Piece of shit software - Crappy software/apps/programs that make you MATI

I'm surprised by how little hate Adobe has gotten. Their entire suite of products is bloated with upsells to get users to spend money on cloud storage and stock media. I do not want to see ads in software, much less software that I'm paying for.

All the proprietary file formats are designed to lock people into the Adobe ecosystem.

What's worse is that updates break the software. Why pay for a subscription with "updates," when updating will waste hours or more of your time?

I stopped using Adobe when I wasted 10+ hours due to a bad update. I updated Premiere Pro, edited a video, and then it exported with green (dropped) frames. I rolled back to the previous version that didn't drop frames, but I was unable to open the project file. It was not compatible with the previous version of Premiere Pro.

When I search for a solution, I can across an Adobe support thread that was started more than a decade ago. It was long and filled with people encountering the same bug year after year. It never got fixed because all the work went into trying to suck more money out of people.
Problem is that the suite is fucking awesome. It's easily worth the monthly fee.

It's well worth pirating, but I would hate to be the kind of retard that pays for Adobe's bullshit subscriptions. I'm not even arguing that the one-time payment was better (it was certainly expensive too); the software as a service model is just too retarded for my tastes.

Surprised no one mentioned SAP. Now I'm sure SAP is fine on it's own.
But my employer decided to stake the whole fucking farm on it. Everything from quality assurance, inventory, parts, finished product, vacation, time sheets and payroll are run off this system.
The GUI we have is not user intuitive unless you've been using it for a while.
For example I go to look up a part. I can't just type a fucking description. I need a variant, a variable, a stool sample and a functional location just to even begin to see if I have this in stock.
It's so unreliable that my coworkers frequently come up "is your sap working?" " Can I use your PC to close out this po? Mines down"
It seems like my employer just keeps crowbaring worthless "modules" onto an already full of shit client just to make managements job easier of pulling reports that don't mean anything.
I don't even work in the IT department and I've got boomers who can barely check their email asking how to do complicated inventory movements in SAP. They ask me after they fuck it up, naturally.

Another one is Datametrics DC Pro. It collects and saves measurements of specialized equipment which is pretty cool because some of our lab equipment is old as shit
But it's so insecure you can just scroll back and delete previous measurements that someone else took.
Another problem is it's set up on a PC separate from the PC the instrument is plugged into on one of those KVM switches. So when some halfwit knocks a plug out they just leave it. The program doesn't tell you it's not connected to the instrument PC
There's a reason we keep a Windows 95 PC set up in the back and functional!

Also why in the fuck do devs still bother making splash screens for programs anymore?
As someone who's had the displeasure of programming this shit: No, it's NOT ok.
To all you dipshit managers out there: It's not 2001 anymore. You've had 2 decades to move to an actual programming language.
Anyone who willingly uses "4GL" crap deserves the exorbitant fees these jokers charge.

I say dipshit here but the last job I went to that used this was run by someone actually nice. Didn't stop their technology stack from driving me up the fucking wall though.
Even the hardened fuckers who'd been working with this rubbish for ages used to sweat bullets whenever the servers creaked.

In a thread about piece of shit software, it's ironic you suggest uTorrent is good ;) In seriousness, it's much better to use qBittorrent or Transmission over even the ancient (and buggy) ad-free uTorrent version that exists.
Yeah, Utorrent is a pretty bad choice. I meant to say bearshare.

Googling SAP and realizing the language is named ABAP immediately reminded me of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRG43agvh9k

I don't think it's crap, but Blender has (or had) a terrible UI that makes it really hard to do anything.
Oh boy. Blender's UI is a very special hell.
For those unfamiliar with blender it has a dense, complex UI resembling Photoshop that hasn't had a major overhaul in over a decade. There are so many functions that 90% of them don't have UI elements and need to be accessed via hotkey or search box,

I really should say 'hadn't had an overhaul' there because it did get one a year or so ago with the 2.80 release that moves two thirds of the common functions to different places and remaps nearly everything to a new set of shortcuts (goodbye muscle memory). It also added several new unnecessary UI widgets like pie menus that nobody asked for and added irritating behavior where some controls selectively hide themselves based on your past behavior.

