I know who Dick Swaab is. In that interview you just quoted, he says that the only reliable indicator of transgenderism is self-reporting; ie. there is no test that can determine what a male or female brain looks like, you cannot look at a brain scan and know that a person is transgender. There's also the question of the potential for multiple sources of gender identity, especially as it concerns Non-binary individual and people who don't experience dysphoria. There's also been neuroimaging that shows differences between androphilic and gynephillic trans women, ie. that trans women sexually attracted to other women and trans women sexually attracted to men seem to have different neurophenotypes, and so may have different causes. Given that Gender Identity Disorder occurs at higher rates in certain groups, in particular people with autism, and the wide variety of societal expression of gender (across time and space) in human societies, it is likely that there is some neurobeiological basis for GID, but that it is influenced, perhaps strongly, by social conventions of gender, much in the same way that homosexual behaviour seems to have at least a partial social component to it. But it is categorically wrong to say there is a "male" or "female" brain, or some sort of typical experience you can point to common to one gender.

What isn't ambiguous in the literature is that gender affirmative actions, such as medical procedures, HRT or social acceptance, is good for the mental health and overall outcomes of people experiencing gender dysphoria. There doesn't need to be a strong neurobiological basis to gender identity for that to be true.

This is a little more spergy than I wanted to be, but seriously, I'm pretty familiar with the research out there. You aren't going to scare me with random pubmed citations. I will say that I find people who claim a long-term gender dysphoria going back to childhood a lot more credible than say, Jonathan Yaniv, who I'm 100% sure is using a trans identity as a cover for his pedophilic predatory behaviour. That's the other problem with asserting a broad neurobiological origin for trans identities, it covers up the ways that people are obviously abusing the system. The idea that a trans identity can never be questioned I think is pretty dangerous.
