Let's pretend for one moment that he does die before the election, just for the funsies. What happens then? Will the nomination revert to option number 2, aka Bernie Sanders? Or will his running mate automatically replace him just the way Vice-President is supposted to step in after the Big Man in the White House chokes on a piece of matzo? Does he even have a running mate yet?

A lot of places that formerly paid minimum wage and are now offering $20+ are doing a bait and switch. It is really only the $20 an hour for the first 40hrs of employment or whatever then back down to minimum wage. Sort of like a sign on bonus.

Obviously not all places are doing that. But there is a lot of weird shenanigans like that and other things going on with all the "labor shortage" right now.

Myself I've applied for jobs and never gotten a response only to see the job still advertised weeks later. Maybe I'm just a shitty applicant and they just dont want me, IDK what's going on.
"Up to" $15 a hour is the common bullshit i'm seeing around my parts for the low end. They are advertising the time and a half rate and that magical "up to" means its not false advertising.

One of the greater joys is seeing people work their first two weeks, see that god awful pay rate, and just about threaten to burn their now former employer down as they storm out the door.

What I found among this heavily white, mostly college-educated set was not so much anger as ennui. When I asked co-op members how they thought Biden was doing, the most common response was a sigh and a one-word “Fine” that sounded more exasperated than enthusiastic. “He’s up against a lot,” Jennifer Percival, a 42-year-old speech pathologist, told me. “We’re just trying to hang in there with him.”

Fucking dire. If the economy takes a massive shit, these people who are just putting up with Biden's shit because "they're on the same team" will leave in droves similar to Dubya managed for Obama in 2008.

Keep in mind, these are the rich motherfuckers with $1.5 million homes in NYC and they are starting to feel it. Imagine the working class in the Rust Belt.

The good news for Biden, Miringoff said, is that although his poor polling is due in part to a drop-off among Democrats, they are the easiest voters for him to win back. That was apparent from my interviews with Democrats in Brooklyn, who clearly were rooting for Biden to succeed even if they weren’t quite sure what more he could do. “I wish he could twist the arms of Manchin and [Senator Kyrsten] Sinema—or break them, maybe,” Gross, the retired psychiatrist, suggested, referencing the Senate Democratic holdouts on Biden’s Build Back Better bill.
Hilarious, desperate cope.

We are in partisan times. If you do not have consolidation of your party, you definitely do NOT have support of the independents in the middle and are making no in roads with the other side. Ergo, you lose because you have a weak base and a low ceiling to max out possible votes.

This pollster is saying Biden is at the low 80's in his own party. That is horrible, especially seeing how Trump has 95%+ approval on his partisan edge for comparison.

If you look at Civiqs now, his approval by state is so dire, fucking California is at 45% approval 45% disapproval. And there are millions more Democrats than Reps in California. He is at almost at 2/3 disapprove of his presidency nationally.

If the economy sinks further, you will see a biblical collapse of approval, which might actually happen now due to BBB being killed.

And the best part is 13 people agreed with him.
Biden's approval numbers are the best they've been in months! He's at, uh, 44% instead of 42%! Major gains!

It is a well-known truth in all trading markets that something can't just go down or up relentlessly. There has to be periods where the trend is temporarily bucked, i.e. you see a dead cat bounce preceeding a market crash or a small downturn as a stock continues to grow in value. I believe something similar is happening to Biden.

Trump did want to get the coal mines back up and running, IIRC, which would have really helped a lot with the state's conditions, but...
Considering that Germany now relies on colluding Russian gas and building coal mines to get off their colluding gas addiction, WV might get coal plants open after the massive failure of Green Energy.

Oh, but don't you know? According to 538, he's back in the high 40's!

Indeed, what 538 says must surely be right. My prediction for Biden's future approval ratings:

Anyone ever wonder if Brandon was lucid for more than say...ten seconds, if he'd be mortified to hear what he's allegedly done?
Like, there has GOT to be at least one or two promises and policies he'd be dead set against if he had two brain cells to rub together. Like--imagine him finding out he's basically a meat puppet for the deep state. Think he'd care?