The end result here is 90% of the blender tutorials, walkthroughs and books are now completely obsolete since everything is so different, :heart-empty: 2.84? readded an option to use the old keybindings but like a third of them don't work or are obsolete due to changes,

The most infuriating part about all of this is that they still haven't fixed the fucked up plugin architecture (one of the driving forces behind the 2.8 backend overhaul) so AFAIK there's still no way to write a plugin that doesn't involve digging through many arcane C macros and recompiling blender itself.

I absolutely hate Adobe, but after effects doesn't have a decent alternative. Even flash(rebranded as animate) doesn't. So many people are forced to use their absolute garbage that crashes at least once a week resulting in loosing hours of work. I tried paying for it, running it on different machines, but I always encounter the same issues and legal copy was even worse. Made my PC run like a Pentium III with with windows Vista

Paint 3D takes the cake here though. Whereas MS Paint knew what it was and didn’t try to be anything more (a simple, easy-to-use graphic editing program that runs out of the box on any Windows installation at the cost of sacrificing some functionality) Paint 3D attempts to be a poor man’s version of an autistic love child between Blender and Photoshop, and fails miserably. It tries to be a professional tier editing software but runs like shit and is incredibly clunky in design, likely due to being plagued by the modern tech world’s hard-on for minimalist garbage and tablet bullshittery. Stop trying to phase out legacy software that worked x10 better for the sake of your “aesthetics”, you fucking cunts.

Last but not least, Game Launchers - possibly the most cancerous invention since nuclear reactors, game launchers are a blight on the earth and share the same problem as there being 20 different movie streaming services (but infinitely worse because of the inherent interactivity and configuration requirements) Steam is tolerable enough to where I don’t complain much about it. Valve seems to know what their user base wants and 90% of games I give a shit about are there so it works fine in that respect. It can run a little poorly but that’s par for the course for modern software. But then, for certain games that have been held hostage by their studios looking to milk the properties for all they’re worth, you have to download fucking 7 other launchers just to access these games. Any EA game? Origin. Any Blizzard game? Battle.net. Fortnite and whatever the fuck else Epic leeched onto their atrocious software? Epic Games Launcher. All of these things require separate accounts, tend to lack key features in different aspects, run fucking abysmally, take up way too much space for what they are, and are ugly as pig shit. Stop fucking taking your games from Steam and putting them onto your proprietary spyware shit that’ll be dead in 3 years, and if you’re gonna do that than at LEAST hire some more competent pajeets to make sure these things don’t give my computer a fucking artery clogging every time I even look at their icon on my desktop.
Fucking paint 3d. I noticed it gathering my current location (yes, gps location) once it was up. What the hell was up with that? Disabled it and never brought that app since then.

Also, uplay is the one I happened to have encountered. Launchers from launchers sucks geriatric ass. UPlay and most of those launchers are laggy and clunky. Never had Origin but I did see how it works, it's awful.

First off, you're incredibly unlikely to need an install disc for any OS to last that long. Secondly, the production quality most discs you could buy 20 years ago sucked dick. I think the only ones you'll find on Amazon now are Verbatim, which IIRC are mostly manufactured by the Taiwanese ghost of Taiyo Yuden. Third, flash media, although non-volatile, requires enough of a charge to remain in order for the data to remain intact. If you don't turn on the drive for 20 years, that's as much of a risk as a DVD-R shitting itself.

The solution is to not buy laptops that don't have an optical drive :^)
My point is that cds are not a reliable archive medium as they were seemingly pushed as. I doubt most discs are even above the reliability of a floppy disc if you sat them both on a shelf for a few decades. It's a massive shame most of them were made cheaply because we're probably going to lose a lot of media on a similar scale of old movies that has organic compounds and practically dissolved. Not on the same level, but close. I'd definitely want discs to make a comeback if they were all made to actually last, and had an improved storage capacity as many companies have claimed over the years but never met the funding to afford production of.

I’ve got quite a lot of bitching to do, so I’ll condense it into one post for the sake of my fellow readers.

Razer/Gaming hardware management softwares - If you’re unaware of what I mean, this would refer to any software you have to use to configure the settings on a piece of equipment from that brand, whether it be mice, headset, keyboards, etc. these fucking things never fail to run like total ass and hog about 70% of my systems resources while doing so. All I want to do is tweak a macro button on my keyboard, there is zero logical reason why my computer needs to have a fucking stroke running this glorified spyware every time I do it. Give me the option to change shit on the hardware itself and cut out this annoying middle-man.

