reddit General

My one biggest regret is that none of these people are as bad as they are made out to be. If they were. Reddit would fucking burn.

The truth is if even 1% of the Donald or whoever users decided to destroy reddit they effectively could. Simply by targeting niche communities with limited mod squads and spamming some fucking atrocious shit on there over and over and over again like AHS until the mods get sick of it and leave. Flood the mod queue with false reports. Spam their inbox with "you'll never be a woman". Make thousands of shitty subs with no real purpose and extremely graphic content.

Instead they sigh and move their site over. It would be pathetic if it didn't prove how bullshit reddit is to freak out over them to begin with. Maybe if they responded by acting as bad as AHS I'd see reddit's point.

The thing is that it probably requires someone to be mentally ill, a psycopath or extremely hateful to be able to "rise up" to AHS' levels. Take a look at parody/satire subs like AntiHateCommunities and AHS, which one actually seems more ridiculous? For example just this yesterday on AHS:

How do you even go there? Say that you're writing satire and think of that, I'm sure you would find that notion too unbelieveable to be used as a parody. Thing is, reddit has features to mitigate most of what you suggest, disabling DMs, ignore reports, needing an aged account to create subs, so it will take way too much time and effort to do something that might just be ignored.

people will really wax nostalgic about the original MDE sub as if it was not an edgy shithole populated by actual children begging for a crumb of attention from sam
The sub didn't start out as political. When it was created around 2013 it was just for fans of MillionDollarExtreme videos to come and talk about the comedy. People forget old MDE comedy was fairly apolitical. People quoted memes and joked around.

This is what it was like back in 2014. Repeating jokes from the videos, little threads discussing them and weirdos that were on occasion funny. It was a place on reddit that didn't feel like reddit at all. That's what made it so great. Lots of social rejects and creative types including the animator pilotredsun posted there. You could have someone posting about a game they were making, electronic music album they released or a triple irony layered essay about the dystopian future of America all posted in a day. It was great. The modding was very laxed unlike virtually all of the rest of reddit which allowed people to be creative. It remained pretty apolitical until around late 2016 early 2017.

As Sam jumped into the political twitter shitfest during the 2016 election the sub attracted people who had never heard of MDE but agreed with his politics. This was fine at first but eventually the people who came to talk about MDE comedy were outnumbered 10 to 1 by the people who wanted to post about the jews and hating black people. People came from different banned subreddits because /r/mde was a comedy sub and was a safe haven. The older userbase started to leave and it became an unfunny cesspit of recycled /pol/ garbage. You started having JEWKILLER9001 types unironically fedposting and the mods never had any real direction on what to do aside from removing fedposts. It became the edgy shithole you mention in your post. Day in day out the same threads with no real humor to them at all. Just angry political crap.

It got so bad that Sam who could give less of a fuck about Reddit and had his handlers deal with it as a more of a promotional tool for the group then anything came into the sub and made a thread about what to do.

Old users pointed out politics were ruining the place and Sam talked about a no politics rule. This went nowhere because the rule was never implemented and the new population had nowhere else to shitpost. The sub got banned in that huge "hate speech" ban sweep in the fall of 2018. In my opinion it was a mercy kill and I was actually happy when it was removed. There was zero discussion of the comedy and just /pol/ trash. In the end what made the sub so incredibly fun (the lack of modding) ended up killing it.
There was some good shit on r/mde. There was a guy that did sarcastic reviews of hentai games that was fucking hysterical. He reminded me of old Seanbaby.

In the early 2000s that guy would have been making a great salary as a featured columnist somewhere. Now he can't even post on reddit.
By far the funniest thing the sub ever did was make a thread about Charls claiming he was an autistic boy who wanted to be a famous drummer and reddit completely fell for the wholesomeness shit and it made the reddit frontpage with 17.5k upvotes.

I hate this thread for making me aware of this. Like yeah, I knew these kinds of weirdos existed, but I’d rather continue living without the immediate knowledge of them and their recreational activities being brought to the forefront of my mind.
It's one thing knowing such people exist in a general sense and another entirely to have the details of exactly what they do seared into your mind permanently because you just couldn't resist clicking that link.

How do you even go there?
Each time I start to think of humanity better, I remember that such pitholes as /AHS exist lol. One needs to do a gallery of AHS regulars, I have a feeling that it's a goldmine of degeneracy there.

I used to be a Redditor, something funby in retrospective is how much of a hivemind the whole site is, to the point that if you have a different opinion everyone will assume you are either a troll or an attention whore or both. But even worse is how they will use their made up gender as a shield to win arguements. I was arguing with some retard and he eventually replied with "I'm a non-binary gender fluid pansexual so I know what Im talking about" when I asked what the fuck did that have to do with our autistic discussion I got banned for hate speech. We where arguing about the black hole scene from interstellar

How much do you want to bet most of these people didn't watch the sport until some media outlet started acting like there was some sort of controversy over race?
My bet is they started watching it when 1. Drive to Survive was on Netflix, and 2. They found out the dominant driver in it is black and he ain't quiet about it. There's a recurring pattern of sports developing fanbases among Black Twitter(TM) when a nonwhite person starts doing well in it, and they obnoxiously stan for them at every turn.

Why do any of these people stay on Reddit?
Because Reddit is all they know. The key problem is that most people don't actively seek for alternatives or those alternatives are not actively advertised. The decent free speech spaces are very rare, like we have 4chan hell that I personally adore and what else? I was a long-time reddit user, and only a year ago I learned about KF because some kind autistic soul (bless him Allah) was kind enough to explain the term "lolcow" to me.

Why do any of these people stay on Reddit? There is no reason to host yourself on a community that hates you and owned by a company that hates what you do.

There have and are many alternatives, probably the most successful are the .win communities. Problem is a lot of these communities start and are filled right away with content average people find distasteful, such as constant far-right propaganda. Ruqus and voat being ones off the top of my head which succombed to this.

But as the tranny powermod slippery slope gets slippier and more average subreddits like askgaybros or detrans get banned, those people will want an alternative too, and we can see more alternatives like the .win sites pop up. This dilutes the pool of user hroups banned from reddit, allowing opportunity fot an alternative withnot just far right posters, but also every other group which was banned from reddit for wrongthink. And as we can see they are constantly adding to their list of what counts as wrongthink.

i appreciate the background info, i was kind of late to the game with "discovering" MDE and probably didn't even hit the sub until world peace was headed for airtime so it was likely already spiraling. i never spent much time there but it was always a shitty experience

Redditors being incredibly mad will never not bring me joy.
