You can get cheaper food at ALDI LIDL and Trader Joe's if they're near you. They were all founded by three brothers who realized it's cheaper to buy things with cash. You can get a lot of the same stuff at ALDI's that you can get at Trader Joe's. Trader Joe's has good prices on produce but all their prepared stuff has all the crap chemicals in them as any other place. ALDI has good prices on meat and it goes on sale on Wednesday. LIDL has very affordable canned goods and bakery items.

Oh no. Please. Not the heroin addicts. It would be terrible if something happened that resulted in fewer heroin addicts...
Naloxone has many important uses aside from resuscitating heroin addicts.

I mean, if we implemented "you break it you buy it" on intentional illicit drug use, I withdraw my objection. Keep the narcan for someone a nurse overdosed for pain.

I really want to make my doggo food but I keep hearing about dogs having health issues for too fatty food and I'd rather just buy super premium kibble and give her the occasional ground beef.

Society's modern sense of values is so fucked up it's near a guarantee that hospitals get run out of supplies before a homeless person gets overdosed.
I can already see the media talking about medicinal racism and argue that blacks should get preferencal waiting line for drugs over whitey

I use frozen blueberries as dog treats in the summer. I had a shepherd who went nuts for them a long time ago, back at that time I read an article that said wild canine species scavenge fallen fruit- makes sense to me.

Now cats are the ones that are strict carnivores, with just a spot of greens here and there to self-medicate for the pukes.

Lowes was all out of several kinds of motor oil today, looking pretty patchy in general in the automotive area. Plenty of turkeys in the grocery store but man alive they were expensive. Got a chicken to roast instead.

I live in the Long Island area and of all things what seems to be running low everywhere is cooking stock and broth. No idea where along the supply chain that shit got fucked with but damn near every store seems low on the shit if they aren't out of it entirely.
Make your own. It’s easy. Basically you take a chicken, boil it with some aromatics, pull the meat off the bones to use in whatever meal you want to make or pack that meat up and save for later, then boil it some more to get everything you can out of the bones, then chill it to solidify the schmaltz, skim that off the top and save it because chicken grease is great to cook things in, then strain it, and bag it up and freeze it in 1cup portions. Just pull out a baggie with a cup of broth any time you need it. You can do beef broth the same way. Or if you want to do it the easy way just go to the Mexican food aisle at the grocery store and buy the big jars of chicken or beef boullion powder you can get from there.

Just put a stack of these in your pantry, chicken and beef. They are basically equivalent to store-bought broth once you add water.

Cats are fucking weird. You'd think they're carnivores, but I've had cats that go crazy over sliced bread and all sorts of green vegetables. Like you could feed them a mini-sandwich with sliced chicken, lettuce, cheese, and bread (wouldn't feed him mayo, probably not healthy) and he'd love it. My current cat obsesses over the corn tassels, he goes nuts trying to eat them.

Personally I wouldn't feed cats (or dogs) raw food. Sure, it's what they eat in the wild, and yes, my cat smells raw chicken and tries to eat it out of the trash (when it's fresh), but cats in wild also get all sorts of internal parasites. That's why you cook the stuff. The only exception to this would be something like sashimi-grade fish which has more stringent quality control, and I think there's similar cuts of beef they sell intended to be eaten raw.

I visited an Ikea in a major US metro this week. It was like it had been picked over by locusts, tons of elaborate displays with only about half of the things available to buy. They were down by at least half on bed linens and literally completely out of knives and cutlery. I like to go to Ikeas to walk around and be Swedish and morose, so I've visited a lot of them, and I'm familiar with their normal levels of disorder. This is the only time I've ever seen one this way. It was weird. A friend out on the West coast told me that her local Ikea was similar on her recent visit.

I try to moderate my dooming, because I know how I am. But the mood is weird, right? Like this weird pairing of the normal fake opulence and obsessive consooming with a sense that the well might be about to run dry.

The Ikea wasteland phenomenon's hit their website, too. Keep an eye on their desks and a lot of their office accessories like organizers -- more and more of it is getting flagged as no ship/out of stock for shipping if you actually try to buy it, and never seems to come back into stock. Source -- spent half the year trying to get a particular desk in a certain color that never restocked either at my local non-coastal US West region Ikea, nor for shipping, and watching as more and more models evaporated.

It is worth keeping in mind that some of the Ikea disorder in particular is from masses of people becoming permanently WFH and realizing they'll need office furniture/equipment, a working kitchen since they're not doing lunch out all the time, etc. Hard to figure out how much is the exploded demand and how much is the collapsing lines.

I've been noticing more and more shelves staying bare. Not more running dry, the stores here seem to have plateaued in their empty spaces, but whats notable is them perpetually staying as such. I've got one section I frequent in particular that probably has 30ish feet just barren. Entire brands and products just lost the void, its a bit surreal to see.

Re: Narcan.

This isn't a defense of junkies so much as pointing out something that might not be obvious. If you are put into a medical coma, the odds you'll need methadone or something to wean you off the drugs they use for that are good. Like, really, really good.

So there are some innocent, non-junkies who may suffer if they can't get these types of drugs.

Beyond that... my big concern is that locally I've been seeing the baby food, infant formula, and diaper aisles get really bare. Some of these items (as well as Pediasure and those nutrient shakes for old people) are entirely gone, and have been for over a month.

While I don't personally need any of the above listed items, I hate to think of someone with a newborn that can't get baby formula.

I'll see if I can grab photos next time I'm out. I don't like to shop anywhere near Thanksgiving if I can help it, so I'll be avoiding stores until after Black Friday at the least.

Breast Milk and puree'd veggies are better than formula anyway. Of course then you're relying on veggies that also may or may not be on the shelves.

I just want to take a moment to scream into the internet over how insane overseas shipping rates have gotten now that regular, bog-standard airmail ain't a thing anymore.

An electronic component, just the one I need, at the reasonable price of $17 and oh look FedEx is the only option and shipping is $75 REEEEEEEEE

Goddamn it, China, it's the size of a playing card, just staple it to a carrier pigeon.

this might just be a me thing but the black friday sales seem like dogshit this year. not the 80% deals of yesteryear. lots of crap that isn't worth the cost getting discounted barely fuck all.
It's been like that the last few years now, Cyber monday as well. the discounts are literally just normal stingy as fuck "sales" for overpriced stuff now that puts it down to what the price would normally be without "inflation". Like wooow you marked shit that was 10 dollars up to 15 dollars only to have your yearly 1 time special sale mark it back down to 10? The shit you do all year long anyways? Yeah fuck you.

Seems like a crafty chinaman scalper using shipping as the majority of the price, shit happens a lot. Unless this isn't that in which case why the fuck is the shipping $75?? I keep seeing shit that ships dirt cheap or free from china, especially right now.
