Plagued Consoomers / Consoomer Culture - Because if it has a recogniseable brand on it, I’d buy it!

Has this been shared here yet?
This is the exclusive welcome video you get if you booked a stay at the godawful Disney Wars hotel.

Its about as cheap looking as you can expect, but totally worth $10k amiright fellow Disneyphiles?

Iphones instead of props, backdrops you'd expect at some movie editor store in a mall, shitty gimmick poker as the only source of entertainment, and they even gave the alien girl the wrong skin color so you know they're really dedicated to their authentic LARP bullshit at least!
View attachment 2806483
But its not Disney's fault though. Fans are just toxic bigots!

This is your brain on consoomerism.

Reservations are being cancelled at a rapid pace but I'm still expecting plenty of shill videos bragging about wasting $20k to "enjoy" this shitty experience twice.

Angry Joe also made a video shitting on the Star Wars Hotel: https://youtu.be/fziQymmdmFU

It's not much more than a reaction video, but at the very least he does show a huge amount of other videos on Youtube also shitting on it, it seems that Disney have pushed their luck a little too far with this 'hotel experience' and under-delivered.

Also, that promo video is shit, it looks so cheap! :story:

Earthbound is a good game, a very good game as a matter of fact. But it's one of those IPs kind of like Star Wars or Ghostbusters where many people seem to be more in love with the idea of it than with the thing itself, they like it because it's popularly accepted to be "good" without ever coming to their own conclusion on it. What's the old joke again? "World's biggest Earthbound fan ecstatic to be able to finally actually play the game."
I know. I'm just pointing out how ironic it is, using a game about childhood and parental love to whore out your newborn for internet up-cummies.

Yeah, even some of Disney's biggest youtube simps are calling out this hotel as a mess.

When even EckhartsLadder, the guy who kept forgiving Disney's bullshit time and time again and said he was happy with Disney stealing his content and that he wanted to work for them for free, is also saying this hotel is a disaster without even the slightest hint of apologism, you know you fucked up.

I wonder if people like this realize that all the actual data encoded on those precious Amiibo figures has been ripped and posted online, and that you can buy bags of blank NFC tags for like $10 for 50 on Amazon and program them with your phone with a free app. You don't end up with the physical figures, but you do end up with a complete collection of tags for all known Amiibos for use with whatever games you want for under $50.

I bet it really pisses off people like that.

Yeah, people like this!
I guarantee you the people who are buying all the amiibos are not doing it because they want to use them in-game.

Imagine setting up a Star Wars Experience and not having the lady in the promo being a scantily dressed Tw'ilek.

Fucking Clowns.

Say what you want about Earthbound guy..he is at least playing the game. I am largely convinced that 90% of video game Consoomers don't actually play a thing.

Exactly, the people we make fun of in this thread are not the people who actually play the games, but for the people who hoard them and pretend to play them. It's just like those book spergs who buy books to decorate their shelves to sound intelligent, with these gamers, they are just buying stuff to prove their "nerd cred" rather than basing it on anything else like actual love for the series or how many hours you poured into a game or a show. Then there are some people who only like things because "nerds" are supposed to like them and again, they got to gain "geek points" for that.

Fashion man, a story in three parts.
Posting this less about him than to highlight how his audience clearly struggles with the difference between dropping $500 on Shien vs. buying secondhand, as well as the same discussion we've been having in this thread re: "Where is the line?"

Wait, what is Shein? Is this another MLM scheme like those leggings?
I can't keep up with the trash fashion world. I remember seeing the strawberry dress and that awful holographic plastic tutu dress, but everything else is new. Are these brands just exclusive to marketing to retards on tiktok or something?

Anything that is not produced as a "collectible" item in a Chinese sweat shop.

❌ Plastic toy dolls
❌ Beanie babies
❌ Starbucks cups

✅ Stamps
✅ Numismatic coins
✅ Vinyl records (if you listen to them)
I disagree.
Consooming is an attitude not so much what you own.
I see no real issue with someone if they own stuff, rather its the attitude where its completely overtaken someone where someone becomes a consoomer.

A lot of things can be called plastic rubbish if you take away any sentimental value you have for them.

Someone mentioned about their father still having his old toys somewhere previously in this thread.
So my guess is to have it evenly distributed around the house and not to have it one entire room without you know, having it stick out like a sore thumb.

Like @Vingle mentioned, it's fast fashion. Previously fast fashion was in stores, but now you can buy your cheap plastic clothes from China online.

