You may have hit on a half-truth, but that's all. Chris is capable, on the most rudimentary level, of making microwave meals and scarfing down fast food. He can drive, albeit pretty poorly from most accounts. But can he complete paperwork, especially involved material? What about his record on personal hygiene? He's notorious for both acrid body odour and DIRTY, CRAPPED BRIEFS. He's proven himself incapable of holding down even the most basic of jobs for more than a couple of months at the very most.

He can look after himself on a purely selfish level, as long as nothing comes along to complicate matters for him. Of course he's not completely incompetent, but he's a long way from what I'd consider self-sufficient.

I didn't say he was self sufficient. I said he'd always have enablers and weens giving him money.

I just think if he is left on his own, he isn't going to die of starvation or something like people are implying. People are making it sound like he is a complete incompetent.

I'm with you. He's not completely incompetent. He isn't self-sufficient. He is somewhere in the middle. But there are a LOT of sad, useless people who get by in that middle. The reality is if Chris got out on time served, he'd just go back to eating McDonald's paid for by some old guy on facebook and eventually die in his 60s of sepsis.

If Chris gets off with time Served he wont even get that as he's been in county jail and has never officially entered the prison system to then be discharged from. And if county jails had to give a shit about homeless retards they would quickly go bankrupt.

I think we forget that if we want to discuss Chris and housing and can he take care of him self etc....this is the fucker who burned down their house.

He candidly couldn't live on his own. He fundamentally needs an assisted living set up. Sure he can come and go, but he also needs people to check if he's bothering to shower etc etc; and I bet it's a minor miracle he still has the ability to drive. It doesn't really take much to lose your license in the USA, and now that he thinks he's an actual god, he might decide to flippantly ignore road rules and the like. Once he couldn't drive to fast food; he couldn't even feed him self with out some one to ensure food was delivered etc.

Not to mention the assisted living situation would do wonders for hoarding. Toys are one thing, but actual old trash is another. Though I don't know how much of the Chandler piles of actual shit are from Barb's influence or Chris' lazy and inept nature.

It's not like he needs someone in the room with him 24/7, he just needs to live in a facility where they check up on you and help you with your basic needs., makes sure you're taking your meds. i.e. something like an assisted living center, not a nursing home. It's probably fine if he can go out and walk etc. as he pleases as long as he has an ankle monitor to keep him away from Barb. (As long as the monitor has an audible warning if he goes someplace he's not supposed to, to remind him that he's being bad. Modern ankle monitors actually can make phone calls to the authorities managing you and they can talk to you asking wtf you are doing, and give you a warning before you violate your restriction)

But at the end of the day, Chris doesn't NEED to do those things. He doesn't need to clean his room or walk the dogs or not eat fast food.

He SHOULD do those things, obviously. But he doesn't need to in order to live his sad little life until he dies of a heart attack or infection or slips on shit and concusses himself.

The state of Virginia is not going to look at Chris and say "you smell bad, you need a nurse." If they gave assistance to every single fat slob who doesn't exercise or shower, they'd be very very busy.

People are mistaking things Chris should do(not eat junk, shower, exercise) with things he needs to do to be allowed to live on his own.

I think a history of extraordinary mental illness typically is/can be relevant. Like I remember there is that case of that woman who drowned all of her kids. She didn't end up doing a life sentence to my recollection because of a combination of mental illness factors, post-partum depression and probably schizophrenia since she mentioned being told by God or demons or something to do it. Can't even remember her name but that is what I recall of it. I think it would have to be pretty remarkable mental illness though, not the typical low IQ sociopath shit that a lot of criminals have going on.

But again, it would need to be demonstrated that Chris's actions were being governed by the mental illness, I would think. But to the contrary, he showed a level of competence in manipulating the situation with Barb that is actually higher than he typically has in other things. And in any case, being mentally ill wouldn't necessarily mean he gets to walk away without ending up monitored for life at least. Just because you have a reason for being crazy/dangerous doesn't really change that you are crazy/dangerous.
