It's honestly horrible. I haven't experienced it myself (married) but from conversations with other lesbian women, every dating app lesbians use is absolutely teeming with trans-identified men who identify themselves as "lesbians" and are seeking out lesbian women. Most of my lesbian friends and acquaintances have stopped using these apps altogether because the sexual harassment is so bad from the men there. The ones who stay... it depends. Some get pressured into relationships and sex they don't want to have with men. Some play nice but turn every one of the shits down. Some just ignore them. All of them have it pretty rough.

Offline lesbian groups and meetups usually happen more or less in secret, because otherwise either you have to let the men in and the entire nature of the space changes (and many of the actual lesbian women leave the group) or you have to deal with turning them down and being called "exclusionary," possibly ostracized in your community, possibly losing your job and/or receiving death and rape threats, etc. I know at least one lesbian woman who I met online who got in huge trouble with her local "LGBT" group for trying to organize a lesbian only meetup group. (It's not all bad - there's a lesbian group in my town and to the best of my knowledge, it has never included any men and still exists. Probably just because it's all organized through an email list, though.)

It's really tough. These men are incredibly entitled and sexually aggressive, and they don't take rejection well. A lot of lesbians have had to go "underground" just to be able to meet up with one another without the presence of males. It's so ridiculous. And it makes it so much harder to find community and relationships than it already was - and it was already difficult due to a small population that is really spread out.

I've seen a fair few lesbians online saying that using that label is considered old fashioned and has "TERF" connotations nowadays. Seriously.

Most young feminine lesbians now go by "queer" "sapphic" and shit like that and if you still use the term lesbian you're likely a contrarian.

Then you have a branch that claims sex and gender are social constructs and aren't real except for the 75+ genders that totally are but lets just ignore that. Then add the Trans Community to the fire and they actively encourage as many people to troon out as possible.

But of course people aren't going to recognize you as a woman unless you start presenting and many of these people have little to no experience with actual women so they base their ideas of what a woman is off of their favorite media and stereotypes. This is where the porn comes in. They mostly know women from porn so they act like the women in porn.

What's more, the more aware they are of how Not Female they are, the more they over-emphasize their "femininity" and become more and more of a stereotype.

This explains many troons but it winds up creating an incredibly toxic person: Someone who HATES men and is deeply jealous of women. Someone who is both misandrist AND misogynist! Now add a dash of narcissism and BAM! The perfect toxic troon storm! How many of the ""lovely" "ladies"" on this site does this describe?

I began realising the connection when I observed that out of my age group, it was all the "ugly, fat" gender conforming women who were starting to call themselves non binary in the queer community, as though it was an out for not being 'successfully' gender conforming enough to be normally sized or have more symmetrical features. one of these 'queer fat femmes' is one Kelli Jean Drinkwater, a "fativist' and "artist" whose work exclusively revolves around why you should fuck her.

a few years ago, around 2010ish or so, Kelli Jean decided she was going to be a sex worker. a lot of queers love to LARP as sex workers for a time; they think it adds to their street cred and image of desirability. at this time, the concept of being a sex worker was gaining more capital in queer spaces, so Kelli Jean naturally wanted to hop on board. she paid a visit to an inner city brothel one day, where a friend of hers worked reception, to have a chat with her about working some shifts there and have a look around. there was another girl there from the queer community who knew both these women and had been a real, honest to god sex worker since her teens. she was immediately suspicious of the new cultural cachet being attached to sex work and was deepy critical of queers going for a tourist cruise in the industry, oblivious to how they were negatively impacting the women who were there to actually work. the receptionist and Kelli Jean sat around in the girls room like it was a coffee club for a long chit chat. the girl - the actual sex worker - was deeply irritated by this as it was an invasion on the down time and peace of mind the workers were supposed to enjoy in the girls room inbetween servicing clients. as she often said to the queers who treated a shift like a long house party and didn't seem to care if they booked a client or not because they were there for the image and not because they had to be - she was there to make money, not friends. she was also long burned out by curious gawking wannabes asking endless repetitive questions about "what it was like" to be a sex worker. this girl took great care of herself through eating well, rigorous exercise and learning how to groom herself in conventional ways, because she understood her ability to make money depended on these things. these visibly evident practices had already made her a target for Kelli Jean & other 'queer femmes' resentment and jealousy ("taking care of yourself is oppressive heteronormativity" or some other such nonsense) and the tension between these two women was already strung high when the receptionist engaged the girl in the conversation and asked her opinion on whether Kelli Jean should take a shift in that brothel.

