Which is so stupid because Ethan didn't build his brand/image on being a political guy. He did some SJW riffing for sure but h3h3 was never meant to be a political channel. He built it on sketch comedy and reaction videos not politics. You can look back to as recent as his reaction to the 2016 election where he tweeted "Congrats to everyone who supported Trump. I voted for Hillary but this is a democracy and I respect the process. He achieved the impossible."

Here's the real question: was Ethan a racist sperg before the Summer of Floyd? Because I've noticed a lot of internet famous people suddenly experiencing a massive personality change into this strange mixture of establishmentarianist, corporatist, anti-white racist, and pretend communist right around then. It's such a sudden switch that it almost feels like they're being paid to do it

I haven't watched or paid attention to him for years, but if that's what happened, it certainly does validate my own personal conspiracy theory. Or as I like to call it, conspiracy fact.

EDIT: Did my own research. Yes, this is pretty much exactly what happened, as far as I can tell. Before the beginning of the Floydless Era, he was just a sniveling, weak willed coward trying to drum up fake controversy by being an asshole to everyone. Chauvin takes a knee, and suddenly Ethan is worried about black people being killed at a rate of one million per second by Amerikkka's white supremacist roots.

Really makes you think.

I used to watch the podcast up until about March/April 2020, when he seemed to become an early convert to covid hysteria and whining about muh anti-maskers etc. I kind of drifted away from his content after that as he seemed to be running out of shit to talk about in general with lockdowns in full swing. A few months later I took a peek back at his channel and it was as if the whole mood changed.

I reckon it's a mixture of things that caused his shift:

• From what I recall his numbers were suffering pre-2020 and he probably reckoned he needed to hop on some new bandwagons to gain a bigger audience. Thus the shift into more shameless, trashy content and associating with the terminally-online progressive hivemind
• Though he wasn't properly on the "anti-SJW" bandwagon before, he was certainly adjacent to that crowd and I remember as recently as 2018 seeing people in his comments sections somehow implying he was a Trump supporter or alt-right. Like Fantano I think he's made a harsh leftwards turn since then out of terror at the thought of getting cancelled
• General mental decline of spending years as an internet celebrity and hanging around with the same group of people spouting the same internet-friendly opinions

Been quite sad seeing what's happened to him the past couple years because, while I was never his biggest fan, I used to listen to his pod pretty frequently and thoroughly enjoyed his retarded form of comedy when it was less political.

Maybe it's just me, but I really don't think Ethan's political shift was motivated out of seeking a more profitable audience. He (along with the rest of the redditors) was a casual Bernie supporter in 2016. Where have the casual Bernie supporters ended up since? Fueled by a creeping desire of political activism, delusions of superintelligence and edgy socialism, they've taken a hard swerve left.

Race is a great place to start. Casual Bernie fans in 2016 were more likely to say "class is the dividing issue, race is meaningless." Now, they're some of the most pro-reparations groups out there. I have no doubt that Ethan feels not only worried about people associating his "digital blackface dumb lul" take with alt-rightism, but also guilty that he committed some kind of moral wrong. Nobody can imagine Ethan saying, "If only that dot on her head was an off switch" in 2021.

I've said it before, Ethan is just a redditor. Hard left, edgy atheist, angry at the establishment, thinks he's a genius, acts cynical but is entertained by the simplest garbage (remember when he tried doing unironic subreddit reviews?). I unsubscribed from all H3 related channels I had been subbed to over a year ago, which hurt for a minute because I remember the good days of 2015/16. Those were also high school days for me so it felt strange.

Yet I still get reccomended this podcast shit. Every time I do, I get my harmless jollies by reporting the videos for sexual content or harassment. My bleak hope is that one day that YT's pristine algorithm will have another epic malfunction where the video gets taken down by a bot.

I had to make an account for this. Long-time lurker. I'm a retard. But I agree with you to a large degree.

I've seen every single episode of the H3 podcast. Yes, even the most recent one. It's been almost like a comfort show for me as there are not a lot of other podcasts that produces regular content that I've been following for years and which I can listen to in my car while driving to work.

I definitely noticed a shift around the start of the covid era too. While I don't mind people whining about masks and shit, it's just a low blow to start calling anyone who isn't taking the vaccine white trash and then go out of your way to mock how low class they are, especially when you then start whining how late stage capitalism has ruined everything and how classist society is. It's so hypocritical.

I absolutely skipped over their "Jan 6 DAE Trump bad??" podcast and I saw the rise and fall of Frenemies and how they replaced it with a political podcast with Hasan. Granted, I was so glad when they would take the politics away from the actual show because it's not something I give a fuck about. But I wasn't prepared how mentally ill their community has gotten and how many absolute Hasan-absolutists they've created. Like these same people start messaging you calling you a racist or fascist because you disagree with Hasan and it's the most pathetic bullshit I've ever seen. And then have the audacity to claim you don't know shit about your own country while they lecture you about how capitalism has failed and you are essentially a slave owner because of one reason or another. I'm not kidding, the subreddit is usually where they get all their content from and I'm baffled Reddit hasn't banned it after all the personal info posting, the racism and targeted harassment it has going on.

Especially this last fucking fiasco with Hasan being banned has shown how much of a racist they are. Especially on their subreddit, it's like the epitome of stupidity. I've seen people say simply "Racism is bad" and they're getting downvoted and called crackers and mayo monkeys on and then told to kill themselves or, as the worst I saw, threatened to have their info posted. Even if they wouldn't be Americans and have experienced oppression themselves. The insane people on the subreddit even have started going through people's post history and saying politicalcompassmemes is fascist and if you've ever posted there you're a fascist. On a damn meme subreddit. Most of these people are Hasan/Trisha folks too and several of them have posted on there openly on how they want to "remove" all republicans or conservatives from the sub and will go out of their way to make them uncomfortable and unwelcome there. Absolutely insane pinnacle of acceptance.

I'm honestly gonna say it, he's one of the biggest political hypocrites I've ever listened to. While I enjoy the non-political segments and still listen to it, his takes are so out of touch and stupid it's insane. He was genuinely surprised someone was working a full-time job as a teenager using uber to go to their job while studying to support their family and wouldn't back down until the poor girl called in to defend herself and he still questioned her about it. It's baffling to me. Zero critical thinking skills and always accusing others of being greedy while he himself pockets the money from people donating endlessly to the podcast.

Oh and if this wasn't mentioned here already: One one of the Off The Rails Ethan mentions he shat himself. It was not long after he made fun of The Quartering shitting himself in the store. "It was just a shart" and everyone in the crew is laughing.
