and not be confused at all.

-Like everyone else is saying the animation is mediocre to amateurish. At best the animation functions as intended but you can tell it gets pretty sloppy sometimes. What few action scenes we get are generically floaty and cheaply done.

-Most of the main cast are cutesy one-note archetypes that serve the cutesy one-note feel of the setting and story. Their motivations are simple and the character dynamics don't get too complex or dramatic.

Edit: The most drama you're gonna get is in the very last episode where things kick off into high gear, so at least there's that to consider.

-Something to note is that the Tranny Professor character is purely functional most of the time. The two tranny scenes that have been posted all over twitter are the only ones he gets and otherwise serves as the professor character in all the episodes.

-Amaryllis is the best character bar none, would watch a season two just for more of her antics.

Edit: I also don't wanna forget to mention Professor Redbud. She's the baddest bitch in the whole show and I love her for it.

5/10 the overall quality sits at a perfect balance where the average person will either absolutely love this show or completely despise it.

Edit: There's also in regards to the Crunchyroll drama which was basically the whole marketing for this show. If you hate this show for those reasons I can't blame you but personally I'd like to be watch and analyze shows on their own merits, however little of it there may be.

A cute and forgettable experience for me, but that might be the Moscow Mule talking.

The leftists’ complete lack of imagination (and, thus, the persistent need to make fiction match reality) is again their downfall.

You know the cool thing about fantasy fiction? It’s fucking fictional and it’s fucking fantasy, so you can use it to explore ideas that would not be feasible in a realistic setting. Like, wouldn’t it be way more interesting to explore the implications of a society where literally anyone CAN seamlessly and perfectly change their gender with no drawbacks? How would such a society differ from our own? You can do interesting things with this idea, and additionally use it to work in commentary about the real world. In fact, I really like it when sci fi tries to explore what an actual alien reproductive/sexual structure that’s completely separate from human preconceptions would look.

But no, progtards are too stupid to understand metaphors unless they are transparent stand-ins for their real-world counterparts.
When SJWs do make their own stuff, generally it turns out awful like this. Because they suck at making their own content, then that explains why they decide to ruin other people's hobbies and interests. This show, among other things, is proof of that.

What do you consider awful? I understand the frustration you feel but I honestly wouldn't call this show awful. It sucks SJWs invade hobbies and make them worse but I'm pretty sure it's not out of a direct Agenda to ruin what you like. It's mainly due to most if not all of them have this internet-induced cluster-b personality disorder and Narcissism is what causes them to appropriate popular media to make themselves popular.

Nippon Animation had a very popular series called "World Masterpiece Theater", featuring classic stories for kids and youngsters: Little Women, Sound of Music, Heidi (the most popular), Peter Pan, etc.

That looks a lot like the animated shows that would come on Nickelodeon in the late 1980s-early and mid 1990s. The show was just called "Storytime" IIRC. There would be children's stories with a fantasy, fairytale theme, with King's and knights, princesses and princes, that sort of thing.

I remember them being pretty entertaining, and the animation always looked top notch. That top picture especially reminds me of how they looked, almost exactly.

Sounds like you're talking about this, some French thing...

I'm still shocked Crunchyroll hasn't disabled/moderated the ratings/comments yet.
Speaking of Crunchyroll, I managed to gather some screenshots for what their users think of this “anime” in question:

Even the score went down too:

Not that a point of a decimal made any difference, of course :story:

I'm still going on with not watching the thing aside from highlights from other people's experience past episode 1 so I originally didn't get this but that boat scene is literally an actual callback to an embarassing thing that happened earlier during like a halloween party segment.
Basically, short purple haired kid is hitting on random girls like a dork, mistakes classmate for a girl because mermaid costume. Once again, if this were ANY OTHER FUCKING SHOW this would be a funny moment kinda situation instead of forced dramatic tension.
