RWBY - The Hindenburg on which Rooster Teeth rests its hopes, dreams and future

``RWBY isn’t as bad as Sword Art Online, Highschool DxD, the Fate franchise and most, if not all harem, paedo- and incelbait anime, which to be perfectly clear is less of a praise of RWBY, but more of an indictment of the anime industry as a whole, ``

And in Volume 9, RWBY looks to hit the biggest trend in anime (or at least was before the pandemic): isekai!

So who's everyone's favorite character and least favorite character?

My favorite is Weiss because she always felt like she had more going on with her than the other characters, at least in the four seasons I've actually watched.

My least favorite is Ozpin, I hate when a writer makes a character that's smarter than they are and Oz is fucking insufferable.

I can stand Ozpin, but Ironwood took the case for the worst written and my least favorite character. He was an interesting character when debuted but they demolished him.

I haven't watched since season 4 or something but I think Sun if my favourite, he's got a cool weapon and fun semblance.
Least favourite is probably Yang because I had to endure Barbara's voice coming out of her mouth and her semblance is basically Goku but shit or maybe Bishop from X-Men but shit.
Weird how both are based on Journey to the West's Sun Wukong in a roundabout way but one is fun and interesting and the other is derivative shit even though they have the same source but one is removed by just a single step.
Gun-Chucks are fucking sick.

So who's everyone's favorite character and least favorite character?
Favorite is Yang, and the arc she's taken V5 onwards has been fucking infuriating. I really liked where her character was at the end of V3, and it had the potential to actually be great. V4 started working on a PTSD angle and I really liked that angle. She wasn't as strong or invincible as she thought she was, and that failure was going to haunt her for the rest of her life. Then V5 hits, and she kind of shakes at her first fight but otherwise it's like she never lost her arm at all. Fucking waste.

Least favorite would probably be Oscar. He adds literally nothing to every scene except "maybe I don't want to have my body stolen, but I guess I should because this guy says I need to".

My favourite is Sun. I just prefer well meaning idiots and he's one of the only characters where I feel like they actually succeeded with what they intended with him. His arc was one of the only things that made sense in the entire book series as well.

Least favourite? Ruby. Most of the cast are bad, but they're at least consistently bad (yang's sudden change to lesbianism notwithstanding). Ruby however, actually had a decent idea behind her character. The simple girl with a dream, a sense of optimism who wears her heart on her sleeve with an antisocial side and insecurity about being seen as special was, while unoriginal, at least properly set up. The best way I can explain it is that she's basically Deku, just written by a bunch of drunk spergs. But then they just kept fucking it all up.

They make her a goofball in class, making you wonder how seriously she takes her dream which is bad as this came literally after the moment where she proved herself. Then they just make her friends with some of the cool kids (the whole dance thing was originally being organised by CFVY but when they couldn't, they asked RWBY to do it instead, why?). Then we see her becoming a schemer while the show does nothing to call out what is a negative character trait coming out, in fact it acts like she hasn't changed at all. You can't radically change a character without acknowledging them having changed.

Also the motivational speeches are fucking stupid, especially considering that it feels wrong coming from her. When Jaune was down in volume one, she didn't give some epic speech about how he needed to man up, she was awkward in answering his concerns. Now she tries to copy Naruto but without any of the substance that came with it.

Yall fucking crazy. Ironwood is easily the best character. The reason he is so good is because he is the only non-brain dead character and you still root for the fucker even though the writers do everything in their power to try and make him brain dead. Even then, he still comes off as fairly reasonable.

Its the same reason Ruby is the fucking worst. She does close to nothing and is not even the main character of the show named after her 95% of the time despite the writers best efforts to try and sell you on the character.

Meanwhile, Jaune seems to get more than the mascot over each season. Because the writers don't know how to structure the show and characters apparently.

Weiss as well, she's basically the only reason to watch the show after volume 3. I love her character type in general and she has my favorite design too.

Least favorite is harder to say but probably Adam just cause he's obnoxious and dumb.

I can stand Ozpin, but Ironwood took the case for the worst written and my least favorite character. He was an interesting character when debuted but they demolished him.
That's actually why I still like Ironwood because it's clearly the writer's being terrible that ruined him. Like Stannis.
