TGWTG Nostalgia Chick / Lindsay Ellis / TheDudette - aka Hotdogs in face girl

Now that's interesting. The leading theory on the subreddit is that she's moving to Nebula and that does seem the most plausible IMO. She hasn't released a video since October 21, discontinued the $10/mo tier Patreon level, podcast roughly every other week and new one due out today. Nothing on Patreon, Instagram or Twitter.

Okay, my working theory is that she is going to work on content creation with Curiosity Stream (CS). According to her book bio, her MFA had a documentary focus

and the Hobbit Duology was described as a documentary (and her student abortion doc the A-Word as well). Though she describes herself alternately as an Internet comedian, video essayist and writer, she clearly self-identifies as a documentarian. She's been involved with Nebula since it started and her agent Dave Wiskus is one of its founders along with the management organization Standard. Curiosity Stream has had a package partnership with Nebula for a while now where if you buy a sub to CS, you get free access to Nebula too. For those blissfully unaware, CS is a subscription VOD streaming service with tons of documentaries and Nebula is for YouTube producers to get away from Susan's shackles.

In September 2021, CS announced that they had purchased a minority stake (30-40%) in Nebula, solidifying the link between the two streaming services. CS has 20 million subscribers and has Nebula 350K, but CS is making bank with an expectation of $71M in revenue for 2021 according to their Q3 2021 financial report. What nice synergy, for one of Nebula's biggest names to transition (lol) to it's new stakeholder and bring her New Media following to staid legacy media subjects. If correct, it's honestly a win for Lindsay. I could be giving everyone involved way too much credit but the one thing Lindsay loves as much as legitimacy is money and CS has it right now. Or she could sulk and drink herself into a stupor.
Wonder if it’s just Lindsay or any of her Chez Apocalypse cohorts will follow her.

Seems unlikely. The two most likely candidates would seem to be Diamanda Hagan and Kyle Kallgren. The former seems happy enough where she is - a gently-fading minor YouTube celeb who only ever seemed to be in it for a bit of a laugh anyway - and the latter appears to be caught up in a personal breakdown which, one way or another, it's going to take him time to pull out of with any degree of lasting success. Or that's how it seems to me.

Its funny to me how with both Ellis and Philosophy Tube they present themselves as radical progressives (moreso PT since he laughably claims to be a Marxist of sorts) but everything about their recent actions show they are desperately thirsty to find a way into the upper echelons of elite media where being employed by some big corporation with at best half assedly woke politics but more importantly a sense of prestige and elevation over everybody else, especially those grubby peasants on youtube, is their golden ticket as far as they are concerned.

I don't know if Contrapoints is like this too since her output dropped off to an absurd degree.

Honestly, I think Todd In The Shadows would follow her. One Hit Wonderland and Trainwreckords are basically documentary shows anyway, and that’s widely considered to be his best work.

Has anyone noticed she’s calling herself an ex-youtuber on her Twitter? What could that mean exactly?

At face value? That she introduces herself on twitter via something that she doesn't do. Like trying to establish your e-celebrity on insta by making sure everyone knows you don't have a twitch channel.

@Boston Brand A real page-turner. Unputdownable. 5/5.

Most of her intelligent takes she learned at film school (like her essay on Hercules and 3-act structure).

Also wow, Axiom's End 2 has been out for almost two months and no one talks about it. This thread is more active about Lindsay's writing career than her actual simps

Angelina (writing/editing) and Elisa (admin/assistant) are quite probable since they are already dependent on her. Maybe Nella. Todd has been getting a lot of his legal shit sorted out lately with respect to copyright claims against his videos, which makes sense because his largest new sub bump is always with the year end top 10s, so might as well give new people a bigger backlog of content to consume and him more passive ad money for it. He will follow Lindsay wherever he can, though his skills apply more towards research, writing and voice-overs. Very interested to see how this plays out.

ETA: A mention on the "ex-youtuber" thread on Lindsay's subreddit that her PBS series will end soon too

Seems like a bit of a weak excuse, as she's barely making videos, has a podcast maybe 2x monthly and a third book to write. Will have to see if the series ends or Princess Weekes takes over as the sole creative.

And while he won't get a thread for a while, it seems his biggest lolcow quality could be on display. Maybe if this place offers less copyright BS, a move could be tempting. Icarus may be getting ready to fly again!

What ARE her simps up to these days?

She named her main character's love interest in the second book after the guy she's doing podcasts with:story:
I'm having a stroke here

Oh yeah, and she loves Phantom of the Opera, did you all know that???
Did she even read the original book? I know that she flicks it to the musical adaptation and wouldn't shut up about it, but reading the original book seems to be a bit out of lindsay's thing. (Gven that reading a book requires her to put down the bottle for more than ten minutes so that way the words aren't swimming and you aren't puking on the pages), or did she do the usual lazy lindsay thing where she just went on sparknotes and looked up the characters' names?

It hard to believe she's been working on that novel since at least 2014. It felt like something she knocked together as quickly as possible after she got a deal for Axiom's End. If I ever read something like that about someone using my name in a book I'd want to stay far away from them because @elzaw didn't mention that over half of her acknowledgements section is devoted to how much she loves Kaveh.

Just to put a face to the name, this is Lindsay and Kaveh seeing Chicago at the Ambassador theater in NYC.

Kaveh in the book sounds like a bigger self-insert Sue for Lindsay than the main character: Mid-30s, alcoholic, award winning journalist who spergs politics every five minutes and is portrayed as nothing but a tragic hero and victim of racism no one listened to. Which is the biggest problem with this whole thing: Every character sounds like Lindsay Ellis:

This book also starts with experts from declaration of human rights... At least the Cthulhu fanfiction was less pretentious.
