Russ has a weird view of the law, he seems to use it as his moral compass. If it’s not illegal then it’s morally right. For instance, if forcing women to sleep with him isn’t illegal then it’s not rape, it’s morally and ethically sound.
There’s no shame in using hookers in Nevada where it’s legal, therefore it’s perfectly moral and if it’s legal everywhere then he is a moral and upstanding citizen everywhere. He boasts about it because it’s not shameful, there is no reason to think that it might be wrong or nasty, it’s legal.
It could be that his birth family are pretty horrified by his boasts of using prostitutes, so if he makes it legal in California they simply can’t have an issue with it, it’s within the law and his morality stands firm.
He thinks what the farms do is immoral, but he has no concept of what that actually means, in his head it means it must be illegal because it’s wrong. He doesn’t like it, it makes him feel bad and therefore there has to be a legal avenue to prove to the world that he is right and we are wrong.
He can explain what happened with Erika, he can justify it, he wasn’t doing anything harmful in his opinion, therefore he cannot have broken any laws and so completely dismisses his conviction.
Famous celebrities turning him down makes him feel bad, therefore their morality is bad, consequently he can deal with this within the law and make it illegal to say no.
It’s all really warped but if you try and perceive how he confuses morality and legality you can make some twisted sense out of his actions.