this put her in a really awkward position, trapped in a room the size of a shoebox in her lingerie with these two fatties staring at her expectantly. she had seen obese women try to work at 'normal' brothels before and it usually went very, very bad. those women were rejected time and time again, usually left sitting in the corner of the girls room making absolutely no money, being further humiliated and demeaned as the night wound on. despite not liking Kelli Jean very much, the girl is a major softie at heart and didn't really want her to go through that so she answered very honestly that she felt the client base at that brothel would not be receptive and it would probably be an experience that left her feeling bad about herself and it would be better for her to try sex work in a way where she had more control.

the girl then totally forgot about this incident until some years later when she found out Kelli Jean had remarked to a butch that she was dating that KJ thought that butch would be "more body positive" than to date someone like that fatphobic bitch who had told her she was too fat to do sex work.

funnily, the girl really thought she had been doing the right, kind thing in her honesty. fat chicks can make money doing sex work, but not in mainstream brothels. they are better off working for themselves, or at any specific plus-size brothel/agency, should any of those exist where they live. their market is largely a niche, fetish market and brothel clientele tend to be just average guys looking for average pretty girls to have average sex with. it's just not the kind of place a niche provider is going to find her client base. and sitting out a shift being constantly passed over is an absolutely miserable, debilitating experience. since Kelli Jean had already had a lifetime of miserable, debilitating experiences relating to her fatness, the girl felt she probably didn't need another. yet, in the retelling, this became an act of vicious judgment that proved this girl was Evil and Bad.

there's a lot of threads about fatties resentful that people aren't falling all over themselves to fuck them here on kiwifarms. the rise of this rhetoric was simultaneous to troonism and all this shit is rooted in queer theory. in the world these people have created - the troons, the fatties, the freaks and the gender blobs - honesty is violence and not finding them sexually desirable is bigotry and prejudice that makes you an oppressor. simply being honest about their chances of making money in a heavily-looks based industry is violence, no matter how sincerely and PROTECTIVELY it was intended. they are all in bed with each other and their end goal is exactly the same: to stop people saying NO to them (specifically, sexually) and to characterise any NO as violence. Masculinity hasn't been "attacked", though. Not really. Masculinity and masculine men are still idolized in society, etc., it's just that there has been a widening exception for more and different expressions of masculinity and ways to be a man, and more pushback against the more toxic aspects of traditional masculinity (misogyny, domestic abuse, etc). Trans ideology doesn't really have anything to do with that.

I have to disagree since in my experience "toxic aspects" or toxic masculinity ends up being whatever people disapprove of at the time. I think we would just have to agree to disagree there though since the last thing this thread needs is more culture war sperging.

I don't necessarily disagree with all of your factors (though I think the anime watching is more of an issue than the video games), but I think you missed the single biggest one: Pornography. Trans ideology has risen roughly at the same rate at which extreme, violent pornography has become more and more easily accessible. It's a known, studied phenomenon that repeated porn use correlates with use of more and more extreme pornography as the brain gets less and less stimulus out of the same old material. Repeated porn use also correlates with the development of paraphilias, which autogynephilia is one of. The ability to access the most degrading, misogynistic torture porn you can imagine in seconds on your cellphone for free and the encouragement, particularly among liberal feminists, to watch for hours a day has contributed to any number of problems faced by modern men and boys (see: the rise in ED experienced by increasingly younger men who are addicted to porn, younger and younger male children raping their female classmates and little sisters, etc), trans ideology among them.

Trans ideology is based in hardcore misogyny. It is based on reducing womanhood down to misogynistic stereotypes drawn straight from pornography, the presumption that men can understand womanhood sufficiently to become one, the pervasive idea that women are merely sex objects, etc. Excessive pornography use has a lot to do with "teaching" these men those stereotypes... and then they lose sensation from that stuff and move onto, say, sissy porn, where they're taught that embodying those stereotypes will make them women. And so on.

I guess that could count as modern technology, but I felt like it should be more emphasized because I truly believe the ready availability of extreme pornography is a huge contributor to the rise of trans ideology.

And again I have to disagree, because this only works if your entire view of trans are based on the incel to troon pipeline. The most annoying part of reading this thread is people trying to find the main cause of troonery. It ends up with autists blaming faggots and women, and the gender crits blaming the patriarchy and coomers. Both are incredibly reductive and only make sense within your specific bubbles. If you should learn anything from this thread it's that people troon out for a variety of reasons, and the only solid connection is that they are all mentally ill in one way or another.
