One of the things I was most surpirsed about when i started wokring in a school for the profoundly retarded was that a large portion are just your blind kids who really should not be there.

One of my co-workers at my volunteer job is married to a man who has a G-J tube due to cancer. He's in remission, but his insides are all messed up (to put it lightly) so this is how he eats.

I finally met him a couple months ago, and if you just saw him out on the street, he looks like a perfectly normal 75-year-old man.

Even more seriously disabled kids like tards benefit from an IEP, its potatoes who aren't aware or conscious who receive no benefit.

That said kids who are of normal or above average intelligence get shoved with tards a ton in sped. And they all are pretty commonly treated like garbage.

Yeah, I think that people like your coworker are or were the original population intended to benefit from a "Feeding Tube Awareness Week". Like, hey, feeding tubes can help people who look mostly normal but can't eat for some reason, here's how they work, it's not scary or bad or gross! It's...less necessary to make people aware that kids like Paisley can't eat by mouth. No shit she can't, the poor kid can't do anything but lie flat on her back staring into the void.

Severe cleft palates often suggest something else wrong, but it won't cause a full potato. It can be totally isolated, but I haven't seen it. Further facial deformities along the midline tend more toward potato. Seems to be that on the spectrum, the palate is the first to feck up, then other areas. That's not always the case cause you can have midline defects without clefts too.

Happens so fucking often for them and cerebral palsy kids and so forth whilst all the teachers pat themselves on the back over how inclusive they are. The teachers are the worst culprits.

(Had a 'teacher' state, in front of a kid with CP, to another teacher that he didnt understand. She regularly spoke to the kid like he was a toddler. Like, presumed competence is the most basic step of decency and people fucking fail at it.)

Yep, sounds about right for sped teachers. A lot of them talk to even kids with normal or above average IQ like they're toddlers. It's pretty infuriating, especially if you're on the receiving end of that shit.

Sped is full of NPD bitches who view themselves as saviors to the poor suffering subhuman sped kids.

Special Books for Special Kids might not be the worst person posted itt, but he still talks to the kids with that fucking sped teacher baby voice and it drives me up a wall.

There was one episode where he did it to a child who was normal intelligence but he coudlnt understand her. Both her and her mother were done with him and it was very obvious. The episode is posted ealrier in this thread.

What's that called when the kids tongue is like attached to the bottom of mouth and it requires surgery to cut and repair it? Simple procedure?

I remember learning in college that some of those kids go misdiagnosed with all sorts of special needs/autism/sped/speech class stuff , simply because they can't talk correctly. Or eat correctly.

Another example of intelligent kids getting lumped in with the tards.

Tongue tie, which may also indicate other problems, which might be why a child is thought to have special needs, when all they have is a correctable speech impediment.

And since we're talking about feeding tubes, I was very surprised to find out that most "speech therapy" is actually done to treat swallowing problems, which are common after strokes or long-term ventilator therapy.
