Maybe tweet embedding should be disabled?

It's best to screencap or use archive.is links along with the embedded tweets in case they're gone.

Or we should have a robot that automatically posts archive.is links whenever an embedded tweet is posted

I live in a faceist analchest country where twitter is blocked and I can't see tweets when my VPN is down so yeah plz cap them
Can you view this? https://archive.is/woV1C

Do you all prefer screenshots or archive.is?

Archive.is might be the more secure option because we've lost images as the result of a crash before and the owner of archive.is seems adamant his website is never going down. http://archive.is/faq.html

You can upload images via Imgur which I did often instead of using attachments. Although archive.is does have screencap support, the screencap is usually incomplete and even if it does it usually needs cropping.

Still, archive.is can be the better option though.

I'm not a big fan of screencapping tweets as a full replacement for embedding. Having the metadata and links right there in the thread is pretty convenient.

Instead, it'd be nice if we could automate screencapping tweets in the background, so the metadata and links are still there, but if the tweets get taken down, we still have a record.

I wrote a little script that screencaps tweets as a proof of concept.

The issue with the twitter embeds is the client load time. Adding more client load does not fix that issue.
