That was my ship when I served in the Navy -- The USS America CV-66 and I'm quite familiar with the story.

At this point, I think Biden's administration is banking on and hoping the courts shoot down the mandate.
It's obviously going to tank the economy further and destroy the midterms.
The only play they have remaining is this one:
"Those big meanies in the Supreme Court stopped our plan that was the only way to stop covid! The fact that it's still around is all due to the unvaccinated people who would have taken the vax if it was mandated. The GOP thwarted our ability to commit to any of our plans and our only hope is that with another Democratic term we can stack the courts so this never happens again. The economy and supply chains are in shambles because covid has killed so many workers, of course, and that would have been avoided if not for Republicans, so blame them for the breadlines."
Is it a longshot? Yes, the Democrats are polling terribly right now and I know so many people who have walked away from Democrat party-line voting that I expect a massacre no matter what spin they try to put on this disastrous presidency. But no way are they going to take responsibility for the mess they've created. They need obstructionism from the conservative wing of the court if they want to have a snowball's chance in hell of coming back from this in the next decade. Without a scapegoat to point to, it's all looking bad.

I love that even a half-assed attempt to actually solve any issues isn't an option.
We joke about the national guard being the Democrats solution for everything, but even a half-assed "we will use our military to help the supply chains until a permanent solution can be found, especially during the holidays." Make it at least look like your attempting to solve the problem, even if it doesn't work in reality?

What's the story behind why Spanish colonists openly and freely interbred with the native populations?
Here in the U.S. native populations are much smaller (or, at least they are now,) localized to certain areas (again, they are currently,) and didn't interbreed with whites nearly as much (or maybe they did but people don't notice as much because populations were just naturally more isolated and sparse?) In the meantime it seems native blood is still very common all over Central and South America and they live all over. It's not even the 1/16th Cherokee whites you hear about here. They look 75%-90% Indigenous.

You have no idea how close the UK came to a violent revolution during the blitz. It was rough most places, but in London it was only prevented when the government capitulated on allowing people to use underground stations as shelters. The people were sick of spending their nights in flimsy, useless andersons, while the great and good lived in concrete bunkers 50 feet below the city. That capitulation only came when the people stormed the locked stations and forced their way in; the government realised that Parliament would be next unless they gave way.
The blitz spirit is mythologised to hell and something that emerged from the people, not the state. They claimed credit for something they actively tried to suppress at the time.
