Nice post OP, it was well written and informative, I've been learning a lot of stuff from this thread.

I remember my coworker bought a flat faced kitten, poor thing looked miserable. It wasn't long until it got a bad eye problem (don't remember what it was) and it wasn't the first time a cat of hers had it. She loved that specific breed even though they always died young and had lots of issues.

That just reminds me of these things:

I forget the names of these particular Hapsburg style dogs, but I don't like it.

Bit late, but I believe that's actually Wendy the Whippet; the "double muscling" is a gene mutation in the MSTN gene, which codes for myostatin, a protein with inhibitory effects on muscle growth. It's rare, but found more commonly in cattle than dogs- see earlier in the thread with Belgian Blues. Bully whippets are the name for the affected whippets, but from what I can tell from a brief scan there's not any desire to make a market for puppies on account it's seen as a genetic disorder than a new breed trait.

I used to get Brian Barcyzck's videos recommended to me by the Youtube algorithm. He seemed so fake with that shit eating grin of his I could never take the videos seriously. Anyone have any good details on the drama surrounding him?

Speaking as an owner, the reptile trade sickens me. Just look at a local shelter and you will see a variety of snakes and lizards that could use a good home. Don't go and spend hundreds on an animal then abandon it!
Here's a video from a couple years ago on the drama surrounding him.

So, the people who spend that much money on an abomination that can't even procreate naturally, they take these dogs to the vet and get them their shots and stuff, right? They pay for the emergency vet fee when one of their
"HEXKIN HOE BAPE x HAZE 💵 🐾🥰, BEST TOAD🐃 EVERRRR!!! CHONKY, HONKY, AND CAN'T STAND UNDER HER OWN WEIGHT,⚠️🤮"
has an issue, right?
I can tell you from experience they either DIY or throw a fucking fit when they get an estimate.

It's worth noting that no vet will accept home vaccines as valid. There's no evidence it was actually done. When your dog gets a vaccine the bottle the vaccine is in has a little sticker with the lot number and expiration date. That sticker is placed in your pet's medical chart. God forbid if your dog bites someone, we can flip back to the medical chart which has proof of a rabies vaccine. If you don't have that proof the animal is quarantined. If it's symptomatic it gets put down and its brain tested. Your pet bites someone before it was put down and no proof of rabies? Head removed and sent for testing. No exceptions.

All these shithead breeders DIY vaccines and you have no idea if it was done properly or at all. Drives me up a goddamn wall when I have to explain why Lucky the $6,000 whateverdoodle has parvo despite the breeder "vaccinating for it."

Yup some have the brain cells to go to a real vet but many will DIY shots in-house, I didn't even know one could buy these meds without a license or practice.

On another note I've come across the worst english bulldog on the fucking planet, the germans call this shit torture breeding for a reason.

It's not just with domestic animals, sports ranchers have started doing this with White-Tail deer. It's one thing to breed bucks with longish but 'natural' looking tines, but another when you breed a line of 'monster' white-tail deer that has massive 20+ tines on each antler that just look like freaks. You often find these on trophy ranches that breed them for people to pay and 'hunt' them (I'm an aspiring hunter, but I like my 'freaks' to be natural as opposed to man-made.) It was something I discovered when I was looking up information on white-tails, and seeing them being bred like that just looks a bit... Grotesque.
Luckily the financial aspects really limit people even trying this. Acquiring studs is difficult/expensive. They need specialized car and diets, along with a drug bill that would be too steep for most of your "standard" rich equestrian people. The place I toured is owned by a billionaire that travels there in his private helicopter. All of his farms total well into the five figures for acreage acoss about a dozen states. Their whitetail program is pretty much for his personal trophy hunts about once a year, otherwise they finance other fun programs like his endangered/extinct-in-the-wild game. If you're going through the effort to actually breed them you will make sure it's with good genetics that will score well for a typical buck. Atypical trophies are a novelty but when "genetic material" runs $10K-50K per load you generally want to stick with the more desirable/bread-and-butter kind of option. Large bucks ranging with good diets and without much competition will naturally get you atypical bucks at about as good of a rate as you can hope for. Nature does a pretty good job of creating freaks on its own.

The biggest thing for a lot of game management is more likely to be your culls than your breeding selections. The farm I know of breeds about 10x fewer animals from AI every year than they kill due to deficient genetics. I can't overstate how important diet is either. You can have the best genes around but it is meaningless for producing trophies if the animals are malnourished. The game farm used "bulking" feed usually used to help build muscle in growing race horses. I can somewhat look past what this guy does to about a dozen captive studs annually for the benefit of thousands of other animals. I rank it about par on my rich asshole scale. His customers are something else though. I'd put them about the same as the bixnoods in this thread.

Speaking of which: A dog show was shut down after a mass brawl broke out. Footage shows attendees throwing chairs and hurling punches. Don't let the stock image up top fool you, this was at "The Miami Bully Takeover" and the video is about what you'd expect. If it weren't for the dogs and absent kids, it'd look a lot like your typical Chuck E. Cheese brawl video.

Jesus christ that's amazing, I expect nothing less from florida.

MATI but my kokoro wish is for these subhuman apes to all off each other during a massive shootout with each other at the Denny's parking lot after one of these torture dog "retreats" or "shows". In real life, of course.

Also show dog people, even the normal-seeming ones, are an absolute goldmine (or shitheap?) for personality disorders. I wasn't raised with horses but this thread has taught me they are just a richer version of the same people. Normal people with an ounce of empathy just don't get into pet reverse-eugenics.

These animals are tragic and so uncanny to look at. They appear like the real life incarnations of sloppily done drawings. An 8 year old's crayon drawing of a dog would look more realistic than these living creatures. There is at least a sliver of dark comedy to be found in how trashy the breeders are. I suppose these basketball American breeders decided one day to begin breeding their dogs with as much care and consideration as they put into making their own children.

