Part of the problem of section 8 is that you often have people who have have no clue how normal people live. It isn't even malicious on their part sometimes. They just don't have a concept about how to actually maintain a place to normal levels of cleanliness. And, if they have a cheap ass landlord -- like I am sure Rhys is -- things will wear out pretty quickly because nothing is properly maintained.

If you aren't going in to inspect every now and then and you aren't bothering to do maintenance or even minor repairs unless the tenants start causing a fuss -- you'll end up with a real mess on your hand. And a lot of tenants won't even tell you about stuff that is busted because they don't want a landlord (or his agent) coming in to the place to see how messy it is (or that they have extra people living there who aren't on the lease or that they have pets they shouldn't have, etc.).

If he's actually relying on this as his primary income right now, that's pretty risky. He's just one major repair away from losing his cushy little profit. Or if one of his tenants leaves and he has to fork over a ton of money to do repairs and clean up for the next one.

To me, this is just another in a long line of Rhys' "get rich quick schemes". Like being a "world champion" was supposed to result in all this brand sponsorship and paid speaking fees. Same with his expertise in Philosophy. His troon activism. His professional poker career. It's all pie in the sky dreams for Rhys. His landlord scheme will fail because the common denominator in all these failed adventures is Rhys. Someone else could have pulled these things off. Rhys never will.
