Basically, they have a big water shed they were wanting to use as a bank; when there's plenty of rain and the aquifer is filled, you save up water and hold it for when there's a dry spell. This is how the Edward's Aquifer is treated.

Biden has directed the BLM to shut down the pipeline that would have brought that water to Californians. They've cut the water ration for farmers to 0% (this has never been done until now, btw), so say goodbye to your pistachios.

It's like they've missed the window on when mandates would have been supported, and it's only going to get harder now.

I guess they could say, "We don't want our workers being hospitalized and Disrupting The Economy By Getting Sick," but jeez, that's lame.

Wantonly building massive farms of intensive water-thirsty cash crops on top of the groundwater reserves needed to supply massive cities of millions of people was always unsustainable. Especially since Californians are uneducated and know nothing about how to replenish desertified former sources of water or how to actually help the environment. Most people who are primary concerned about the environment are batshit crazy, sure, but a few of them have good ideas with real benefits. California and the federal government ought to listen to them.

Californians (and the people over in Las Vegas, and Arizona, etc.) will only realize the monumental degree to which they have fucked up when they're being placed on water rations and their lawn has turned into sand.

You know when you have an argument with someone, and then an hour/day or whatever after the argument ends, you come up with something that you wish you had said? I think it's that. The problem is that, while they have the means to immediate restart the conversation that they think they could have done better, they can't actually do it better. I believe tha man would get a better hearing if they made persuasive arguments with a degree of humility that they might not know everything and that people's concerns are reasonable. Our institutions' overall approval ratings were high at the start of the pandemic. Pissing away that trust has given them no option other than force to get what they want, and that is what people are resisting.

As it is, if they can push something without bothering to make a good case, then it's tyranny and will happen in every other avenue of public life. Might as well pick a spot to stand your ground. It's not just contrarianness, it's observing their behavior and deciding they're bullies. I am vaccinated but despise them and will help make the case that the unvaccinated don't need to be if they don't want to.
