@TamarYaelBatYah Reading Chumash without the commentary and free-associating isn't a particular interest of mine, but death in Bereshit doesn't end the familial obligations between the woman and the in-laws, so saying that Tamar had no relationship to Judah because she was a widow (he was a widower btw, widow is a gendered word in English) is not correct. The on-going obligations survive the marriage and are the subject of the entire procedure described in Devarim 25:5-7.
In fact, if you read the section in Bereshit 38, we see that after the death of Onan, Judah is described not as a widower (אלמן) but rather as her "your father-in-law" (חמיך) as in the verse Bereshit 38:13, חנה חמיך עלה, "Behold, your
father-in-law ascends."
