Spoilered to avoid derailingYeah, I'm a Britbong so in my country Catholics are a minority. (although we're growing - lots of immigrants to the UK are Catholic, and many people, like me, convert).
I heard about that. Was that the bishop of Málaga or am I thinking of someone else?
The bishop of Solsona was involved in promoting conversion therapies and quit in 2012, apparently he was gay and submitted himself to them (link). In 2019 it was found that under the protection of the bishop of Alcalá they were secretly running one of those programs in his diocesis (link). The bishop of San Sebastián also defends homosexuality can be "cured" (link from 2018 ) . The archbishop of Granada also holds this line I think.
At the same time, however, in the last month or so the Spanish Church (following the Vatican's lead I believe) has for the first time officially condemned conversation therapy. So the official line is changing, although they have a lot of hard-liners in positions of power.
Opus Dei and Kikos (Neocatechumenal Way) are sects that just do their own thing though.
