The ridiculous stereotypes about trans women who transition "later" in life are so outdated. I hope to debunk one or two.
It always seems laughable and it saddens me at the same time what ridiculous stereotypes people always have about trans women who didn't get to start puberty blockers at 14 and HRT at 15-16 or even before 20.
I was nearly 26 when I popped my first hormone pill. I wasn't starting with super femmy lookes either and yet 2 years of hormones, clothing styling, hair styling, voice coaching and lip fillers have brought me to a point where I'm able to move through society without registering as trans to anyone. I just look like any other woman out there, despite a puberty and a portion of my adult life in a male body.
I think people need to be made more aware of how powerful transition after puberty can still be.
These myths about how it won't do anything because your bones are fused and stuff like that are toxic and bullshit.
My hips are actually wider than most cis girls hips. That butt is clearly not male either and neither is my bossom.
Your life is not over if you decide to transition in your mid 20s because you couldn't do it in your teens at home.
It was a good move for me to wait with my transition until I had a college degree in the pocket and was no longer depending on my family's approval.
I transitioned when I could emotionally handle the arduous journey and that was the recipe for success.
Renée Richards didn't transition before she was 41 and she is still alive to enjoy life as a woman 45 years after her bottom surgery.
Jan Morris also had another 50 years as a woman in front of her after her surgery.
Lynn Conway didn't get to transition before age 30 either and now she is the poster child for beautiful trans women who made it.
Marci Bowers was 38 when she transitioned. All womanly, still alive and kicking 25 years later.
Christine McGinn was also 30 when she transitioned. She gives movie actresses a run for their money in the looks and femininity department.
All those beautiful trans women you see out there, or at least 95%, were not on puberty blockers before we transitioned. We played the waiting game just like you do.
Society gives us a flawed image that only transitioners who start at 12 or 13 can look decent and passable to the point of going stealth.
Meanwhile there are trans women who spent 30 years of their life or more hiding behind a macho mask, sometimes having been in the military and fought in Iraq and Aghanistan ( looking at you , Sona Avedian ) and blossomming into the most beautiful epitomes of femininity you have ever seen.
Trust in wat hormones and medical science can do and thou shall not be disappointed.
3 years ago I didn't even think it was possible to have an organ between my legs that would look like a real vagina.
Now I have an organ between my legs that not only looks , feels and behaves like a real vagina but is a real vagina.
16 year old me day dreaming about being a pretty girl contesting in a beauty pageant, would never have believed that science would have been able to create the woman I am today.
Here I am, this is me and there's no one I would rather be
Have hope!
