Polygon tried to do a Mother's Basement style "watch order" and as you'd expect, they were rightfully ratioed.

I mean, if you just want to watch part 6 and don't care, you honestly need to watch parts 3 and 4, because otherwise shit will not make sense. Part 3 for all the Dio stuff and introduction to Stands and Part 4 for the Arrow.
No the best way is just to go with Part 1 -> Part 2 -> Part 3 -> Part 4 -> Part 5 -> Part 6

That's pretty much the watch order for anime so you're doing it right.

It's just so many people give weird watch orders that just make things stupid (i.e. The Basement Order which is the worst watch order I've seen for anything ever)
But yes, if you want to do the whole series, its basically 1 -6. I don't know why people treat Jojo like fucking Monotagari which you literally need a wiki for. The events in Jojo are straightforward and don't go back and forth.

It's because normies assume Jojo is like Doctor Who where you can start with any Jojo and ignore the previous shit. That and people who just want to watch it to be trendy or be part of the "hype". Those types of people are also the same that just treat Jojo as "Le Funny Meme Anime with no substance"

Its fucking idiotic, because if you just start with any random part (Maybe with the exception of 3), you'll have no idea what is going on. Especially starting with 6, which is basically the culmination of the entire previous 5. You won't understand shit.

Like that article said to start with Part 3 but it's so dumb. Part 3 builds off of Parts 1 and 2 (with the establishment of Dio's conflict with the Joestars and what his deal is, along with establishing Joseph and the Speedwagon Foundation). Part 6 needs the same since Part 4 establishes how Jotaro is basically doing stuff around the world and Part 5 explains more of the lore with stands as well as showing that DIO would occasionally fuck around to have kids.

There’s literally no excuse for part-skipping when Part 1 and 2 are like 24 episodes total. We’re not talking some Shonen bullshit “oh, it gets good after Episode 150!!!”, it’s literally one fucking season of anime. If you’re reading the manga you can easily finish it in one day.
Yeah Parts 1 and 2 are short. Literally the only other part that is fine to start with, ignoring the knowledge of previous parts is Part 7 due to being in a new continuity, and even then Part 7 has a lot of stuff you won't appreciate until you've experienced the previous parts.

I’ll tell ya why it’s dumb to start with Part 7:

A lot of stuff in Part 7 is best appreciated as a reimagining of what came before, and some stuff (namely, Dio from Another World) are straight up nonsensical without the context.

"Wait, didnt he just defeat the main bad guy? Why the hell is this rando from another dimension getting so much hype?"

Another thing that comes to mind is the moment where Gyro reveals that his true name is Julius Caesar Zeppeli. It works pretty well as a little weird bonding moment between him and Johnny, but to the experienced reader, it basically spells out that the dude is doomed.

That and plus people don’t read the manga version of Jojo, which in my opinion, makes the story a lot more engaging than just having to watch the anime all the way through (on most occasions, that is).

Bruh if they don't like the first 24 episode the entire thing is not for them anyways.

Also part 2 is when it gets real good anyways, so it's even less episodes than 24 you have to watch. It's nearly 3/4 of a season. And I still argue that even if phantom blood is the most meddling part there are still incredibly iconic and influential moments from that era of manga.

Personally I thought the show was good from the get go

I agree that Part 2 is where the identity of the series gets solidified. I hold it in higher regard than most, and still think Joseph vs. Wamuu is one of the best fights in the series.

Part 1 is kinda bland compared to what comes after, and I personally just do not care for Dio as a villain at all. I don’t think it’s bad necessarily, but it’s also just not particularly exciting nor is it particularly representative of what later Jojo is like.

Monogatari only needs a convoluted order if you're trying to watch it in the chronological order which is completely unnecessary. Release order is always the way to go. The only exception is Kizumonogatari and that can go anywhere in the 'first season'

Yeah like for me I got into Part 1 when someone showed me the first two episodes and I pretty much binged the series till I was up to date (Part 3 was the current part being animated at the time), Part 1 is a really good start and I actually liked it. Only weak parts of Part 1 are really the middle with the knights but Johnathon and DIO carry the part.

I would also contend that the original S1 finale should be watched as the last episode of the season. Due to what I assume to be production/budget issues, the last story arc was originally cut short, with its remaining two episodes being released as BD extras and being inserted at the end of the season… after the extremely final-feeling date episode, which is now just randomly and jarringly inserted into the middle of Tsubasa Cat in the official episode order, despite obviously meant to be the finale to season 1.

IMO, the story objectively flows much better by moving the original finale back to the end of the season, and aside from one single inconsequential line of dialogue, there aren’t any continuity errors that arise from doing this.

As a relative newcomer to Jojo (I just finished Battle Tendency) I don't think I would have appreciated Phantom Blood (which unlike you, I actually still really like) as much as I did if it had come after BT. So yeah, I think I agree with you.

Since stone ocean is uncensored on netflix, any hope they might uncensor the other parts? Or should I suck it up and buy the dvd's / look elsewhere on the 7 seas?

Well the only way to watch the other parts is check netflix since they probably have it uncensored since they also have the dub which uses uncensored stuff.

Alright... Jotaro just pulled a fucking Columbo, and right as I was thinking that, he acknowledged that he was pulling a Columbo. I love this show.
Thing that first got me hooked on JoJo back in the day was the OVA's version of the D'Arby fight. It blew my mind how cool it was and how they had to find a way outside of just beating the fuck out of him to win.

Part 3 is not really one of my favorites, but it has lots of great fights and moments, you're in for some good stuff.

I forgot to mention... I know that the names of western musicians have been deeply intertwined with this show since the very beginning... (Robert E. O. Speedwagon, hmmm?) But yeah, I'm deeply enjoying these references as I see them, they're pretty fucking fantastic XD
