An AR-15 isn't designed for hunting either.

It technically CAN be used, but then again handgun hunting is also a niche thing.

Hunting Is reliant on the caliber size. Large caliber rifles like 30.06, .308, ,270 Winchester are meant for hunting large and medium sized game. Ie deer, elk, and etc....

The AR 15 uses is a .223/5.56 and it better at taking out small game like feral hogs and coyotes. I know plenty of guys who use their AR 15 for small game.
