This might be the most insidious lie ever told in history. Humans are not good at their core. I have no idea how anyone could possibly think that with just a cursory knowledge of history. There isn't a single major religion that holds human beings are basically good. Every single one requires humans to adhere to a set or rules and/or work on self improvement. There's a reason for that.

The minute everyone gets rid of the presumption that humans are inherently good is the minute the world is a better place. People don't get to assume what they are doing and want is good since they are inherently good.

Focus more on the last sentence of that quote. People will generally try to behave in a way they perceive as good.

If you're told your entire life a group of people are evil, and you aren't particularly smart, you can justify yourself being a good person even if you're terrible to them

The majority of humans are inherently good. The problem is that the shitty ones ruin it for everyone else.

It's not even true. The "my family abandoned me thing" is something terminally twitter people seem to pull out whenever they look bad for something. I've personally seen 3 family members use the same bold face lie in similar twitter interactions.
