Or take class abilities that let you shape areas of safety in the spell, which wizards in the evocation school can do in 5e.

I think it's kind of silly for anyone to think your AOE spells shouldn't have friendly fire. You set off a giant fire explosion in the area and expect your friends to just be comfy chilling there? Do these people also throw grenades then walk through the explosion? Might just be people not used to CRPGs, pretty sure friendly fire has been a thing since Baldur's Gate.
I have indeed, never played any CRPGs with friendly fire on apart from Divinity. I suppose friendly fire makes sense, but it's not something I want to deal with when playing a lengthy RPG. I admit, (when it comes to RPGs) I'm a casual fag who plays most of those games for the story and I don't necessarily want to spend hours trying to figure out the best set of spells, team setup and correct placement to beat certain encounters or grind for hours for XP/crafting/consumables. That's not what I consider fun. And I think that's absolutely fine as I've got nothing to prove to anyone, and because I'm not a streamer who claims to be amazing at everything I touch.

Wings might be more honest about where he is in life and a less severe addict of medical grade copium but he doesn't have the same trappings of (fake) success

Wings lives in a modular trailer home on an empty lot with a municipal hookup in whothefuckcares South Carolina and Phil lives in a large single family duplex home in a gated community that's driving distance from a Metropolitan American City that is a huge tourist draw and reputation boost.

Wings is fat and DSP is an average american (still fat but not obviously obese)

DSP has a thin-ish wife that looks normal until you find out she's white trash that has flunked her way through life.

Most people you meet will make their overall impression based off these superficial assessments and Phil seems like he's on the ball while Wings seems like SSDI White Trash. I'm not saying it's right but it's just the way it is.
Sure , superfically it may look that way but if you paid attetion to any of it you see it's all a lie
That house may be impressive until you realize he bought it without having the money to pay for it, bankrupted himself and was saved only because of the pandemy affecting how the goverment works.

Hell the only reason why he still has the house is the bank unintentionally protecting him by denying him the chance of taking equity from his house

Since Pool of Radiance even. So, waaay back. You know when Phil was fucking hot latina chicks at daycare or whatever

The thing about friendly fire in CRPGs is that CRPGs are generally based on tabletop, and tabletop is generally a game focused on positioning, from getting the enemy to bunch up for AOE, to flanking, to all sorts of other little rules the games really put a focus on positioning. And of course, AOE effects and friendly fire are all part of that. Friendlies in the area you want to nuke? Bad planning, should pull them back. Enemies chasing your party so you can't AOE them? Root them in place with a spell like entangle so they can't move and then drop bombs to your heart's content. Area you're fighting in too tight? Well time to look at a different strategy than just AOE, see what other spell area of effect shapes you might be able to use, or just go single target, the single target spells are in the game for a reason.

Why do I get the feeling that Phil is exaggerating his efforts in order to wring more sympathy from the whales?

Then again, this is Phil we're talking about.

BlackSydePhil is also somehow even more toxic than Phil. Whenever you see Phil unleash an ultratoxic outburst just keep in mind that LTG has those toxic outbursts on an almost daily basis. In the lolcow triumvirate of Phil, LTG and Wangz, Phil is the greediest, LTG is the most toxic and Wings is the most pathetic.
But what about Egoraptor/Arin Hanson? He’s like Phil too. Most annoying, perhaps?

I love how the reason he suddenly lost 20 memberships overnight is so obvious that he literally can't bullshit an excuse for it.
It happened "for some reason". Don't think about it, just give him more money already! It's probably Youtube's fault!
