That makes me wonder. Who/what was the TRUE first VTuber. Guess that could be a hard question, it depends on how far you’re willing to stretch the term vtuber.
if we're talking animu-style i'm pretty sure mirai akari was the first, she dates back to at least 2015 afaik

that makes me wonder
What exactly is the work requirement to stay in HoloLive? Seems Ayame streams for a couple months for 1-2 times a week or even biweekly then leaves for a month before coming back. Rinse and repeat.
after the first year you're not required to stream, only during first year are you needed for at least three streams per week except for explicit breaks

I'm watching the 1-month Ethyria stream and holy shit do these people not care about OpSec.

It's so funny listen to them all talk about knowing each other before in their past life and fangirling they got in together while the chat has a collective meltdown about 'doxxing' themselves.

They're completely aware everyone knows who they were beforehand and are doing the bare minimum to keep up appearances. I kind of prefer it that way, because it means they're allowing themselves to talk about stuff of the past and how they genuinely felt rather than treat Ethyria as this weird clean slate.

Everyone says the same till some weirdo starts calling their parents asking weird questions.

Even that's a relatively new rule as far as I remember.
Ayame's always been part time even at her streaming peaks. 1-2 per week with some exceptions + usually 1 sometimes more member streams if there's a public stream that week.

Since still in university and the family business JP rrat, her contract has probably always been "do whatever my dude".

At no point will I say Ayame shouldn't stream more but if she's part time which presumably she always has been and bus‍y outside Holo then it's whatever until Cover decide to redo their older talents contracts.
Japanese company changing the contract for a senior employee hahahaha imagine such a world.

Guess who

Vtubers shouldn't reference each other's real lives, it just invites all sorts of unnecessary drama for little gain. Especially in this case when Pippa's tweet didn't amount to much more than "heh heh I'm also in your sekret club and have access to forbidden knowledge" without much a punchline. Kiara's fans were being overtly sensitive over a very dumb joke, but unfortunately navigating around fragile idiots is the name of the game on Twitter and Pippa needs to be smarter about this.
You see that's the issue with pandering too hard to the "secret club".
Because the chans have a lot more people that like Kiara or just really hate doxfaggotry than they have pippa fans. And they are just as shizoid and petty enough to email PC about it.
I really just wonder what the fuck she was expecting to happen and I somewhat doubt that Kiara even noticed anything given that she came off of 4 hours of milestone karaoke.

Kiara doesn't do anything at all this time, and still get shit on KF for the stuff that's not her fault years ago for the hundred time. Suck to suck.

As much as I dont particularly care about Kiara or the current nothingburger that has happened, why did most people from this place resorted to slandering her? She hasn't even done anything yet. Does this place really have a hateboner for the en orange woman? It was a distasteful joke and a borderline dox done by a supposedly corpo chuba, of couse people will react. Yes its a dox simply by virtue of Pippa pandering to both here and 4chan, she knows most of her audience will get it. And there is bound to be a kfp lurking here or there that gets mad at something like this enough to alert prisma, they are a cult after all. Its a funny haha joke but Pippa shouldn't be surprised by the consequences of her actions, with her joining a corpo and all. I don't think she minds either way, getting out of the maro might actually be a win for her.
Seriously, Kiara was literally nowhere to be found during this entire thing, and the way some people are talking on here, you’d think Kiara did a stream specifically to have everyone cancel Pippa.

Curb Your Exceptionalism, for fucks sake.

Did we get an influx of retarded people join in this thread as of late or am I imaginng things.
Man, I step away from the thread for half a day and come back to 10+ pages. My first thought?

"What did Pippa or Kiara do now?"

Glad to see I know this place well enough by now. It's been a while since we had a mass spergout. It was overdue.
Tell me about, I also had shit to do and soon as I saw the page count I knew it had to be maybe one of them 2 now. Was a good read though to say the least.

I don't understand how anyone even thinks she knows about it in the first place. Do people not comprehend the sheer number of people that @ these girls on a daily basis? Do they think that as busy as these girls are, they find time to check hundreds of mentions daily? Absofuckinglutely not.

If someone important @ her, sure. But some random fag she doesn't know? She's not giving them the time of day. The real autism test will be to see if one of these faggots brings it up in a SC or something.

You got the people who just like to shit on Kiara for funsies, and then the people who really do hate her for whatever reason.

Stuff like this bring them both out in full force and they just kinda feed into each other for a while. Hence the consistent doomposting about her.

Mirai didn't actually "debut" until October 2017, so well after Kizuna Ai. Her original channel goes back to 2014 though because it was actually created by another vtuber named Eilene, who was involved in the creation of the "Mirai Akari Project" before parting ways with them. Eilene was pre-Ai, though, since she does go back to 2014.

Typically discussions of the "first vtuber" devolve into Annoying Orange jokes or people mentioning Youtubers who use drawn avatars. It's probably near impossible to determine who was the "first" for the latter (especially if you factor in other streaming platforms alongside YT). Then there are examples of vtubers/productions that are a bit closer to what we think of, like Ami Yamamoto in 2011. Or utaite, who do overlap with vtubers and especially vsingers a fair bit.

Skits and shows animated with MMD became popular on Niconico in the early 2010s, and imo probably had a direct influence on the rise of vtubing. Ishidate Koutarou was one of the guys behind many of these. Some were just standard animation, but some were based on actors - pushing things closer to vtubers - and in 2014 Ishidate was behind an anime called Minarai Diva which did use motion capture. So 2 years before Ai there was an entire TV anime with anime girls that were motion captured VAs doing comedy skits. Of course, this wasn't on Youtube. Ishidate's stuff, and similar animation, was very popular on NND, and it's worth noting that the early waves/gens of Nijisanji and Hololive drew heavily from people who got their foot in content creation on Nico Nico Douga.

Eilene & Weatheroid Airi are the earliest "anime style" vtubers I can think of, but it's arguable how similar their content is to later vtubers and I also don't know much about pre-Ai era so I am probably missing people. Personally I also don't take issue with those who simply credit Kizuna Ai as the first "virtual youtuber" (while acknowledging her predecessors) when discussing vtubing as a tradition instead of a set of technicalities.
