Let's pretend for one moment that he does die before the election, just for the funsies. What happens then? Will the nomination revert to option number 2, aka Bernie Sanders? Or will his running mate automatically replace him just the way Vice-President is supposted to step in after the Big Man in the White House chokes on a piece of matzo? Does he even have a running mate yet?

You want more pressure? If these are the types of people Biden surrounds himself with, it's no wonder Manchin stormed out of negotiations.
That has been their MO the entire time. If they don't get the results they want, they just double and triple down on the screaming and shaming. They have no issue with forcing you to comply. You don't want the vaccine? NYC, Boston, and LA will literally ban you from society until you comply.

@Oxous, reply bug.

Just more and more evidence of my pet theory that they pushed too hard on him to begin with, now they are scrambling to find a solution and just doubling down. This could prove... well, I'd say apocalyptic for the Dems. But really, when you have multiple things that each -individually- are apocalyptic, what does that create?

so Biden surrounds himself with people who think he sould put more pressure on Manchin? Do they relaize the state Manchin is in that his voter turnout will be larger for his re election than before just because he continues to say no to Biden?
The thing about impotent fury is that it's not rational. How could it be? It's your lizard brain screaming to try to convince you that you have some sort of strength in a hopeless situation. In their mind, they just need some brave someone to grab Manchin by the scruff of his neck and make him comply. But there is no brave someone, because that action wouldn't take bravery. It would take an incredible amount of stupidity.

The Biden administration!

Yes, for the most part, because they’re afraid of what happens if they don’t get BBB passed before midterms. If they don’t pass BBB before midterms, then there’s no chance of passing VRA or anything else before then. After midterms there’s no chance of getting anything passed before election ‘24 because there won’t be enough RINOs in the incoming GOP House/Senate to be able to help them get anything through. That results in them heading into Election ‘24 with their only legislative accomplishment being the Infrastructure Bill that was separated from BBB and severely cut back in order to gain passage. That spells disaster for them, so if brute force is what it takes then they’re all for it. If they could get Manchin in a room and beat a vote out of him, they would. They can’t, and that’s what’s got them so agitated.

They’re not thinking that far ahead. Manchin could drop dead for all they care, (they might actually prefer it if they could get a RINO replacement in there willing to play ball).

Manchin's approval rating in West Virginia is more than double that of the average Democratic senator nationwide. He has no reason whatsoever to comply with anything he doesn't want.
So it's moronic for Biden and his allies to keep trying to pressure Manchin. But their retards who can't leave their bubbles. As we saw with Jill Biden when she freak out when people booed at her.

No, they do not want a RINO. Manchin still mostly votes with them on the small things, a RINO will not. Additionally, it's easier to get him on board than the RINOs.

Manchin gives them everything a RINO would, and more. That's kind of the problem. If the RINOs would be better for them, they'd already have gotten them on board and Manchin would be irrelevant.

They don’t know any other way. There IS no way for them to get what they want out of Manchin through negotiation because they have nothing Manchin wants in return. Instead of accepting reality, and dealing with the consequences, they just want to try and brute-force it, and can’t understand when they’re told that it won’t work.

I guess you’re right because if all they needed was a RINO or two there are already plenty in the Senate, and none have stepped up to the plate. All they’d need is 2.

They could offer to ease restrictions on coal mining/processing which would enormously bolster West Virginia's economy. This won't work however for the following reasons.

- Manchin is smart enough to realize they'd backstab him and reenable the restrictions as soon as BBB passed.
- The climate change cult has almost complete control of the DNC and would never allow it.

Well, that’s just it. Any other move is impossible for them for various reasons. They’re at Checkmate, don’t want to concede that point, yet are unable to flip the board because they’ve got their hands tied. I’m sure it’s frustrating for them.

They won't get any. RINOs are actually fairly predictable, as they are in it for personal gain over anything else. They will aim towards legislation that:

1: Provides them personal benefits;
2: Will not cost them electorally;
3: Will not substantially change the status quo.

Any legislation that covers all three, and it -has- to be all three, will get RINO support.

The reason this will never, ever get RINO support is that it violates the hell out of 3 and also very, very likely 2.

@chiobu It is always interesting seeing the other side hit on the same notes I do from my own position. And it points out the very real discontent that is the reason "Vote Blue No Matter Who" is absolute bullshit.

People can simply choose not to vote. And the Democrats don't have some magical, mythical immunity to the same pressures that had reduced Republican turnout in prior elections.

The Bush and Obama administrations broke me of my "Vote Red Unless I'm Dead" mentality. First, in 2008, I had to acknowledge that the Bush administration did hardly anything I cared about and betrayed a lot of things I did care about. Eight years of Obama showed me that even a pack of truly malicious liberals is not going to stop the sun from rising at dawn. This is not to downplay anything Obama did, just that treating every election as a crisis event where either our guy wins or AMERICA DIES is a load of crap. The fact is that the only way the Republican Party can change is if personnel change, and personnel won't change the way they need to if guys like Mitt Romney and John McCain get handed electoral victories.

If you lean left, and you don't have a TV-melted brain convinced that Hilldawg would have girlbossed COVID-19 into oblivion, that protesters illegally entering a government building is an "insurrection" if they're not wearing black bloc and carrying Molotovs, or that Hunter Biden is a financial, legal, and artistic Renaissance Man unparalleled in history, it's hard to deny that America is still around after 4 years of Trump. Hard to deny a lot of liberal priorities are still in place. Social Security didn't go anywhere, labor unions are still around, and Jim Crow isn't back. Hard to ignore a mountain of corruption in your own party. Hard to ignore that your own media outlets and party were trying to start a war in Syria. Hard to ignore that "liberal" immigration policy is suspiciously endorsed by every billionaire and Fortune 100 corporation in the country. Hard to ignore that the current administration is headed by a doddering old fool and staffed by tone-deaf incompetents. I can see how it would be hard to give a shit.

I didn't give a shit in 2008 or 2012. I can easily go back to not giving a shit in 2024.
