Personally, I think we (as a society) are going to take a while to figure out how we're coping with this addition to our worldview: there's a new respiratory illness that'll never go away and sometimes people in their 30s just up and get crippled from it, lol. That used to happen; now it's happening again. If we take your tack, maybe the ~national dialogue~ needs to be about hubris and about how personal responsibility includes an advance directive and a discussion with the spouse about financial health.

I've been interested in this too. It's looking like yearly COVID-19 boosters are going to be a necessary thing going forward. Hell, maybe even semiannual boosters. Flu vaccine uptake is already really low (although healthy people who don't live with or work with the elderly or immunocompromised don't really need to get it) so...what's going to happen here?
