Let's pretend for one moment that he does die before the election, just for the funsies. What happens then? Will the nomination revert to option number 2, aka Bernie Sanders? Or will his running mate automatically replace him just the way Vice-President is supposted to step in after the Big Man in the White House chokes on a piece of matzo? Does he even have a running mate yet?

Michelle Obama and Oprah. Kind of shitposting but I also genuinely have no clue who else could step up given that the Democrats took a long, hard look at their stable in 2020 and decided Kamala and Joe were the only viable choices.
I recall Michelle saying she has no interest in running for any elected office. Also I think the Democrats want nothing to do with the Obamas beyond having them show up at rallies. Obama was one of the worst party leaders in their history despite his popularity, he bankrupted the party and left a lot of their infrastructure in ruins.

People talk about Oprah running but forget that she has no experience being placed under any kind of scrutiny. Her show was set up to venerate her as a saint and she was never questioned. She'd crumble fast if she had to face opposition, especially when the photos of her palling around with Harvey Weinstein come out.

What they need is a new Obama, a fresh-faced character with a thin resume who they can build up as a messiah figure, but is anyone like that waiting in the wings? A lot of today's rising Democrats are hardcore progressives whose love for child drag queens will alienate 95% of the country. They don't make them like Obama anymore.

Obama didn't even start out very radical in his first term

The bigger issue with a new face is that they will inevitably be compared to Obama... and found wanting. Both against the ideal that Obama represented, and the reality of the man when people think of it. They cannot possibly reach the heights of the former, and the depths of the latter will drag them down.

Correct me if I'm wrong, because I really might be, but wasn't one of Biden's big bragging points heading into the election that he was mostly supported by "the little guy" and how he had so many small donors backing him?

I'm going to put my... reputation (ha) where my mouth is and say that they're working on grooming Representative Ocasio-Cortez to be that. There's a pretty appealing story there with her rising to prominence after a miraculous win at the age of 28, and if they're able to marry that and her progressive image with the moderate temperament that Speaker Pelosi et al. are clearly trying to pound into her... Well, there you go!

With the Virginia debacle beginning to fade out of the public's minds, now that the fight is over, the infrastructure bill and BBB are coming back to the attention of the Dems. Pelosi has been privately trying today without any success to get new votes for BBB, hoping to make a vote happen as early as tonight. Surprise surprise though, nobody wanted to play ball so when she talked to the press afterwards she didn't say when they would vote on it.

Earlier this week, 5 Democrat Congressmen - this includes Rep. Josh Gottheimer, whose district includes northern New Jersey, so I imagine he's feeling pressure - signed a letter begging Pelosi to give them 72 hours to review BBB personally and then enough time for a full analysis of the bill's contents to ensure everything was paid for. I imagine this is a non-starter.

So, same old same old. That legislative agenda is still going nowhere.

But the difference is, that group among the Republicans is actually kinda small, they're loud and visible, and you can easily avoid any troubles with them simply by not engaging them in any way.
this
I know Florida is quasi-The South, but growing up you'd still get the guys who wear rebel flags just because "lol rebel flag shit" and then the ones who wear them because "let's kill joggers".
The latter were rare but clear and great examples of why that's probably not so great a way to live, so you can easily choose to just be cool with people.
Yankees / libs do that soft racism shit where black people clearly need so much help because without helpful white people helping them they'd never get anywhere, and it seems a lot more endemic.

That is not same-old, same-old. Gotheimer wasn't opposed to it before. You detail -new- and additional opposition to the bill.

Was small business other for Biden? I mean his supporters destroyed small business last summer by burning them down. As well I always saw big business endorsing him.

I wonder if (when?) the Biden spending bills are dead we're going to see a much bigger push on local races/victories. Right now, we're seeing a shift away from talking about BBB (aside from mentioning positive-sounding additions (and desperately skirting around how close it is to passing)) to smaller-scale victories. Maybe we'll see a complete concession of things on a national scale in favor of trying to retake state/local governments?

...good lord that wouldn't go well

I agree with Gehenna. Your clearly seeing more democrats afraid of voting on it now after Tuesday night.

Ah, I kinda glossed over Gottheimer's name. Reps kinda tend to blur together for me especially when there's a whole continent of them fighting Nancy.

If you're curious, that list also includes Stephanie Murphy (Florida) and Jared Golden (Maine). I'll edit this post when I figure out who the remaining two are. Kurt Schrader (Oregon) and Ed Case (Hawaii).

I'm seeing a lot of mainline Democrat names. Not progs. That is a really bad sign for Pelosi if the rank-and-file are now breaking free as well.
