I don't speak Spanish very well but I live in an area with a dense Spanish-speaking population, so you kind of pick up the basics. It's also a city, so there's also some amount of being talked at in public.

One time my partner (a cis woman) and I were walking down the street and got "mis amigos"d. For whatever reason that hit me a lot harder than the more typical (and obviously targeted) English-language street harassment I get.

It was like I was the person who turned "mis amigas" into "mis amigos" just by being present in that situation. Like my AGAB was strong enough to force a linguistic pivot. It was pretty humiliating.

I think part of it is that for explicitly-transphobic street harassment, it's easy to tell myself that they would say whatever shit they're gonna say no matter what—in comparison, with the Spanish misgendering, it's a simple statement of "this is how I see you and how the language I speak compels me to address you."

Color theory tyme!

Certain color combinations are considered complimentary colors; colors that "go together", even though you wouldn't think they do.


To find the complimentary colors you take a color on the color wheel and find the color directly opposite it. In the case of yellow that is purple. Green and red; and orange and blue are the two other primary color complimentary colors combos. The idea is you mix two of the three primary colors and the one left out "goes with" the new color.

Where people drop the ball is not using the right shades of each color. In Erin's case the purple didn't match the yellow, and there was too much of each. A darker yellow (the shade next to the primary yellow on that wheel) with that purple sweater would have looked fine.

I used to get some incredibly exceptional individuals when I used dating apps. And I never quite understood why because I refused to use any of these ridiculous terms like 'cis' or put my pronouns on them. I don't know how I can make it more obvious that I am not interested in you beyond directly writing "fuck off".

They don't apply any kind of common sense either - if you have a sensible profile, with sensible photos and act your age while talking about your very normal interests and hobbies, you will still get messages from Tara Lily with his rainbow wig talking about how he is 420 friendly, ACAB, NO TERFS, Marxist/Communist flags.
