when an engineer talks about machinery or electronics, you can actually test and verify it based on whether the machines and devices he builds actually work and do what he says.
when a chemist tells you that two substances can undergo a certain reaction under specific circumstances, you can get in a lab to test these claims and get clear confirmation about whether he told the truth or not. when a mathematician tells you that he came up with a proof for some new exotic property of exotic numbers, you can read the proof and see for yourself whether it is correct.
you can't do that with fields like psychology.

I think that a lot of doctors want to create forever patients who depend on them to have their drugs refilled more than they care about the well being of their patients.
Drugs have their place and are necessary sometimes to help a patient, but they must be part of a larger plan. The objective should always be for someone to be as healthy as possible and, ultimately, to not need your help as a health professional.
For example, the fact that millions of children get ADHD drugs but aren't getting taught how to manage themselves and their attention through therapy is a fucking crime.
