Xbox 20th Anniversary Celebration Thread - AKA Xbox Nostalgia Thread

According to Xbox compatibility program lead Peggy Lo, this will mark the final batch of backwards compatible titles to be released, with Lo explaining that the team has "reached the limit of our ability to bring new games to the catalog from the past due to licensing, legal and technical constraints".

It's great news for all you diehard fans of Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader: Make the Grade out there, but that's a disappointing list to completely end the program on. I didn't think the likes of Silent Hill 2 or GTA 3 & VC would make it due to those getting significantly worse "remasters" later on, but no Crazy Taxi 3 or JSRF, huh? Well, that's awful.

Well, that's just great. I guess dreams of DOA Xtreme Volleyball on Xbox is dead.

Dead or Alive Ultimate, Dead or Alive 3 and Dead or Alive 4, but no Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball? What the shit? I can only assume feminists are to blame, unless it has something to do with music licensing, but Ultimate and 4 have the Aerosmith songs and it seems to me like the only song in DOAX that might be expensive is the Bob Marley song, but you're telling me Microsoft couldn't afford that?

Sucks this is the final batch of bc games but that reasoning doesn't make sense, what fucking issue could stop Blinx 2 from being added.

Missing these games none of which seem like would be a licencing nightmare
Fatal Frame 1/2
Brute Force
Silent Hill 2 and 4
Cold Fear (pc port is ass)
Crash Twinsanity
Gun
Dead to Rights 2
Dino Crisis 3
Sonic 06 (okay it's shit but it's pretty funny)
I-Ninja
Manhunt
Metal Arms
ObsCure
Pac-Man World 2 and 3
Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones and Warrior Within
Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy
Second Sight (another not good pc port)
Spyro A Hero Tail
The Suffering games
Total Overdose: A Gunslinger's Tale in Mexico
Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks
Urban Chaos: Riot Response
Whiplash
The Warriors (it's on ps4 thur ps2 classics)
Anarchy Reigns
Armored Core games
Condemned 2
Eternal Soanta
Exit 1 and 2
Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax
Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing (pc port is shit, while the follow up is better this one is still good)
Sega Superstars Tennis
Stranglehold
WET
Sega Soccer Slam
Freedom Fighters

Hope they go back and add more. A sub 100 OG xbox games being bc is pretty sad.

What licensing issues would Sonic games bring up if a few Sega titles are BC?

I still miss it when Xbox tried to make good RPGs.

It's a shame that this, Eternal Sonata, Manhunt, Fatal Frame and Armoured Core aren't in the last batch.

I'm slightly optimistic that they add more during the series X lifespan.

Regardless they're still somehow leagues ahead of Sony and the especially out of touch Nintendo which, funnily enough, is something nobody could have predicted when seeing the Xbox one 2013 showcase.

Doubt there is any issue with the music because Sega reused fuck ton of the songs for other games and the such. Maybe some deal with the voice acting is the only reason I can think of but still doubt that.

I always forget that Silent Hill 4 got an Xbox release. That's another one that doesn't make sense to leave out, considering it wasn't on SH HD Collection, though who the hell knows what Konami's doing at any given time.

Plus, you mentioned a lot of Sega games, and I mentioned Crazy Taxi 3 and Jet Set Radio Future, two more that never saw rereleases. Sega's the king of porting their games to anything that can run them, so that's unusual.

But hey, now we can play such timeless hits as Black College Football Xperience: Doug Williams Ed, which I had to look up to see what that even is:

Amazon's product page said:
Black College Football Xperience: The Doug Williams Edition is a first-of-its-kind game that immerses players in the rich culture, history and pageantry of football game day on Historically Black College and University (HBCU) campuses. The game fuses realistic, bone-jarring football action created using the Unreal 3.0 engine with two unique new rhythm games, the interactive Halftime Show and Drum Line Challenge. In addition, a wealth of historical data has been integrated in the Legacy Museum and dozens of licensed tracks performed by college football's most entertaining marching bands are included in the game's Jukebox.

so Jet Set Radio Future gets overlooked yet again, but that's okay because now we've got NIGGERS!

Good news though, the #1 question asked about this game has already been answered:

JSRF is a mess right wise due to the soundtrack sadly, not sure if Crazy Taxi is the same. Same reason many sports and racing games didn't come over that and car licenses.

What's funny about Black College Football Xperience: Doug Williams Ed, it's one of the frame rate boosted games as well

Crazy Taxi 1 had a slew of rereleases where they replaced the soundtrack, and I'd say that's one of those games where it really doesn't feel right without the original one. It just isn't comfortable to hear "HEY HEY HEY IT'S TIME TO MAKE SOME CRRRAAAAAAZY MONEY, ARE YOU READY? HERE - WE - GO!" without "YAH YAH YAH YAH YAH" leading into The Offspring's All I Want.

But, I'd rather have the game with a replacement soundtrack than nothing at all, because at least it's mostly there. Plus, it's fine for newcomers who didn't get used to the original OST, so they can still enjoy the game.

Crazy Taxi 3 being omitted is one that especially chafes my butthole because:
  • Every version of it is relatively rare, and while it's not really that valuable, even the Xbox disc isn't so easy to find, and that's noteworthy considering there are very few rare original Xbox games
  • It never saw a rerelease, and only had ports to Windows (even rarer, and maybe not even released in NA) and arcade (lol forget about it)
  • CT3 Xbox wasn't supported on the 360
  • CT3 Xbox also had the arcade mode map of CT 1 and the Small Apple map of 2, along with their drivers, so it outright came with stripped-down versions of 1 and 2
  • And speaking of Crazy Taxi 2, that's a game that only had a Dreamcast release, as well as a changed-soundtrack version on the PSP by way of Fare Wars. It never saw any other rereleases.
It's kind of strange how CT1 is just on everything, yet 2 and 3 are virtually extinct, and this would have been a great opportunity to resurrect 3. Fuck's sake, 3 came out in 2002, its been nearly two decades since you could buy it.

First two games I played on the OG Xbox were Destroy All Human! and Voodoo Vince. Great times. Makes me happy to know that DAH not only got some sequels, but remakes of the first two games, and Vince got an HD release on XB1 and Steam- seriously, if you haven't played it, it's a great game. The soundtrack was phenomenal.

In addition to the above mention games I also played the hell out of Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath and Psychonauts. Man I miss the Gamecube/Xbox/PS2 era.

I remember playing this game when I was little.

Shame Blinx never caught on, there was potential in the series. The sequel was better, you could hold on to more time controls at a time, and the custom character creator was fun to lay around with, considering you played as anthropomorphic cats and pigs.

I don't think any of the burger king games are backwards compatible for Xbox either.
Bummer. I enjoyed Sneak King back in the day, it was a fun little time waster that was so absurd you couldn't help but like it.

There's a football game centered around black college football.
I JUST posted about that game last night.

Who even ASKED for that obscure title? No Backbreaker? No Blitz: The League, but THAT?
