General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
I know for a fact Pippa reads her threads in both sites after stream, so I wanna say this.

Stop talking about your neighbors you absolute fucking rétard, might seem like nothing to you, but the small tidbits of info you leave behind can be put together to form a larger picture.
She has already accidentally shown both her full name and the tiny town she lives in on stream, so the opsec ship has kind of sailed.
Then again, she could also just be baiting people into being exceptional so that she can relieve some stress by shooting them.

There's something to be said about hololive (and nijisanji as well) about keeping a degree of uniformity across it's talents models in terms of quality which makes them a bit less agile when it comes to updating. If one girl or a couple girls suddenly had Kson tier models and rigging it would screw up that unified level of quality, as well as raise questions and disputes over who got the fancy models.
This is especially the case with Nijisanji; as opposed to Hololive commissions sometimes being great and sometimes being total garbage, they've got an in-house rigging team that constantly updates everyone's models/rigs in waves, next wave to get theirs is Ritsuki, Kanda, Fuwa and Hayase. Don't know who'd be the best 3.0 to show, but here's an example of how the most recent version looks with Tsukino Mito:

On rigging, the process is as much an artform as actually designing the character itself. From the few vids I've watched it's not straightforward like a join-the-dots exercise. Most of the big names in rigging we know already and can guess that they make BANK(if we look at public costs like Iron Vertex for eg) off commissions, getting one full time is like trying to convince an IT contractor for a niche language to give up 80% of their fees to abide by company rules and lose their autonomy.

And that's only 1 rigger. Only so much you can do with one person. Maybe they'll be able to rush out some good work for a model in a week or 2. And then? For HL there's 50+ talents and for Niji 150+. I'm actually always impressed that Niji can keep up with these waves of updates. Sure they're not the most impressive but you can always see the improvement compared to previous versions.

On that note, anyone found any good guides to rigging?

Yeah, the ones that have Home 3D already are still mostly just head-tracking, it might be the full-body tracking that's expensive.
I think what's makes it so expensive is that it's cover's own solution, and they probably use some professional grade middleware and tech which is always more expensive than consumer grade. dunno how their stuff works, but vive tracking can work in a smaller space due how the tracking works, compare to for example mocap where you need an open and prepared space for it (if you want more than just hand/finger tracking which probably still requires the same tech, which I assume is what their stuff is build on).

Regarding space, I was just wondering if the smaller average living space in Japan in general, makes VR less popular in Japan in general (rather than thinking of it as a limiting factor for any particular Hololive talent). I can't find any good statistics on VR popularity in Japan as compared to the US.
the vr hype has died down, and for most stuff you'd need a pc or playstation unless you wanna cuck to the zucc. pc isn't that common in japan and psvr is limited by whatever sony allows on their platform, which makes it the worst combination of factors to drive local development and adoption. prices have also gone up while options have gone down, back then you could get an entry level wmr headset for 250 bucks, cheapest option now is 400 for a quest one (and iirc that's just the standalone version), reverb g2 is 600 bucks, index is 1000+ (and that's if they even officially sell in japan, for example the odyssey which was long time considered the best price/feature ratio was never available in europe).
outside of that you don't really need much space, most games aren't roomscale, usually it's standing or just seating which would work even in a 1R.

but who knows, if holoalt supports vr which is apparently one of the goals going by the screenshots, the chance to meet your oshi live could have all kinds of effects. imagine this happening now:

another aspect of this that I had considered after Kson's new model debuted.

So then the solution would be to update them all right? well consider the # of talents they have, and then multiply that steep figure Kson gave by that number. And then on top of that consider the logistics of finding a hand full of riggers that can all hit that quality (since Kson's rigger alone would take years to work through the whole roster, by the time she'd finished there would be new developments in rigging and even that "kson quality" model would be out of date)
that discussion came up before, I think it was in relation to facial expressions and accessories. can't remember if it was ever mentioned by someone directly like coco, but apparently cover's policy back then was if one gets it everyone has to get it, or other way around no one gets special treatment. stuff like 3d and handtracking is probably using them as beta testers to work out the kinks, but it's still available to everyone who wants to opt in (and probably pay for it). would also make sense since once you get 3d running anything you add is much easier to distribute across all of them, and not have to rig it to a live2d in each case.

Mikochi is doing a halloween cooking stream
It looks surprisingly good, ngl
jump in the first thing I see is white stuff in a pan. I've been on 4chan long enough to know where that ends...

Why is a lot of hololive's rigging shit? I like some of their vtubers but I've seen independent sub 100 viewer vtubers with more facial expression and animation. Irys' rigging feels especially stiff
They Are corpo and whenever they want update or upgrade, they need to get signature from every middle management (emphasize on Japanese middle management nonsense). Indies on the other hand can just pay out of pocket for a quick update or quick fix.

The only silver lining is that Cover 2.0, 3.0 and home 3D models are top notch. Can’t wait to see what the gremlin Ame would do with it when she’s green light using home3D

I'd say it's probably an even simpler explanation. Since she's back in Austria (and doesn't get out much) she's still not readjusted from Japan and isn't used to the fact that outside of Japans social autism people will actually greet you or say something more than "sumimasen" to people they don't know, or shoot bewildered gazes at the gaijin. A lot of folks that spend a good amount of time in Japan have that bit of culture shock upon returning home.

in the west maybe, She's got a pretty hardcore following in JP, those song covers of hers don't outpace most of her peers in views for no reason. (I say this as someone who keeps up with the weekly rankings on hololive music)

But Null, nowadays Vtubers ARE the internationally infamous nigger-word sayers, the future is now old man

Two of my female friends and my fiance who otherwise seethe over Vtubers want to become one so they can say autistically edgy shit without consequences like Coco and Pippa.

In general I am seeing this kind of opinion a lot more. Women love to bully each other into conforming. So Vtubers are seen as a great release from that. Pippa openly saying she wants to bring back toxicity and "return to 2016 atmosphere" (the fucking zoomer) is proof.

She has already accidentally shown both her full name and the tiny town she lives in on stream, so the opsec ship has kind of sailed.
Then again, she could also just be baiting people into being exceptional so that she can relieve some stress by shooting them.
It's only a matter of time before someone on /vt/ puts her info out there. They're autistic enough to find her for sure. Not that she's making it difficult in the first place..

Jannies get no mercy or respite. Push forward. The day of the passive agressive emote has come.
passive? its pretty one and done. we know Pippa reads kiwi and 4chan because she's mentioned it. she barely browses the discord, she doesnt reference anything that goes on there besides the jannies deleting everything.

I like pippa's content as it is. pippa playing games is cool. so are the stories, rants and react vids. she should've gotten crazy news from around the world instead of florida.

cmon so much shit like this in the world.

gotta at least save up the news articles throughout the week, you adorable Screeching retard. put some effort in like the sovcit stream. make more editted content.

id be her oil baron tuesday if she put some goddamn work into the curated content streams.