While I agree, I think that the poor version doesn’t care about creating a certain kind of dog for aesthetic purposes, it’s just another “easy way” to make money. Which is why they use mob/gang slang. Yes: rich breeders and their street counterparts do the same things, but they come from abysmally different places.

This thread is so horrible. The only things you should really be breeding animals for are job performance, product yield (and even then it should be done humanely), and good temperament. These “toad dogs” are just sad bags of wrinkled flesh incapable of living happy lives, even if they’re rescued from of the endless horror of getting forcibly bred over and over again by some spastics trying to make a quick buck. Even if they’re removed from that awful environment, the rest of their short miserable lives will be filled with pain and suffering because they were bred to be mutated dysgenic freaks.

Good God most "normal" english bulldog owners can't even be bothered to clean their dog's wrinkles, I can't imagine how the hell you would even maintain all of that.

As someone who has worked with dogs in the past, doodles are worse than pitbulls in my eyes. At least people have a basic understanding of how pitbulls can be dangerous animals. I've had owners swear up and down that their "designer" dogs are perfect angels, yet the doggy daycare I worked at was no better than a gentrified dogfighting ring. People flock to these dogs because irresponsible breeders swear they're easy to take care of and will always be gentle while most are genetic messes with an absolutely horrible temperament. (I know a couple that breeds them to pay for their kids' college funds because they can get such a high price for them.) Doodle owners will swear that they do research and picked the breed because of X reason, yet throw a tantrum when a groomer has to shave the dog down to the skin because the coat was so severely matted. I really do hope the designer dog trend starts to die down soon, there are too many irresponsible backyard breeders mixing breeds that shouldn't come together and too many idiots using them as a status symbol instead of a companion.

Not true for all snakes. Several smaller species require more food than this, especially when considering insectivores.

Again untrue for many species, and that's a major problem in the field. Arboreal snakes do require verticality, and this completely ignores that snakes do seem to need things to keep them active and this system doesn't make any sense for that.

A lot of these same arguments have been made for other animals like fish (Bettas, goldfish) mammals like hamsters, and other reptiles like various lizards. Not to mention the massive amount of misinformation around hermit crabs, they actually need hamster wheels and shit to stay mentally sane.

I see a lot of the same mistakes that were made for hundreds of years with dogs and cats being repeated with the relatively new herpetelogical breeding industry. People are out here breeding scaleless snakes and other reptiles, notably lizards, as well as going for the craziest color combos while ignoring the damage being done to the animal. Look into spider ball pythons
for one. I think we need a thread for lolcows specifically in the reptile industry, people like Brian Barczyk promote this misinformation and are prime lolcow material themselves.
(Late I know, I'm catching up lol.)
Actually didn't know that, thank you for correcting me, I love reptiles but I don't work with them nearly as much. It's sad how much they get mistreated because people are too fucking exceptional to understand how to form a disconnect between human understanding of emotions and animal behavior. A gecko is not a dog, just because it's not whimpering and restless in pain doesn't mean it has no emotions or needs.

frontlegsgone.jpg

Some backyard breeder was caught intentionally breeding dogs with no front legs.

There are videos of the dogs scooting themselves around using their back legs to push them along while their weight rests on their chests if you feel like being upset. I don't think they work in the archive, but the original article is still live and they work there, with the exception of the video that was hosted on Youtube.

Another article. No vids. Woman lives in Oklahoma.
Third article. Short on details about where the dogs came from, but has more/different pictures (and a lot of them).

But, if you breed two true dwarfs, you end up with four complete dwarf genes. This to a 50% chance of a true, 25% of a false, and the even worse option: 25% chance of a peanut. Peanuts are the exact reason why breeders should never breed two dwarves. Peanuts have double the dwarf gene. They are born unable to grow, sometimes won't grow fur, and can even just grow smaller. Hardly do they ever live beyond one week. These are rabbits born to die.
I will point out that this is true of almost all dwarf mammals, including humans. The most common forms of dwarfism are dominant, meaning you only need one copy of the dwarf gene for dwarfism to be expressed. But both the normal gene and the dwarf gene in a dwarf creature are active. One turned on, or the other, in every cell. This provides just enough normal growth for the person or animal to survive.

If two dwarfs with a similar enough kind of dwarfism reproduce, their kid has a 25% chance of being non-viable because it will inherit two dwarf genes.

Ah ok, yeah I mainly just know about scaleless colubrids. One of my friends used to have a scaless beardie, he was pretty normal other than needing lotion on his skin sometimes. He was bright orange so he looked like a hot wing. Unfortunately he also had adenovirus and neurological issues from that.

Wasn't Bryan the first to produce a scaless ball? You gotta wonder if its the scaleless gene that causes all those issues, or if bryans shitty husbandry also play a role.

Anyway fuck Bryan Barcyzck, probably the biggest reptile lolcow.
Scaleless beardies can be hard to take care of, but not impossible. Seems to be a case of people not realizing they need to be very diligent on their sheds. Scaleless collubrids are fine. The scaleless ball pythons are a nightmare.

There are 'scaleless' BPs that are actually just missing some of the big scales on their foreheads. These seem to do fine.

Both Brian Byzarack and NERD breed spider ball pythons and jump up and down about how the morph is fine. Just 'slight' neurological issues like... then maybe don't breed them?!

Super cinnamons often don't survive due to spine kinking and other deformities. I am pretty sure Brian refuses to breed supers (the normal cinnamons dont have this problem) so thats nice I guess.

Palmetto corn snakes seem to get bug eyed more often, but bug eyes can resolve as they grow up and dont seem to cause issues.

A bug-eyed Palmetto. I don't wanna add a pic of any super cinnies
