That's the fun part about WV intrapolitics though, as long as Manchin keeps telling Biden to stuff it and holds firm, he'll do better in a legitimate election than any RINOs and a lot of conservatives the state has produced. And the other "viable" nuDems like Ojeda are gone for the time being.
Which brings me to another thought I just had after reading your post - if the rift between Manchin and the establishment dems got that bad that they would support an opponent of his, that probably nixes any support he would give to their voting rights garbage because they would just turn around and utilize it to replace him in his future political ambitions with a (D) stoolie who won't bite the hand next time.

I'll admit Manchin has surprised me. He has more balls than any Republican besides maybe DeSantis, and even Florida man is prone to cuckery from time to time.

The big piece of curiosity to me is that the only real candidate in 2024 is going to be Trump. I don't mean that as in the Democrats won't run anybody, I mean that as in they'll be judged simply by how not-Trump they are. My old professor was born in (and needed to flee from persecution in) the Soviet Union, and he would tell us about how the Soviet Union couldn't define itself by itself. It would rather define itself by being anti-Western, this revealing the weakness of their ideology and identity. If you can't define yourself and what you want save for opposition to some grand opponent, then you're reliant upon their continued existence (in some form or another) to determine who you are. If Trump's ultimately the one who defines the future and whatever form the Democrats will take, what power do they have by themselves? What a terrible existential quandary!

He’d never be re-elected to the Senate or elected to WV Gov or anything else. The Dems are asking Manchin to take one for the team and whatever they’re promising him in return just isn’t as good in Manchin’s eyes as his US Senate seat or the WV Gov’s mansion. That’s your opinion, (one that I share, BTW), and in a perfect world all of our elected representatives would do their jobs and represent our interests. In reality, you and I both know that’s bullshit and never happens.

Manchin isn’t bucking the Dems because of his desire to represent the interest of his constituents. He’s just in a situation where bucking the Dems aligns with his constituents interests. Manchin wants to remain in WV politics. He doesn’t want a job running a “Charity”, or a spot on the Board of some “News” Network, or a Cabinet position in the Biden Admin. He wants to remain a Senator from WV and eventually be WV Gov, and he knows that going along with Biden eliminates any possibility of that happening. Hell, as much trouble as he’s caused them, I’m sure the Dems don’t want him re-elected, and would prefer a RINO that could be counted on by them. Another Senator Romney, basically. If Manchin ends up running for WV Gov, I figure that’s exactly what WV will get.
