Bigot Brigade Something Awful and Friends - The roller-coaster train-wreck embarrassing downfall of a Web 1.0 giant and its tick offspring like from Cloverfield

I have. Didn't care for it much.

While it has a lot of that nerdy, greasy, tranny element just like Something Awful, it also has a large population of normal users.

Since it's completely free, well known on an international scale, and has a board on every topic imaginable, it naturally attracts a lot of every type of user.

SA, on the other hand, attracted exactly one type: losers.
Sir, this is Kiwifarms.

By historical parallels, I meant Something Awful being somewhat similar to Sturmabteilung, which put Soc in NatSoc and is nowadays best remembered for having pedos and sexual degenerates among their ranks, while Something Sensitive, from what I understood, emerged as a response to SA's increasingly leftist leanings, and was ultimately more right-wing, similar to how Schutzstaffel was opposed to Sturmabteilung's socialist views. No Night of the Long Knives yet, but it's not like Something Awful is relevant anymore.

As to whether Lowtax is Hitler or Röhm in that scenario, all three ended up with a bullet in their brain, so...

I watch as the point is missed, sailing over you like a kayak with two lesbians in it, one of them married to a fat manchild.

What was the story with that? It was a fun little place for a while, and had some kind of proto-alt-right thing going on. How'd it end?
Hangly really wanted the site to become a Serious Proto-Alt Right Salon where there would be long-winded articles about politics and religion, an alternative to MPC. A lot of us just wanted to shitpost about SA and goons so he just abruptly SHUT IT DOWN.

At least, that was my take. GAPO was always the opposite; he wanted SS to be almost exclusively about SA, though he did do a lot to foster discussion in the current events board early on. But he always consistently said if SA ever died, SS should die with it.

Meanwhile, a goon fires off a hot warm take about a certain admin and his dead posting fiefdom:

I think we all forgot about ol' Fluff in the midst of Lowtax yeeting himself.

Goons really are just the dumbest fucking creatures
There's really nothing but absolute mongs there to the point it always seems amazing to watch even a single person attempt to talk basic common sense that anyone with a remotely functional brain could understand, and then watch these speds sperg the fuck out instantly.
It's silly to make an assumption like that based on Something Awful users taking lowtax's side, cuz "men hate women" because there weren't any actual men on that site.
Everyone there actually is a man though even without testicles. None of them will ever be actual women.

Genuine question: was SA every actually good? The vibe I get from reading this thread and LowTax's is that while it had it's moments in the early to mid 00s, the users were all certified mouth-breathers who just wanted to ruin things for other people and the mods were all on the registry for one reason or another. Is that accurate?
SA was a lot funnier when people thought they were acting that way for laughs, but over the years it turned out they weren't.

I'd argue for all the stupidity and GBS being full of unfunny morons, the website absolutely was worth the entrance fee from 2001 to 2008. Some parts of it were still very good by the beginning of the 2010s but the rot had set in and you can mostly put the blame on Ozma, EPG, Fistgrrl and T. Finn being unfunny humor police and actively accommodating every whim of the whiny self-centered spastic that is the modern goon.

SA was good for a while. There were a lot of interesting, creative, and funny people. The :tenbux: kept out at least some of the more deleteriousy internet riffraff, so you could ask questions and get answers that were useful from people with actual knowledge. You could ask about news items and get perspectives across the political and autism spectrums. You had board events like the P-P-P-Powerbook, gooncamp threads. People who were good at photoshop back when it took skill and not just clicking the right AI.

After the 2008 elections the site began a long, uninterrupted slide in worthless faggotry.

The oft-repeated "When SA was good, it was in spite of Lowtax not because of him" is absolutely true.
