Community Munchausen's by Internet (Malingerers, Munchies, Spoonies, etc) - Feigning Illnesses for Attention

Victims of child sexual exploitation never really unlearn the belief that the only quality they have to offer is sexuality.

Thats why inappropriate sexual behaviour is a red flag for child abuse.

As adults they end up with the most abusive men in society because they are the only ones who show them love in the only way they know.

I went out with a girl who had been through this and, despite loving her, i ended it because it genuinly scared me.

So as horrific as i think Bees home life is now, what awaits her is so much worse.
This is very true, but kids that experience sexual abuse usually go hyper sexual or hypo sexual.
Slut positivity is a cope for the first imo, being “asexual” is a cope for the second.
Either way, go to therapy because those are some dysfunctional as fuck attitudes towards sex.
All child sex abuse victims should go to therapy ideally but optimistic.

Yes youre quite right, it can go either way.

These girls often end up getting a diagnosis of BPD. In this context, i cant think of a bigger injustice than giving them a label that destroys their credibility.

So many actual injustices are persisting because we let people pay off their conscience by engaging performative social justice on issues that dont exist.

Holy hell. This is actually offensive. For context - November 11th in the UK is Remembrance Day. Whatever your opinions on that, war, veterans etc - WTAF Bernie?!
There is almost nothing she posts that doesn’t make me feel like I immediately need to apologize & shower. Her Halloween week cosplay posts were fucked, but trying to tie in Remembrance Day into her fake ass amnesia spells is, wow…

This is an amazing encapsulation of everything wrong with the "social justice" movement. Wonderful, thank you.

Question: are wheelchairs for chronic fatigue necessary? I get that chronic fatigue can fucking suck but I’ve come across many young white women on Instagram who use power chairs for their chronic fatigue, usually britbongs and often with a decent online following/brand deals. I’m used to seeing power chairs for EDS (insert eye roll here) but chronic fatigue? Really? Super interested to know more.

I know someone, actually more than one who uses a scooter for MECFS. It's a thing because making people with CFS do anything at all to try and get better is literally torture and will kill them.
The activist contingent has even got the official guidelines changed now. The BMA tried to rebel and stop this which was unheard of but it has gone through now.

I guess I get the people who rent them in certain places. Like if a rental chair/scooter is the difference between being able to enjoy your family vacation at Disney and being stuck in the hotel alone then I think it’s fine. The people who are like “I need a custom power chair/ultralight manual chair for my CFS” are the people that I find really fuckin annoying. If you have zero objective sign of organic neurological or neuromuscular disease or certain orthopedic illnesses, there’s basically zero chance that you legitimately need that level of support.

I also hate the fact that using a wheelchair for fatigue has been co-opted by these people. There are legit cases where people need (custom high-end) wheelchairs for fatigue- people with neurological or muscular conditions who are ambulatory but have muscle weakness that makes it hard to walk long distances. Think incomplete spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis, etc. When medical professionals are discussing wheelchair use for fatigue, these individuals are the people they’re usually referring to. Not 20-somethings with self diagnosed CFS.

These girls online have custom power chairs. I get maybe renting one sometimes or whatever but these are the super high end custom light power chairs fully operated by one stick on the armrest. Wild.

One person I know is going to apply for government funding to get a super expensive lightweight folding scooter so they can travel by claiming its for work. They already have a perfectly serviceable scooter and a car.
I seethed quietly about this.

There are people with chronic pain who sometimes can't even walk or drive because of pain that don't use wheelchairs because they already have muscle atrophy from reduced activity and they know wheelchairs are a death knell for their bodies. Once you start depending on a chair you go downhill because even walking a few steps around the house on your own is beneficial.

In my experience people with genuine pain disorders want to avoid wheelchairs as much as possible, not get special hot pink barbie wheels with zebra print seats.

There was an episode of Diagnosis on Netflix that features a guy who’s heart would literally stop for several seconds, leaving him unresponsive. They did a shitload of testing and concluded it was a somatic reaction to his traumatic af childhood that he never dealt with. He went to therapy as prescribed and never had another cardiac episode. Imagine that.

