Dr. Who

I'm pretty certain that river talks about visiting them in the past and asks why he hasnt and he gives a non commital answer, this might be giving the writers too much credit but the doctor could just be lying and seeing that they live a long happy life without him lets them live it. It was a long term story element that the doctor would just come into their lives and fuck it up and that it wasnt really fair on them.
I don't consider being trapped in an infinite timeloop in a run down hotel in NYC constantly getting older even when the timeline resets due to you getting warped back to the start of the loop point a "long happy life" lmao.
EDIT: seriously how the fuck do they even have graves how the hell did they find the body or know their names when they didn't even exist yet? maybe I'm remembering this episode a bit wrong but I'm pretty sure thats like what happened. If they somehow escaped then it shouldn't be an unfixable thing, just move to NJ or something lmao.

Let's face it, guys: the only time that New Who has ever made any sort of sense was during the brief run of the (original) RTD era (and that's ignoring most of Classic Who). Moffat fucked everything up, multiple times, in every single one of his series. It was definitely fun, but it was complete, utter bullshit. Chinballs, on the other hand, had all of the bullshit with none of the fun.

It's made sense to a degree, it's just gotten disappointingly predictable and even more unsubtle after some point in time. Thowever, there WAS the weird bullshit that went on starting sometime during matt smith's run around the plotline where river is revealed to be amy's baby where they clearly cut/omitted shit and added some dumb retcons. no clue if you can still find talk about this but there was a weird fucking thing that went down with one of the episodes, I can't remember if it was the "lets kill hitler" one or something like that but there was one episode where on the initial airing there was a kinda ghostly echo-flashback sound effect thing of the simm master's laugh at the end of an episode hinting at something going on, but on re-airings and the dvd/blu ray releases it's fucking absent. There's also the fucking shit with the cybermen episode where they introduce how they now "upgrade" on the fly or some bullshit and look like an army of iron man mk IIs with lego faces where the initial trailers for the episode but a lot more heavy emphasis on like the cybermen being amusement park attractions and there's a shot of some guy putting on a cyberman costume that's not in the final episode. both these still fucking bug the shit out of me years later. When the episodes came out quite a few people that criticized shit were talking about those but no clue if that's still like widely available knowledge or if it's been memory holed like some mildy popular 4chan memes from over a decade ago I remember have been.

the time loop is that is just that they get sent to the past write the book the doctor gets the book which leads to them being sent back in time, they are not constantly reliving the same time they just live their lives from the point of being sent back normally in the hotel.

The upcoming New Year’s Day special features the Daleks for the third year in a row.
Have they figured out yet all you have to do to get away from them is run up a flight of stairs?

It’s been addressed in the series before.
It's not even the first time it happened, either!

EDIT TO AVOID DOUBLE POST CAUSE I REMEMBERED SOME OTHER SHIT NEW WHO DID A FEW TIMES THAT'S BEEN DONE IN THE ORIGINAL RUN: the Modern show isn't the first time Daleks made from humans existed. The dalek story that Remembrance was a follow-up to did something a lot darker than "oh taking a single cell from dead humans to grow dalek babies" or "putting dalek babies in human corpses and zapping them with lightning to make hybrids"

No, what Classic who did with this concept was "The person who was supposed to be in cryo sleep till his incurable disease can be cured is forcibly pulled OUT of cryosleep, stuffed into a clear dalek casing thing, then blasted with radiation, gene therapy, and mindfucking/reconditioning torture shit slowly turning him into a Dalek while he's begging for death." Considering Davros made the Daleks by doing similarly inhumane experiments on people that were effectively space humans being mutated by elongated nuclear war, it makes sense he'd be able to do the same to normal humans on a space colony hospital/morgue planet.
Can't find the full scene anymore but this upload is as close as I can get to it.
EDITX2: The same channel has the death part of the scene in it, no clue why they didn't just upload the whole scene. there's an entire exchange between these 2 bits.
Body horror shit aside, It's kinda funny how the guy's daughter pulls out what looks like a normal ass gun but it shoots a fucking laser.

RTD's era was fun because it was camp and knew when to reign in the silliness (outside of farting aliens) for pure adventure. Moffat's was slightly less fun and more fairy tale-esque, but could still provide some decent levity to balance out its self-seriousness. Chibnall can't really do either: His attempts at comedy come off as childish and everything else is just bland. He shoots and scripts the show like it's a procedural drama and it's dreadfully dull as a result.

RTD era also didn’t have much in the way of overarching plots, so it’s easier to enjoy the good episodes on their own while pretending the batshit retarded ones didn’t exist.

I really liked "Midnight." It's almost more of a classic Twilight Zone episode than a Who episode, though. I know it's a basic bitch choice, but it's really tight, well put together, and genuinely creepy.

Ya know assuming this bearded clickbait hustler is not just lying again, and this isnt some smugfuck "oh im so sad the evil manbaby nazis could not take my stunning and brave performance so they are now banning women from acting" bullshit from whittaker then.....yeah you should feel fucking bad you untalented fishfrog.

Your "play the doctor as some insufferably obnoxious portland kindergarten teacher with a woke tik tok account and 4 cats" schtick is possibly the single worst way to introduce a female doctor to the audience that could have been done, and vindicated the fears and concerns of even the most autistic and tryhard neckbeards who were saying this shit was a bad idea, despite the fact that the audience would probably have rolled with any halfway decent actress so long as her performance was worth a damn and not just a garbage pail of whatever shit the showrunner and producers thought would appeal to people on twitter and the guardian that week.

I mean....yeah going forwards assuming the show does not die shitting itself to death in the wake of what you and chinballs did to it, then im guessing any vague suggestion of another woman playing the role by the creative team is gonna be met by a whole lot of people in the room thinking "oh fuck no, we cannot afford another whittaker style shitshow" if not openly screaming it at whomever made the suggestion.

Quick question from a 4/10 bong, why is this show so popular stateside? I understand why shit like The Hobbit is successful because it's a mythical stereotype of what you perceive Europe historically to be, but the love Dr Who gets just baffles me.

It's one of those cases where the contrived writing yanks you out of the story because you, the viewer, can trivially solve the problem but know that the problem is behind the camera.
Ah yes the "shut the hell up, everyone" writing technique.

A common trope of hacks. I despise it too.

From what I’ve seen, some of it is people finding David Tennant attractive, and the Tumblr crowd uniting to form Superwholock.

Like “Love And Monsters”.

It appeals to the American desire to have godlike powers and use them in irresponsible heroics while sexy ladies follow us around.

Also I think he was the safe TV boyfriend to a lot of girls at a very special age. You know, the kind that takes you out on dates/adventures and is handsome but never tries to touch your bum or put his tongue in your mouth.

The doctor doesn't have godlike powers though, he's literally just a space-human type alien with a time machine he fucking stole with his grandaughter. At leas the fucking WAS before Chibnall recently retconned him to a god-child orphaned black girl responsible for the timelord regeneration being a thing, shitting on both the lore and the universal appeal of the character as just some fucking guy from some other planet. There were hints of him having a greater social status than just "some guy" before going rogue. several points in the series, both og series and new who bring this up once and a while.

Sure, maybe some fans got into it for the doctor being attractive or whatever but like the shows been generally popular in the states since like the 70s-80s I think? I think the reason it was so popular over here for so long is just the amount of wacky scifi ass shit it'd throw out there. Similar reason shit like Star Trek or Lost in Space got so big.

Sounds like Chibnall basically went full fanfiction when it came to The Doctor. And knowing how DW goes, one can only hope that a cancellation can lead to another 20 year nap that’ll lead to a retcon where that can be deleted from the lore.
