Inactive Richard "Lowtax" Kyanka - Deadbeat (emphasis on "Dead") founder of Something Awful, forced out of his own community, on his second divorce, stuck his dick in crazy, "Birth Giver"

Can someone explain why everyone seems to hate this guy? Sure he's a moron, but he hasn't actually done anything that bad as far as I'm aware
Kind of a multiple tier thing:

1. Was a deadbeat pill hound father that was a piece of shit to wives/kids/every one the internet.
2. Created a really fun, great place on the internet back in the late 90s/early 2000 that people had a fun time but instead of working to keep it going fucked off to be point 1 and let the trannies/SJW/etc ruin the place and spread to the wider internet.
3. Pissed of trannies/SJW/Furries that SA used to make fun of that still hold a grudge even after Lowtax let them take over and run SA now.
4. People that got banned from SA and are still bitter about that $10 loss.

So all in all Lowtax was a big old bundle of terrible.

Ultimately, he either banned too many or not enough trannies, depending on whom you ask. I guess the lesson is to just pick a side, no half measures.

5. It's arguable that SA was the origin point of the sjw/cancel culture phenomenon that's now ruining the internet and society at large.

The irony is that Lowtax didn’t really give a shit about politics, but let political culture wars ruin his comedy forum.

The first instance of someone bringing real serious, angry political shit to the forum (who had any power) that I’m aware of was writer and mod (super fatty) Zack Parsons and his GF Fistgrrl. They were serious and angry about 2004 elections. I also recall Zack had abandoned his two small children and wife to go be a 400 lb kept man by Fsstgirl in Chicago, so truly the moral authorities on society and feminism.

Are they still a couple? Either of them commented on Lowtax’s demise? It’s astonishing Zack, a angry, sedentary 500lb man, has outlived Lowtax. Also, it was Parson’s who came up with the poison womb quip, lot Lowtax.

I was pretty young in 2004 and I wasn't a massive SA user but I do remember seeing troons and a variant of the "you have been banned for hate speech" thing way before reddit was ever a thing.

I was young and not paying close attention but don’t remember any shit about hate speech in 2004. At most anger over “real racism” as opposed to “ironic racism” and only that was judged by whoever the poster was.

The first thing I remember about troons was a AMA thread by a MTF about being a transsexual. Maybe in 2006? Idk. It was the seed that spawned all the troon mega threads. The first one got huge attention and went gold, so ofc another one by another tranny followed soon after, then a third and soon there were so many troons coming out on the forums the spun off mega threads filled with them.

The first AMA was a terrible precedent because that initial troon got TONS of attention and asspats and I’m sure that had an outsized effect on lonely, depressed, autistic, male teen goons. Suddenly a sure fire way to forum acceptance and popularity appeared. I can’t even fathom how many guys started RPing trannies so they could get instant forum acceptance and support. I can’t imagine how many troons the trans-mega threads generated.

it was definitely the flash point for the spread of sjw culture on the internet, but the SJW shit has been a problem brewing in academia for like seventy years. it's not some kind of new phenomenon at all, but lowtax was in a prime position to nip the anti-fun brigade shit in the bud before it spread on the forums 15, 10, even 5 years ago - and not only did he not have the balls to, he was enough of a pussy to remove the 'problem' subforums like laissez faire because they were 'too difficult to moderate' while they had moderators who would spend their time just repeatedly banning people for personal greivances. there were periods of time or flat out entire subforum moderators that were cool and reasonable but it was pretty much the wild west for most of the forum's history and that would have been fine if the whole organizational structure of the forum didn't rely on decisions that could only be made by upper leadership that was completely absent for years at a time. so absent that there were multiple moderator coups, if i remember

its more like he was the owner of the forums when that stuff started to infect and fester, and his head was so far up his own asshole that he wasn't even capable of acknowledging any aspect of his administrator position or take any sort of active role in the forums besides angrily and bitterly appointing useless sycophants to 'fix the problems you keep bugging me about." his 'wake up call' and subsequent reaction to the tumor metastizing into the entire forums like some kind of eldrich horror is legitimately so dramatically malfeasant and ridiculously incompetent a failure that it's befitting of a shakespearian tragedy

Not sure if it was the origin point, but goons were definitely among the early victims of the outbreak. A big hook of the troonist cult seems to be its ability to feed an unwarranted sense of entitlement and desire for attention - obviously very appealing to the average goon, so it spread to them early.

They also got their first taste of power there with the Shit Reddit Says thread that got turned into a whole sub-reddit and then just kept spreading.

Bans for sport=10buxes in his pocket. So to a -certain- extent bad mods were a feature, not a bug to ol' Rich.

That's a big reason why I never got on too. It seemed at best like a game of minesweeper on hard mode.

the forum never really moved on from that style of moderation. like the facepunch forums back in the day, there was an aspect to the strict authoritarian attitude that helped facilitate a culture in the forums that would otherwise be overrun by people in the early 2000s when there wasn't really an 'internet culture'. facepunch moved on from that well before 2010 (and moved on to an entirely different owner), and something awful never did anything. i don't have a problem with that ridiculous mad magazine style attitude, where the 'ban me' or 'im gay' thread tag would literally ban you, or how mods would make threads like "IF YOU DONT POST A BIRD IN THIS THREAD YOU'LL BE BANNED." it's hardly what i would call a stable business model but it worked for a very long time, but literally no effort was ever put into bridging that gap with the future state of the internet or really thinking about its purpose or how it impacted the forum community well past the point where it served a purpose. im pretty sure there are still 15 year old emoticons in the codebase that will automatically probate you if you use them in a certain phrase that haven't been posted in a decade or more

the novel idea to pit retards against their own word to earn redemption (toxx clauses, i think?) legitimately could have held the forum together alone, with nothing but direct intervention from the top down (because, at its core, the executive authority to just ban people for being unfunny was what the forum was built on) and somehow even though sheer incompetence managed to put lowtax in a spot where his job wouldn't have even been hard - he still never bothered trying. lowtax is one of the few people who have managed to gather nearly universal ire without actually doing anything bad, he was just that much of a pathetic retard, living proof that it's better to take action and fail than to not take action at all

IIRC the last substantial thing Lowtax ever did on the forums was force the mods to uphold toxxes for the 2016 election, since so many people lost when Trump won, and and the tranny squad at the time didn't want to ban so many of their people.

I don't even know if those bans stuck, and I think they even decided to end the tradition of toxxing for elections because of this.

Exactly. There have been wrongthink purges for decades. It's just that the internet allowed the problem to accelerate by allowing like minded shitbirds to organize at a moments notice.

If he want such a shit there would have been no mass exodus to 4chan.
Not true, the 4chan split happened only because Lowtax banned anime loli pedo shit so they created 4chan to enjoy the anime fetish shit that SA banned. Furries were also detested and banned onsite for years.

It would seem the few times Lowtax did try to clean out an degenerate infection the disease just went a flourished elsewhere.
