Quite sure that when it states that 'sex is protected in law', they don't mean legal sex, but actual, observed sex. If all it took for women to gain voting and property rights was to lobby the government and get their legal sex changed to 'male', then they would have done it.

In terms of gender self ID law being snuck in, that is exactly how it happened in Canada. Back in 2017, Bill C-16 went virtually unknown to the Canadian public. Jordan Peterson was the only one to bring it up. He was heavily criticized for it, including from a man with a trooned out teenage son, but he was right. Nobody in Canada knew what it was, what it did, and even the so-called Conservatives hadn't a clue what was in it. But it passed.

And, in 2021, a male who got fired because he complained about pronoun usage was awarded $40,000. It was ruled that intentionally misgendering someone was a human rights violation.

They are also doing it in Spain, except the TERFs there are being more vocal. Canada didn't get an opportunity to fight back, and most supported trans rights to the tune of 80%. Only now are people learning about kids being given puberty blockers and the 'wait and see' method effectively being made illegal in several provinces (Bill 77 is one). Males in women's prisons is also entering normiespace and people are talking about it more.

A FREE conference about social exclusion, sex, and sexual health. No More Apologies is a day-long sex talk, designed to name and address the exclusion of queer trans women from broader queer women’s sexual communities. Social exclusion negatively impacts trans queer women’s sexual, emotional, and psychological health; meanwhile, by excluding trans women from our communities, cis queer women are missing out on a multitude of sexy, wonderful women to love, fuck, and connect with.

Join us for this long overdue conversation and call-to-action about how to transform our talk about trans inclusion into practice. Because trans inclusion means more than including trans men in our communities. Because trans inclusion means more than just saying “women and trans people” in our mission statements. Because welcoming trans women into our spaces is not the same as welcoming them into our beds.

Because our actions are speaking louder than our words.

ABOUT THE NO MORE APOLOGIES WORKING GROUP: The No More Apologies working group (comprised of Morgan M Page, Mara Pereira, Savannah Garmon, Rebecca Hammond, and Kate Klein) is a group of queer trans and cis women who came together as part of the Sex Talk Series to think of ways to fill the gaps in sexual health promotion for trans women who have sex with women. Drew actually doubled down and was going to make a documentary about lesbians and specifically Lily, which was adding to the pile on.

There was a break in making porn after this - possibly an early going to ground - but Drew made a "triumphant return" to "Indie Porn Revolution" in 2014.

As you can see, by 2014 Drew had pivoted to claiming the cotton ceiling was about fat people, non white people and disabled people as well as trans people - but the "get trans women laid" discourse was previously right there. In Summer 2014 Drew shot a porno entitled “Cis On My Face / Trans Girls Are Sexy” at the San Francisco Dyke March, where they fucked openly in the middle of Delores Park in broad daylight (hilariously Lana Wachowski was filming a documentary about Dykes on Bikes less than 100 yards away). There was then an art project in October 2014 entitled "My Body Is A Bomb", a collab with photographer Courtney Trouble;

Artists Statement by Drew Deveaux
My body – and all trans bodies – are too often sites of violence. Violence perpetrated against us, yes. But also – as with the ubiquitous “man in the bathroom” red herring – our trans bodies are twisted into objects of imagined violence, into gender-bending weapons of mass destruction, by those cis people bent on barring us from achieving equality.

When I proposed the notion of the cotton ceiling a few years back, the violent backlash against me was profound. Not just death threats, but, even more awful were the accusations of rape, of being “a rapist”. As a survivor of sexual assault this cut deeper than anything.

The cotton ceiling was meant as a means to question why certain bodies – trans or fat or disabled or racialized bodies for starters – are sometimes seen as undesirable, unfuckable, unlovable. It was not a violent term, but as is almost always the case, cis activists violently attacked the struggle for trans equality through making our bodies and identities intrinsically violent.

Thus, here you have “My Body is a Bomb“. A symbolic representation of the violence too often laid on Trans bodies, of the weaponization of gender equality.

So again, a real push to change the narrative from "I want to get trans women laid" to "I'm actually a victim here". The trail goes cold after about 2016 - it's either old shoots getting published or just people talking about the cotton ceiling. There's possibly one last scene with "TROUBLEfilms" in 2018 with Jizz Lee, but that might be an old scene.

Drew has been pretty thoroughly scrubbed off the internet since, this stuff was hard to find and literally required going through transbian porn sites (where the name appears to have been edited down to just "Drew" to obfuscate) and old personal blogs. The BBC journalist couldn't track Drew down for comment, so I think this is a genuine case of DFE. I suspect people in the activisty queer scene in either San Francisco or Toronto would know more, so if there's any Kiwis meeting that description then feel free to contribute.
