Why should I feel shame about what the US military decided to do against another country notorious for war crimes and human rights violations 40ish years before I was born?

Edit: it’s about power. Get other people to feel ashamed of their identity in nebulous, “Nu-Original Sin” ways, and you get to feel superior and entitled to boss them around. As awful as the atomic bombing were they pale in comparison to the death count and destruction caused by the fire bombing of Tokyo in 1945.

Tokyo wasn't even a military target.

Also you have to laugh @ feeling shame over historic acts because the Japanese are wholly unrepentant over their actions during WW2. Imagine a post WW2 Germany where after a quick show trial and pardon Hitler went back to being in charge of things.

It was actually the correct choice, though. Douglas MacArthur made that call and it was the right one. Imposing unnecessary additional humiliating conditions to what was already an unconditional surrender would have served absolutely no purpose. That kind of post-war revenge, like the heinous Versailles Treaty, is what would have just led to future conflict.

It's arguably an unfortunate side effect that they get to act completely shameless about the events of World War II, but so what? Look at what excessive self-loathing and guilt are currently doing to Germany.

Progressivism/social justice is defined by its commitment to an idealized version of the future. It selects for dedication and piety, not practicality. Pointing out that the proposed changes are unworkable means putting a limit on the idealized future, so that needs to be shouted down.

To the SocJus mindset, the problems of the world could be cured by a combination of sufficient resources and dedication to the cause. When this doesn't work, it means that the people with the money just didn't have enough dedication to the cause. Progressivism cannot fail, it can only be failed.

What's really sad is the hypocrisy of it all IMO.
A lot of these people push for inclusivity but openly discriminated against those that don't share their ideals even if its one of their own.
We see people try to push for diverse voices but only if they have left-leaning agendas because if a black conservative pops up then they're " The bLAcK FaCe of WHIte SupremaCY".
What's worse is that the people running these Progressive movements are millionaires who profit off of the naivete of Zoomers who I think they're doing the right thing by donating thousands to these individuals on patreon.