The premise of the show is based on a NYT column by Dr. Lisa Sanders. She gets a case and crowdsources possible diagnoses. One of the crowdsourced ideas usually ends up being right. Incidentally, there was an episode featuring a white upper class teen in Utah who puked every time she ate. She had a port for fluids and didn’t have to go to school. Doctors involved in her care said they wanted to take the port out and that her mom usually wanted super invasive treatments. The crowd suggested a number of things, from munchie fave GP to bulimia. One person suggested rumination syndrome. It fit completely. Dr. Sanders secured a spot for the teen at a treatment clinic and set up a Skype meeting with a girl who was treated successfully and the little brat said she was disappointed that the other girl had a positive experience and she was hoping to hear that it doesn’t work. She never followed through with treatment, presumably because she wanted to continue her spoiled brat sickie princess shtick. Very interesting indeed. Also gross and fucked up.
(Off topic but that show sounds really interesting. Is it worth checking out?)

I actually watched the episode after seeing that post and I think it's worth the watch! I haven't checked out any other episodes yet but I might just have to because that episode was really intriguing. At first I was getting serious MBP vibes from the mother, but as the episode progressed it seemed like the mysterious "illness" was perpetuated by both the mother and daughter equally.

I actually checked the girl's Instagram page and it appears she got married recently - interestingly enough, from what I could see, she still had the port in all her pictures up until the wedding, then it mysteriously vanished... But in her most recent pictures, it looks like she decided to trade in the old port for one of the less noticeable under the skin ones - I was really hoping that she came to the realization that she wouldn't be able to live a full and happy life by continuing the munchie lifestyle, but that may have been overly optimistic of me.

No, not really. If anything, using a wheelchair for fatigue just makes these girls even more deconditioned and incapable of tolerating normal daily activities.

Glad other people thought it was interesting too! I rewatched It after making the post and realized I mixed up a couple of minor details. She does still have the port and, surprise surprise, got the munchie fave MALS surgery and shit all over Dr. Sanders, saying she was just like all the other meanie doctors who diagnosed her with rumination. Her reasoning was this: the producers went with a “behavioral” diagnosis (rumination is not behavioral and it is not an eating disorder like lashay claims. It’s a reflex.) because had the “accurately” given her the dx of MALS and the surgery didn’t work, they would’ve had legal trouble. Never mind the fact that Lashay ALREADY HAD a diagnosis of rumination from the positive testing, or that the episode prior was about a little girl with Rasmussen’s and got a surgery to implant a brain stimulation device, at the advice of Dr. Sanders.

Sure Lashay. Whatever helps you and your munchie mom sleep at night 🙄

Edit: added details

As a day to day tool, definitely no.
A foldaway type for occasional use on long days out? Could be reasonable, as long as the medical professionals also agree with the usage.
Ultralight weight fully motorised with recline-in-space? Definitely overkill and inappropriate!
an elderly patient once said to me "if you don't use it, you'll lose it" and that very much applies whenever wheelchairs and scooters get brought into the equation if that becomes the primary choice over walking anywhere.

Recently I came across several persons on tik tok, who claimed to be disabled because of Hashimoto. One even claimed to have chronic fatigue because if that and being unable to do physical activities, cause it would "cause her hashimoto to flare up". I mean, just take your fucking meds and live happily?
And ofc every one of them is autistic or "neurodivergent". 🤦‍♂️

Victoria has been devastatingly boring lately, so here’s a horrifying transformation that shows off her shitty shake-and-go plastic wig that she doesn’t know how to style or even wear properly, and somehow looks worse than her “thinning” pube-like hair.

There are hundreds of millions of alcoholics and prescription drug addicts in the world right now. Who knew so many people are Literally Disabled and don't even know it?

If I didn't know better, I'd think that drug use is how fairly ordinary people respond to being forced to do boring absurd shit to survive.