Microsoft Proprietary System Utility Programs - Especially bad on Windows 10, Microsoft has been doing their best to shove their minimalistic modern-era shit software on you for even the most simple tasks. If you use Windows 10, opening an .mp4 or .avi file opens the “Videos” application instead of Windows Media Player, and somehow despite the latter being over a decade old it still manages to boot faster, use less resources, and contain more features than Microsoft’s ass-tier bloatware replacements. Same story with the “Images” app, especially as it seems to attempt integrating online functionality. I’m not making an account to look at a .jpg for 5 seconds you niggers, let me use Windows Photo Viewer in peace.

I’ve got other minor complaints about some software but this shit takes the cake.

Text wall over, top hats expected.
I have to agree with your last point, THIS, whilst people tend to bitch about the sterile and incompatible nature of Apple and the constant viruses and shitty running of Windows and whatever the issues with Linux are, most of these I can overlook as there aren’t too bothersome unless it’s for work purposes , specific hang ups about design or compatibility or just personal aesthetic preferences. But variousGame Launchers are the one thing where I completely understand the hate coming from, for most other design flaws in software I can somewhat be forgiven or understood like ‘maybe it was a stupid mistake’ ‘or it was a solid idea poorly executed’ but game launchers take the cake it terms of shitty programming, infuriating lack of compatibility and bugs and crashes out the arse.

Steam Is fine like you said, it mostly runs well and Valve do know what most of their user base wants, although I’ll never stop loling at the disaster that’s the steam console and the current look of the steam page doesn’t look great. But all the others, Origin, Epic games, Battle.net and especially GoG galaxy have fucking hundreds of games that are only specific to their library and often have ugly or bland af interfaces, plus take up way too much space on my laptop with their installation making games and my Laptop chug and run like shit. On top of also making accessing said games to play Ridiculously convoluted and exhausting startup, sometimes not even running or uninstalling said games whenever the fuck it’s the least fucking convenient time and I just wanna play some online crap after a hard days work. In short Pc game launchers are the biggest cancer on software as a whole and the biggest argument against PC mastah race culture there is.

I’m done ranting now, Also Apple products have shit compatibility often and bland, simplistic interfaces.

I have thrown away a laptop over this absolute wankery. It was a cheap little netbook type thing that wasn't worth much but the BIOS wouldn't let me disable secure boot. No way to add keys or change the boot order or anything. ASUS ANUS also has the most clueless customer service Pajeets on Earth.
sometimes you need to set a bios password before it will let you disable secure boot. i remember having to fix a laptop that I had to do something wierd like that to disable it.

If you're an artist and use SAI you're reeeeetarded. Just buy CS Paint like a real one for sale on one of their bi-annuals it's literally the GOAT aside from Ph*toshop....and don't bitch about paying for a software if you also bitch about art theft.

Already well REEEEE'd Adobe anything is a pain in the ass to install and uninstall, my computer still sees it as there and taking up space even though I yeeted it into the sun.

From what I heard Krits is pretty good and it's FOSS. Then again I'm an autist, not an artist.

I looked up CS Paint (had never heard of it) and holy shit, that's an astonishingly good price for what it does (even the "EX" version).

As for nuking Adobe software from orbit (it's the only way to be sure), I wholeheartedly recommend the free (open-source) Bulk Crap Uninstaller tool. It knows how to find shit you'd never knew was even installed and how to uninstall things rather forcefully if needed, even if it's no longer got any "official" traces anywhere (i.e. the uninstaller is gone, no registry entries, etc.). It almost feels like black magic, but it's dealing with Windows so the dark arts are already involved anyway. At least it's open source so you can actually go see how the sausage is made if you really want to.

It can (and prefers to) use "official" uninstallers when possible (supporting the usual suspects, but also Chocolatey, scoop, nuget and friends), but can also uninstall assorted garbage Microsoft (and OEMs) install via the stupid "Store" or whatever even if they don't "officially" permit removal. And I don't mean the usual "disable and hide it but leave its binaries on the machine and registered" trick some tools use; I mean "disable it, burn every reference to it then no-recycle-bin-for-you yeet its binaries to /dev/null."
