Here's what pisses me off. This entire video could be boiled down to him looking at the camera and saying "game as shit" and I would still have an equally good understanding of why this game is shit. If you're going to make a video reviewing a game, especially as a "critic" like Jim, actually explain what is(n't) good about the game. Jim doesn't know what he's doing anymore. I don't mean that in a "he's incompetent" way, because I've read Jim's reviews long before he was making videos and up until the end. No, he knows how to review a game.

What he doesn't know is if he is trying to inform the viewer and critique the game, or if he is trying to entertain the viewer. There is a gradient between these two points of game reviews, critique and commentary, but he needs to know where he falls on it. He doesn't know anymore. He's just spouting out shit. He doesn't know if he's Skill Up, who gives fairly dry but informative reviews, or if he's Max0r, who "reviews" games by giving you an epileptic seizure leaving you foaming at the mouth as he memes on you for 10-30 minutes while telling you why he does or does not like the game, explaining more than you'd expect about the game itself, and still somehow being more intelligent about it than Jim.

There are people in between these two points as well too, Mandalore is closer to Skill Up, but still entertaining and likes to sneak in discreet jokes and memes (there is a moment in his System Shock 2 review where an enemy says "silence the discord" and the discord message beep plays in a blink and you miss it joke), and is very aware of the memes around him, playing off them such as when he occasionally deadpan references and plays off the associations between him and SsethTzeenach and the meme of them being the same person but on or off of their meds respectively. Speaking of him, there is SsethTzeentach who is mostly memes, but actually leaves you understanding the game he just reviewed and you know whether or not you'd want to play it by the end, though he isn't as meme heavy as Max0r. There are other YouTubers who cover that space between dry yet informative and pure entertainment reviews such as TheRussianBadger, RagnarRox, Shammy, and Raycevick. They are all in different places along the line, all of them have different goals as reviewers and YouTubers, but they all know what they are trying to do. I also can use the tastes of any of them as a barometer to know my opinion of a game, I've figured out what their respective likes and dislikes are and even if I don't agree with their opinions, I know how I will agree or disagree.

Jim's opinions are non-existent. He says whatever will get the most ass pats. I can't judge if I will or will not like something based on them, nor the footage he uses as he cherry picks his footage and most of it is disconnected and random. I can't tell what the fuck he's aiming for, what his actual thoughts and opinions are, what the point is beyond a platform for him to bitch about unrelated crap and get views.

Personally I like the entire spectrum of dry to funny review content, so long as the person has opinions to share and a passion for the subject matter or the art form in general, yet Jim doesn't have either.

I know I'm pretty late in responding to this, but Jim's criticism of the game falls apart completely when you consider one fact: that it's clearly an attempt at a 3D remake of the NES game.

With that added context, the problems Jim has with the game (its simplicity, its repetitiveness, etc.) become irrelevant. I don't know if he didn't mention this because he genuinely didn't know, or if he realised that bringing it to the viewer's attention would expose the fact he has nothing to really complain about and he's grasping at straws for content.

His "I've seen some bad games, but man this is bad" speech at the end seems overblown, and if that wasn't him calling it a damn scam certainly is. Not saying it's great, not even saying it's good, but I've seen far worse. Like 90 percent of the shit he covered on his Steam Greenlight commentaries is easily worse. Also there's a shit ton of license games that came out back in the day which were comparable in depth to Popeye, and in a lot of those cases they would be full priced retail games, while this game's only 12 bucks. Hell, we just had the GTA3 remasters happen, and honestly you might be better off with goddamn Popeye than those at the moment.

This might be an extremely stupid idea but funny enough I think Jim Sterling could have had a better career if he pursued something like Marketing or Business- or even being a Fraud Analyst- considering the fact the videos he produces on the "shady business" aspects of the Video Game Industry and admittedly very well-researched- especially due to the fact that alot of the business models propped up by companies like EA in regards to loot-boxes is somewhat experimental due to the fact it blurs the legal "line in the sand" between Gambling and Entertainment.

I think it goes deeper than just faking his attraction to dick, but also his kinks.

There's a term in certain kink circles "attention sub". Jim fits the type. He displays a bunch of submissive kinks in hopes of getting attention from doms. I doubt he really had them to start before he Stockholm'd himself into them. It's a common phenomenon, and they are generally avoided because they make very dangerous partners. Likely to never speak up if things go too far or they hide injuries that need attention just so as to prolong things to get more attention. They are safety hazards. Most doms don't want to harm (hurt yes, but not harm) their subs, even on accident, the thought is mortifying for them, but attention subs often don't speak up, afraid they will stop getting attention and so will let things go too far.

He's incredibly surface level. Having read the research papers on how exploit the human psyche for lootbox sales, Jim doesn't even begin to realize how awful it is. Jim doesn't research that much, he could go deeper, but he doesn't. He's lazy and doing more would take work.

I think with Jim and bringing up he is trans, it is not so much as he talks about it too much, and he does, but he goes off into too many tangents. Now the Jimquisition was always Jim's soapbox but he used to do a far better job of staying on topic.

When I watch a video about lootboxes I want to hear about what is going on with them, not get a lecture on the evils of capitalism. His eye goes off the ball.

Now you can talk about how Capitalism plays a part in allowing businesses to get so exploitative with the lootboxes but he changes the topic to ranting about Capitalism and lootboxes just becomes the example of how bad Capitalism is.

See where am I getting here? He changes the focus of his videos too much off of the advertised topic. He does this with bringing in trans issues as well. You can bring it in, but you need to connect it the advertised topic and not allow it to take focus away from the subject matter at hand.