So I want to ask what are good examples of collections or something.
What's a shrine and what isn't
"Shrine" might be a misnomer in some cases, because the origin "thing" has a generally standardized format.
For ofrendas, alters, home shrines, etc. you usually have:
  • A focus item (e.g. a portrait of the departed, an icon of a deity, a statue, a mortuary tablet)
  • Complementary items (e.g. a prayer wheel, bible, favorite item belonging to the dead)
  • Decorative items (e.g. marigolds for an ofrenda, incense)
  • Activity items (e.g. offerings of food, a candle to light)
Here's a Catholic home shrine for reference:

And here's a couple waifu shrines:
miku.PNG
gross.PNG

And now, for contrast, behold a couple of Funko walls:
And this collection:

Are either shrines or collections better than the other?
I don't think so. I think they're just different and both are equally capable of becoming consumerist nightmares.

Yeah as I said, its down to the attitude.
Its easy to look at these pictures and go "consoomer" but some of these people may be alright and function as normal humans.
We don't know these people IRL so we often have to assume things. I'm not one for assuming.

One example is one of my old friends relatives. She had a cabinet of die cast cars in the living room.
She was a functioning human being.
The important thing here is that consoomers are a very small minority of people. Most people do the same things they do, but its the attitude that makes them consoomers.

I've noticed that people who complain about "consumerism" often have something they consoom too.
Like, Morgoths Review goes on about it then talks about warhammer 40k or game of thrones, comparing it to the state of the west.
(On the "comparing fictional media to reality" thing, I'm fine with it if kept in moderation, don't sperg everything IRL to fictional media)
Anti consoomer reddit was anti consoomer to one thing but fine with consooming guns.

The hard fact is we are all consoomers in one way or the other.
Some people may feel shame towards one thing but some may be fine with it.
Consoomers are hard to identify because its subjective on what makes a consoomer.

Its not the products, rather the people IMO.
The same way lolcows are subjective based on peoples tastes.

"Lot's of Shieeeen, Amazooon.. I think that's most of what it is."

Who buys their clothes from Amazon? I swear Amazon is literally becoming the Buy Now option of eBay, but with more fake 5 star reviews. And wow, that "leather jacket" she pulled out looked fake as all hell. All of those clothes look terrible.
Say what you will about brick and mortar stores, but the clothes at places like The Gap and American Eagle, etc. Last a long time if you treat them well. Even sports store clothing lasts a hell of a long time. Those Shien clothes look good for about 4 washes before they start fraying or stretching out.

Ha ha, you think they'll be worn more than once.

Don't know if this has been brought up yet but the car enthusiast culture can be pretty consoom at times. The truck enthusiast subculture, doubly so. Lots of brand fanatics who buy the same vehicle every few years on a lease or a loan only to trade it in for another one as soon as the lease/loan is up. Feuds between different brands can get very heated, which is amusing because all the complaints are basically the same.

You like Ford? "Their engines and trannies are shit and they rust".

You like Chevy? "Their engines and trannies are shit and they rust".

You like Dodge? "They do the same thing but with a worse interior".

You like Toyota? "They're totally unkillable, bro, just don't look at the owner forums complaining about engine problems and rust"

And in most of these cases the mechanical problems stem from/are aggravated by the thousands of dollars of retarded modifications like lift kits and turbo upgrades that the vehicle wasn't designed for. And 90% of the people that own these trucks drive them just because "its cool" and have no purpose for them besides commuting. Which in and of itself is fair, and I would respect that if they just admitted it, because trucks do look cool and can be legitimately fun to drive.

But they insist its purely utilitarian and they totally need their 50,000 dollar lifted 4x4 princess wagon with 10k in mods that they will trade in for another one every 3 years, just to get to their office job when it snows twice a year. Speaking from personal experience, in some more rural areas, there is also a social component, i.e. if you don't have a truck or interest in trucks, you're not a "real man". Basically people will judge you behind your back (partially) on what type of vehicle you like.

TLDR: The amount of money involved, combined with the blind brand loyalty, combined with the frequent exaggerated justification for ownership, combined (in some select geographical regions) with social posturing, is what makes truck culture consoom in my eyes.

13 years ago, videos liked this seemed harmless.

Fast forward to today, it’s turned into a competition.
13 years ago these people were treated as oddities, even the tone of the narration is somewhat derisive and passive agressive, now these types are celebrated and pushed by algorithms to represent the ideal and what advertisers believe should be the default consumer for any brand.

Corporations have taken for granted that with enough exposure and validation the minority odd case can be normalized and multiplied, now the number of whales is increased so high the base consumer (a.k.a functional person who likes a thing) matter less than those who would by everything of anything a brand puts out, couple the consoomers with the expanding market from underdeveloped countries where people have no standards whatsoever and the result is just mediocrity products with increased revenue incentivizing more mediocrity for the future.
