Diseased Open Source Software Community - it's about ethics in Code of Conducts

They deleted this guy's account for posting that.
They can't delete the idea,or the spread of it on unpozzed forums and email and the like, and they can't change the minds of most non-Westerners and more than a few of us about what the Chinese refer to as 白左 or baizuo, for "white left." And all of those drive them crazy.

And they can't delete "+NIGGER" without violating the license, and enforcement could be a barrel of laughs perhaps suitable for our Lolcow & Lolcow LLP subforum.

The idea is pure genius, something to keep in mind if there's ever a general hard fork in the FOSS community forced by the 白左.

What forum was this guy deleted from?

Good idea: Apparently Trump or a group bearing his name launched a new "social network" on the Fediverse.

Bad idea: The software they're using is a fork of Mastodon, Rails' last gasp at relevancy on the back end and awkward "web app" slop on the front end.

Worse idea: They're not complying with the terms of Mastodon's copyleft license which require them to make alterations to the code available to everyone. Software Freedom Conservancy, a group known for threatening or taking legal action against violators of FOSS licenses, is threatening to sue.

IMO there is no way they will allow him to play nice with a copyleft license. It doesn't matter if they rectify the problem, groups like this will find a new rule to make up and then lawfare it out of existence (and may attract Democrat funding for it).

I wish someone would pitch Trump on becoming a free speech domain registrar instead, that would be a bigger check (and obviously one with alot of money behind it) on internet censorship, if done right.

I think a Trump-branded Fediverse node is a great idea. Orange Man gets to "tweet" again and the influx of Trump fans will bring more attention to the Fediverse and hopefully other forms of censorship-resistant Internet services. Even if you don't like Trump or don't use this service, I think it's great for the Internet as a whole.

A free speech-oriented registrar would be great, but it wouldn't be of as much benefit to normies, and that Stormfront, KF, and other Internet pariahs (including Trump himself) still have working domain names shows DNS censorship or lack of access is not quite as pressing of an issue.

That may be so, but I think what we're about to see is just how fraudulent alot of the 'free speech' believers from the early 00s really are when push comes to shove (ie someone they want to be deplatformed using FOSS). If you can't defend the civil liberties of people you dislike, the whole concept is pretty worthless. Stallman appears like a dinosaur to the younger crowd, I give him alot of credit for standing up to 'do no evil' licenses.

Don't worry, Laurelai will decide what's good for us

The thing is, even if he were to make a webhost or other necessary internet service that could help sites like that, Trump doesn't believe in the kind of civil rights and freedoms that most right-wingers think of when they talk about those things. Just from his public stances we can see that he supports gun confiscation and red flag laws, and that he was very willing to kiss the ring of the ADL and the Jewish lobby even though they spent billions propagandizing people against him.

Trump would literally never host a website like Stormfront, or TRS, or even the Kiwi Farms. He's not a trustworthy advocate for the kind of freedom people on the internet are used to.

And there's no reason to assume Trump specifically supports free speech online either. He signed an executive order telling the FCC to remove Section 230 protections from websites and the FTC to investigate them for "deceptive" practices for publishing content he didn't like. He's currently still suing Facebook, Twitter and Google in an attempt to rule 230 unconstitutional and restrict their First Amendment protected rights.

That's not counting the probably hundreds of times he's threatened to or actually sued people for publishing things about him offline.

Can't wait for the MSM talking heads to try explaining the Affero GPL to their boomer viewership.

tbh I see that more as his usual businessman flak approach. start somewhere outlandish and guns blazing, then meet in the middle which was your intentional point anyway. but who knows really.

Well, they sure did show him that he's wrong.

Gab is a Mastodon fork and no one ever tried to sue them over it – they just publish their code: https://code.gab.com/gab/gab-open-source Doing it as a zip file is a bit odd but not against the license. it's really not that hard of a thing to do.

Of course there's been other drama from the Mastodon people surrounding Gab, but you know, that's part of freedom and free speech too.

Didn't see anyone else bring this up in the Linux thread (maybe they did and I'm too stupid) so here we go
Arch Linux has been behind on several package updates which is out of charcter for the maintainers of the distro.
People make threads on 4chan [Archive] (there were some before it but they're pretty similar anyway), Reddit [Archive], and some posts on the mailing lists [1] [2].

The second email thread is especially interesting because it goes from pointing out the issue to "This is 4chan FUD and you're being transphobic" [1] [2] at a neck-braking pace because someone called out the r/archlinux mod for deleting threads about this ongoing issue and making the subreddit political (Gay Pride Arch Logo) which then derails [Archive] the entire email thread from the original issue entirely.
Developers and maintainers aren't talking to each other [Archive] and there's overall a lack of communication and nobody is owning up to it, instead just passing the issue onto users and somehow dragging troon shenanigans into it because of course it's fucking Linux.

There's more in the first email thread as well but it's pretty much the usual "fix it yourself or become maintainer" nerd talk (despite it being kind of tedious for the average user to become a maintainer but that's another topic entirely) and isn't really as funny.

Not as interesting as Pale Moon drama and whatever the fuck is going on FOSS wise but you gotta take what milk you can get.
also lul forgot to archive xoxo we're being silly tonight boyz

Holy fuck even Arch is pozzed now. I thought there was enough autism in it to keep it safe.

Trannies infect EVERYTHING.

They prey on the autistic to reproduce. Being autistic makes them more likely to enter a community through conversion.

The only communities that don't get infested are hyper-masculine and hyper-feminine ones or communities with a high social and face-to-face quality that disqualifies weirdos. You're not gonna find troon gym bros banging weights on the floor at your local Gold's, or troon "moms" running troon baby meetups at the playground. Same with golf or fishing or any other traditionally normie activity (I guess fishing is a little autistic, sometimes, but not as much as coding).

Damn, that sucks. Too bad there aren't any alternative POSIX operating systems out there concerned users could switch to, much less other Linux distros.

Snark aside, is there something particularly interesting about Arch that makes it worth fighting for?