Fuck DOCTORRRR (by the way--did you know she's actually a DOCTORRRRR) Jill.

Of course, as much as I hate ol' Hells-up, I'd pay to see her use the good DOCTORRRRR as a melee weapon against the squad.

Omicron, however, is a whole different beast, and it's quickly becoming the dominant one. (You can still get Delta, though! Life sucks!) That is slicing through vaccination protection like a hot knife through butter. Don't take my word for it, look at the comments from the infected Senators - how much it helps is debatable, but it being more than capable of infecting vaccinated people, even with the boosters, should likewise be undebatable. And the scary thing is, it isn't. It's hard to even talk about this almost anywhere on the Internet without being labeled a lunatic. Sometimes, discussing things in this thread frustrates me. But there hasn't been a moment here that's been outright frightening in its disingenuity.
Omicron is truly frightening. It's as contagious as the common cold, and what's worse, it appears to be about as severe as a cold, as well, which means potentially billions of people will get it and not feel any need to get a vaccine, since it didn't do anything particularly bad to them.

Kind of like a novel disease becoming endemic and lessening in severity over time was the only real way we were ever going to 'beat' covid, really.

WV could also do hydro power batteries. They have the terrain and the water to do it, just need the starting funds/infrastructure.

Our defense industry is becoming downright Soviet in its inability to deliver.

Fun little fact: Fedgov has larded up defense contractors with so many political rules over the years that to a great extent, they just serve as hiring agencies for sub-contractors. So often, it's more like Congress is paying Lockmart and GD to figure out how to spend money on defense than to actually do stuff.

Yup. People can gripe about Israel as they like, but they made a goddamn point defense AMS for armored vehicles that actually works, and works well. Literally all someone in the US would have to do is write a check and we could license build them here. But no, Raytheon spent...fuck I don't know how long trying to fumble some boondoggle into working, some bullshit that uses downward firing water jets to push RPGs to the ground when they're about to impact. It's the craziest most useless garbage I have ever seen, and I had family who worked in the defense industry tell me all kinds of wild stories. So for almost 30 years, APS has been a thing for armored vehicles, the US doesn't have it, and there's a ton of patriotic young flesh that got burned alive in Strykers and Bradleys and the occasional rare M1. But hey, Raytheon will have another demo unit that can maybe knock a nerf rocket version of an RPG down in FY2024!

And meanwhile the Army quietly ordered a brigade's worth of APS systems from Israel and fitted them to M1s.

Coal is in a mini-boom right now. My County in KY, just across the line from WV has about 200 coal jobs up from ~50 last year. course thats nothing compared to ~10,000 like in the past but its a start. alot of people will drive hundreds of miles into WV TN or VA for a mining job and come back on weekends.

But muh fishes! Environmentalists hate dams too.
I live where the dams are VERY necessary for flood control, and they still want to rip them out in order to promote species of salmon that never even lived here. The fucking local Indians even have an entire mythology about WHY the salmon never come up this far.

Plus just look at the pollsters RCP cherry picked just to get him to 44%, they are all regarded as the worst pollsters in the business.

IIRC, the Israeli Trophy system launches a small warhead in the direction of the incoming missile that basically shotguns a small cone of EFPs at an incoming missile, which works pretty well, with the main concern being collateral damage to nearby friendly infantry. The Soviets tested a much cruder, earlier version of the concept during their own adventure in Afghanistan that was good at taking out both incoming RPGs and entire squads of their own motor-rifle troops so they ended up shelving it, but the tech has come pretty far since 1978. The Raytheon system promised to eliminate collateral damage entirely by shooting a mini-missile that directly intercepts the incoming missile which is exactly as expensive and complicated as it sounds, and they've been working on the damn thing for almost 15 years without much to show for it until the Army just went ahead and bought the Israeli system this year.
